Really?  I thought you quit when you stopped working on that one Matrix map.

The patch such and such ago removed the player 141, which I needed it to do some things in the map. Matrix was discontinued, but I still got more coming wink.gif

They stay because of it's legacy, and promise of continuation.  Well it's legacy is fine and all, you can play melee every now and then or enjoy the average UMS bound/defense/madness trio of maps... but it alone is just that: a legacy.  It'll stay as it is.  SC as is has no future.

As for continuation, in the SEVEN BLOODY YEARS we have been waiting, name one thing that's come closer than EUDs?  Project Revolution is a joke.  They're never going to finish it (I'll be happy if I'm wrong, though.)  SC2 is a joke.  I don't doubt it's coming out, but it won't be any time soon either.  They'll have to wait AT LEAST for Ghost, and then milk it for awhile to get anticipation, then they'll work their way up to SC2 from there.  It's predictable.
When we finally get there, let me know.  Meanwhile, I'm going to release Rush soon, then go on to doing something else.  Sorry, I like SC, but this treatment by Blizzard is more than I can bare.

lets see, blizzard patches this because they had a map that used EUDs to execute code and you complain? I dont get you.

Wait, did they actually have a map that executed code? Because as far as I can remember, they never gave us a reason. confused.gif

So it becomes clear that I will have no answers. I would propose we continue, and find new ways to bend the rules of starcraft, but...

I made this website intending it for safe and fun map making, not going to the extremes such as this.
So we'll just throw "Pushing Starcraft Maps to the Limit" right out the window.

As I said before it's obvious all Blizzard wants to do is ruin Starcraft and kill our fun, duh. closedeyes.gif

Wassup Guys? I dont really care that you removed the program. If i had more time and was interested more in the game i would have tried it. At least the mods here have it and they can know alot more how to use it. They will make greater things that we couldnt possiblly imagine. sorry.gif -sorry

Is that true? Because I heard from several other sources it was impossible to do that. Except through Heim's "hack".

I do now retract my opinion a bit on Blizzard's decision, though I think they could have handled it better.

They could have patched it to cut off the memory access range of EUDs to not access SC's code instead of removing it altogether. Or about a dozen other reasonable compromises I could think of, which I won't list here. Or at the VERY LEAST they could have forewarned us they were going to do this, so we didn't get all built up and release bunches of programs, tutorials, references, and maps that would all get trashed with the patch.

But meh. My disappointment is trivial in the long run. I know what I would have done better, but I'm not Blizzard.

Actually I tried to contact them when all the EUD stuff started. Heres the emails:

Subject: Extended Triggers

Hello,

I am the founder and webmaster of the website Staredit Network
(http://www.staredit.net)

As you are aware, several map makers have found a glitch that allows
individuals to edit specific game memory locations. Our community has
only explored this for personal enjoyment and creative purposes.

Of course, there is a concern of possible vulnerabilities for viruses or
hacking through this new discovery, but thus far, the individuals
exploring this technique are convinced it's not possible. I understand
Blizzard is looking into the matter as well.

I ask if there is any decisions to or not to patch this, or any other
useful information to the situation, that I could be notified via this
email address to alert the community. Many map makers wish to know this
information.

Thank you,

Mike Lat

Emails blanked out, along with the Blizzard representative.

Which is exactly what disappoints me about this matter. They simply won't say anything, yet have no qualms about squashing practically a whole community's hopes on a whim. Whatever they might say to back their reasons, I find that just plain rude.

I was referring to uBeR@TiOn 2.0.0.8. Now that LW removed EAS's, too, we all seem pretty screwed. Sucks. innocent.gif

I am just sticking with the version before last of Uber@tion since I find it easier with it to do the EUD triggers without having to jack with Starforge.

Do what you want. I'm just not allowing it here. If it gets all big an popular, so be it. When your computer screws up because of EUD stuff, make sure you come over here and tell everyone so they see exactly why I did this.

I don't think EUD maps should be a lottery in which maps will censored.gif up your computer. As awesome as they are, majority of bnet users won't supoprt them anyway.

A damn shame, but so be it. I guess all we can do now is trust that Blizzard does something soon.

Atleast we still have EUD conditions... (Yoshi, will maps with EUD conditions be allowed in the DLDB?)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ultimo on 2005-08-17 at 09:22:35
Pretty sure that the EUD conditions don't alter any sort of memory, therefore, impossible to execute malicious code. (OR CAN THEY?)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by The_Lead_Factor on 2005-08-17 at 09:26:23
i would bet yes because the conditions themselves are harmless.....and any 1 who wishes to continue EUD reaserch has the right to do so
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Tuxedo Templar on 2005-08-17 at 09:47:36
Hmm, well if that includes HP detection, among other things, that won't be so bad.

And I think you're going too far to call us morons. So far, everyone I've seen who disses EUDs hasn't done anything worth mentioning for UMS themselves.
