A little thing I noticed about 94b: you spelled "Maelstrom" as "Mealstorm" in the sprites listing "Maelstrom Hit".

hay that's not a bug in DatEdit, a unit without a portrait crash StarCraft. The ability to remove the portrait should be there, anyway.

#####DatEdit v0.95 Update#####

It is my pleasure yet again to present to you a new version of DatEdit. As always, I prepared some new toys for you people to play with (yeah, I know - I'm too good for ya...tongue.gif), which you can check out and enjoy after you're finished reading this.

As far as I can tell, this version is the most probable candidate to become the official and public "v1.0" release, after necessary bugfixing. So, get your ass and get moving: there is a lot of testing work to do, aye?! wink.gif

Fixes:
-Units Editor: the Basic tab has changed a little - I separated the previously "Others" properties and put the appropriate property pairs into their own boxes. It looks better this way.
-Also in the Basic tab - the Provided and Required Supply has been changed to display the raw hex value, which is TWO TIMES more than the supply used in-game. This fixes the Zergling and Scourge supply bug. Appropriate note was added to the hint as well.
-In the StarEdit tab the "Player Settings" and "Special Effect" options have been exchanged, because their function turned out to be wrongly labeled.
-Again in the StarEdit tab of the Units Editor, the Sublabel dropdown menu has been changed into a display-only text box, to eliminate the errors produced by the old control.
-Portraits Editor: the Unknown2 property is now called "SMK Change". Read the hint for explanation.
-Repositioned the ID# from the status bar to the interface. Should be more accessible now.
-Images Editor: Added a "Check ->" button for the GRP property. You no longer have to reselect the entry in order to get back its GRP (more specifically - an images.tbl pointer wink.gif)
-Images Editor: Added a "Check ->" button for the Shield property, as well as a text box displaying the raw hex value (pointer to images.tbl). This will allow you to use your custom shield overlays. The dropdown box is still there with shield overlay 'templates'.
-Images Editor: Verified some of the Palette options. Should be more clear now.
-Sprites Editor: Added a text box for the Selection Circle property, which displays the raw hex value (a 561-based pointer to images.dat). This will allow you to use your custom selection circle graphics. Of course, the dropdown box is still there to provide you with the standard options.
-Weapons Editor: Changed the labels for the different Splash types. Radial Splash = Splash (Radial), Line Splash = Splash (Enemy), Air Splash = Splash (Air).

-Renamed all "Afterburners" to "Engines", not to create confusion when speaking of the Valkyrie's Afterburners tech.



New in DatEd v0.95:
-Search for Name
Below the listings you'll find a new textbox and a button. Just type in the entry name (or just a part of the name) you're looking for, and you'll be taken directly to it! This is an alternate way of getting to a particuliar entry to the "Jump to ID" feature.
Pressing the ENTER key will work the very same way as pressing the "Search" button.
IMPORTANT:The search is case-sensitive!!!
(which means typing in "zealot" will do you no good)

-Hints (finally!)
Self-explanatory, I guess. I tried my best but at the current state they're far from satisfactory. They will be updated in the incoming updates, but if you feel like there is something important missing in any of them, then contact me ASAP.

-Splash screen
Not a thing of high importance, but it looks cool smile.gif. No, it ain't one of those posted here,

-Last Opened Folder
DatEdit now remembers the last folder you opened (its path is stored in the INI file, if you're curious)

-Reload Default
Want to start a new mod from scratch after some long editing? This option loads the appropriate default DAT file right away, without even launching the "Open File" box.

-More jumping
Added the Jump buttons for the Sounds in Units Editor. smile.gif

Theres still 1 thing you did'nt fix that should be in it for the 1.0 version...

In the units.dat staredit tab the Zerg Terran and Protoss flags should be moved to the basic tab,
because it controls which supply the unit uses

ADDITION: the AI Actions tab in units.dat should have the jump feature to link them to the orders.dat entry they use tongue.gif

Another ADDITION: heres a list of units.dat hints that should be added

Advanced Tab:
1. Morph from other unit. (whether or not the unit is built from the "morph" ability, the button is hardcoded)
Movement/Sound Tab
1. 0x04 (Air) (whether or not the unit can move on water and over cliffs)

also, in the Upgrades tab the Upgrade Properties are'nt lined up tongue.gif

My only two opinions on your latest update are simple.

-I think the splash screen should load and remail present until clicked, then Datedit itself should load up. I feel that that would make the splash screen more purposeful and interesting, rather than it seeming somewhat cluttery since it covers part of the program.

-I like how it's centered now, but it still doesn't remember if it was left maximized. It's not really a problem for anyone who doesn't maximize it, so I suppose it's more of a nitpick from me than anything. Disregard if necessary, although if you could fix it, it would be nice.

I really have found a great deal of usage out of Datedit, and I hope you continue to find upgrades and improvements for it. Good luck to you.

ive been tinkering and tinkering, how do you make something launch out scarabs or interceptors?? did you not include that Broodkiller? or is it hard coded? and ive been trying to give units sub units like giving something a tank turret but it doesnt show it, help?

2. I've been trying to do that myself but hav'nt really found a way to prevent the crash...
I have my own iscript/lo*/dat files for it but it still does'nt work, I was testing it by making a tank have a goliath turret also tongue.gif

Thats simply cause they thought the unknowns where solved, but they guessed they did the wrong thing

It might also have to do with the fact that I gave the seige tank (not turret) the flame traps attack, along with the missile turrets attack tongue.gif

first, try refer to shadowflare works he upload gives the wraith a mutalisk as a turret mod files
there is "phoenix.lol" file

he changed the lol file for the wraith to make the mutalisk look like it is following the wraith.

and if gives something a something then u should check subunit's frames quantity
subunit's frames must be don't less than master unit
or if that unit's frames is less then u should edit iscript of master unit to play frames equality

Are you sure about this? Did you test it with StarGraft/Memgraft?

The Movement flags are all crap. None of them, except the Mine-Safe flag seem to be used AT ALL. Again, please test it.

I found a little problem with the icon names.
But actually it's such a small thing, u can even not bother with it smile.gif

Not all unused icons have (unused) after their name, like the "radioactive" or "infested mine" DO have it, but the "Repair bay", "Merceneray gunship", etc - don't.


Oh and do u still need the splash screen, or will u be using the current one?

As for the splash screen...if you have something interesting then show it up. Implementing random splash screens is a 1-minute piece'a'coding-cake.
