You have the Copy/Paste Tab and Paste Mixed option, what do you want more?
Doesn't that copy the whole entry?
Wait, do you mean "Copy Tab"? I didn't say a specific tab, but a specific entry and editing them at once.
I already finished what I wanted this for anyways. tongue.gif

ADDITION:
In Techs and Upgrades where it has "Zerg", "Terran", "Protoss", and "All" for the race "All" makes it disabled in StarEdit. It seems more like "Disabled" than "All"..

in sprites.dat, the circle size selection box needs to be bigger...

and im images.dat, if you "check ->" a overlay you cant get the grp file name back unless you re-select the image Id

I think I found a new unknown in sprites.dat
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=ST&f...t=0#entry440424
Starting research...

Suggestions for next DatEdit version:
set unit Dats to default command
make DatEdit Remember the last opened folder
its a better idea to make "open folder" to open a window just like normal "open"
but you could use the drag-box intead pointing every time something like this C:\Documents and Settings\EvilBeaVer\Desktop\Mpq\arr to open a folder on my desktop

The nuke option sounds rather useless. Setting all values to 0 means you'd have to edit them all, thus making it easier to change each value instead. If it's really necessary, you could always use Arsenal Zero to do it rather easily...

As TF said, the Circle Size dropdown needs to be bigger.... Also, are the values there the only ones available, or why can't you use a value of 28 for example?

[edit=1]Addition: From another topic:

QUOTE
There are in fact 3 overlays: Small, Medium and Large. In DatEdit, you can choose from these 3 only, because it wouldn't make ant sense to do otherwise, but in Arsenal3 thisimages.dat property was just a number - a pointer to images.tbl.

Launch up Arse3 and look for the Shield OL property. Write down the values that appear in it, then launch up TBLPad and go to the appropriate lines in it. Voila - you have the files you wanted

If you could make it point to other .grp's than just those three, I definitely think you should give that option.

Why can't the mods let the topics be open after they are considered to be 'solved'? This is getting ridiculous. An example is a guy asking for file specs a while back. I was going to post a link to quite a few Blizzard specs, many which I don't belive are available at all in any community, but nooo, topic closed. Oh well, I guess I'm not the one suffering from the stupidity.

The nuke option is for people wanting to re-make a unit completely and want to be able to see what they have changed already and what still needs to be fixed

QUOTE(Ojan)

Actually, theres alot of options you can choose but DatEdit only displays the ones broodkiller thought was usefull...

its actually a pointer to a Images.dat Id # (DatEdit only includes # 561 through # 580)

No offence, but that nuke option sounds pretty useless IMO. As I said, it can be done relatively painless in Arsenal Zero.

QUOTE(TF)

Yeah, I suspected that. That is a huge drawback in my opinion. The hint box should be used for a brief description of the setting you're editing as well as a list of useful values where such a list is needed, in my opinion.

At least add the ability to allow any values in the options dialog. You should obviously not be able to put in 400 in a box where the max value that's possible is 255, but you should be able to select any size you want of the selection circle.

[edit=1]Fourtyone's idea is pretty good actually... You select a bunch of units in the list, and you can edit a specific option for all of them.... For example, if you select many units, and they have different health, that box should be blank, until you put something there, which would apply to all units. If you don't put anything, it should be left as it is, obviously. That feature would be totally awesome for testing unknowns...[/edit]
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-03-06 at 16:45:31
also, If you select multiple units with the same number in a field (Example: all having 100 HP), it would need to say the number instead of being blank

Dont compare the file names with Arsenal III's names tongue.gif

He changed it from venom to lethal ejector for a reason (I think it was mis-labelled),
and that is wraith afterburners, not engine glow (its a unused spell that was in the beta versions of starcraft)

From a discussion about these:

[2004:01:06-16:05:58] <BroodKiller> I know it is not a good [list]
[2004:01:06-16:06:13] <BroodKiller> It has been done just a draft
[2004:01:06-16:06:19] <BroodKiller> *just as a draft
[2004:01:06-16:06:43] <BroodKiller> Never had time nor motivation to make it more "user-friendly"
[2004:01:06-16:07:07] <+Ojan> tongue.gif
[2004:01:06-16:07:11] <+Ojan> I find it pretty nifty
[2004:01:06-16:08:11] <+Ojan> What is a "Lethal Ejector"?
[2004:01:06-16:08:31] <BroodKiller> Nifty....shifty - it has not been intended to be even "decent"
[2004:01:06-16:08:46] <BroodKiller> It was just made to be there under one form or another
[2004:01:06-16:08:54] <BroodKiller> The ejector?
[2004:01:06-16:09:00] <BroodKiller> That's the funny thing I put in it
[2004:01:06-16:09:20] <BroodKiller> I used this sprite in one of my first mods and called the weapon like that
[2004:01:06-16:09:29] <+Ojan> lol
[2004:01:06-16:09:49] <BroodKiller> I liked the name, so I left it like that - it is originally unused so you se..
[2004:01:06-16:10:05] <+Ojan> Ah ;p
[2004:01:06-16:10:16] <+Ojan> Unknown or unused?
[2004:01:06-16:11:13] <BroodKiller> I mean what I write - it unused
[2004:01:06-16:11:15] <BroodKiller> *it is
[2004:01:06-16:11:28] <BroodKiller> In A3 it is listed as "Glave Wurm"
[2004:01:06-16:11:36] <BroodKiller> which it clearly is not
[2004:01:06-16:11:46] <BroodKiller> and no original sprite uses it
[2004:01:06-16:12:04] <+Ojan> lol
[2004:01:06-16:12:24] <+Ojan> All the ??? in the list - Are they unknown or unused?
[2004:01:06-16:13:41] <BroodKiller> They are exactly what the name says: "WHAT THE fark IS THIS LITTLE PIECE OF shiz ABOUT??!!"
[2004:01:06-16:14:22] <BroodKiller> I got no idea about these
[2004:01:06-16:14:49] <BroodKiller> Even after running a two-week crossover through the full Iscript.bin decompiled with IceCC
[2004:01:06-16:14:51] <+Ojan> Unknown then ;p
[2004:01:06-16:15:05] <BroodKiller> Completely Unknown I would say
[2004:01:06-16:15:09] <BroodKiller> to me at last...

If you change something and you have the thing you changed selected, you can press alt+z and undo one change tongue.gif

also...if you press alt+z again it will redo the change...unless you changed it again after the undo

Heh...this is not a DatEd-specific feature - it works for the textboxes in general smile.gif

At least add the ability to allow any values in the options dialog. You should obviously not be able to put in 400 in a box where the max value that's possible is 255, but you should be able to select any size you want of the selection circle.

Well, the thing here is not that I decided not to allow certain circle sizes to be used, but the fact that these size are the ONLY ones available! The selection circles are just images, located in the GRPs, and the size in pixels is put there only for the convenience of the modder - not my malevolence or anything.

We know that these are the only ones available, but people can still mod them in or make it use a unit if they wanted to...

thus, we need a second box that displays all of them tongue.gif

Definitly do not include the nuke option because whats the point? And when you add new features to DATedit remember please keep it neat/tidy so its easy to use and dont try to cram too many features into DATedit, because messy programs where you cant figure out a simple thing becuase of the vast ammounts of buttons surrounding it are a real pain and it leads to lots and lots of errors...like pressing the wrong button.

Yes, please do smile.gif

Or make a setting in the options dialog that replaces the drop down box with a numberbox where you can put in any value

I would very much like to see this in all places where it is possible, not just the selection circle size

My Suggestion list
  • Auto-TBL edit, like there is a new box with the units name in there. When that is changed, so is it's TBL. A seperate box for its hotkey
  • automatic edit/add files to MPQ

I'm considering including the TBL-editing functionality in one of the post-1.0 updates, so don't expect v0.95 to have this. Same goes for the multi-entry selection (if at all).

BTW: DatEdit v0.95 is pretty much ready. I only have to finish writing the Hints (that WILL finally be included!) for everything, which takes time, because I have to do a lot of testing. If you wanna know I already discovered a few interesting effects in units.dat, so stay frosty smile.gif

Would one of these be the property that Hatcheries and Infested CCs share--namely, being able to be built either on or off Creep? Is it? Please? WHERE THE HECK IS THAT PROPERTY?

Other than that, sounds cool.
