Ojan's right - Blizz inveted those, they're not my design.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-05-05 at 17:19:03
then I guess its okay...

sugguestions:
1. file directory history - used for easily reloading a mod directory that you've loaded before
2. multi-select - used for selecting multiple entries if you want to change a property for more then one of them,
used by holding down Ctrl and clicking/drag selecting another entry
3. the "Used by:" box to see where the Orders are used (in orders.dat) for easier researching into the unknowns tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Doodle77(MM) on 2006-05-05 at 17:21:23
Note that when multi-selecting, properties that are different between the units go empty.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-05-09 at 14:30:37
I'm sorry to disappoint you guys, but I'm afraid the next DatEd release = no multi-selection support. I have one very important and serious feature remaining to be implemented and I don't want to delay the release even more by starting the multi-selection thingy, because quite soon I'm going dedicate my free time to more important (read: Real Life-related) matters i.e: summer examination session.

Mind you, I don't say a definite NO on this idea, just that I won't have time (or I'll not be willing to use my time) for it in the near future.

ADDITION:
Just so you know, I think that the main DatEdit discussion will soon be moved onto the proper place, that is, the LK forums: http://forum.logicalknot.org/index.php (DatEdit subforum)

Also, starting with the next release the official program download will be located at the LK server, and not here, which means that I will no longer support the DLDB link. I'm not saying that I won't update it, but don't count on it either.

So basically your moving it off of SEN, a place full of modders, and on to a place with 2 people on at time who dont even know what SC is.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ojan on 2006-05-09 at 16:48:41
What makes you belive that SEN is the ultimate place for SC modding? I've seen way too many places to even consider this forum major in the modding timeline, even though it might be the currently biggest.

I think BK know the old CamSys feeling and miss it as much as I do smile.gif I feel ancient. *hits everyone with walking stick* You youngsters don't even know what CamSys was, do you?!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-05-10 at 10:30:41
Darktoss> You misunderstood me. I said that I'd like to move the DatEd discussion away from here, not that I'm moving out from here myself. SEN is a great place to be, and I don't intend to leave it. Also, the fact that the official program's download will be elsewhere should not actually matter unless it works, right? smile.gif
SEN was great at the program development time, when brainstorming was the way to go. But this is over, DatEd has almost reached its full capabilities (you'll see this in the next release) and, so to say "depleted the source". The other forum I mentioned will serve as the official "Tech Support" forum for DatEd, that's all.

Ojan>Don't be telling about CamSys, brother. We both have been there, we both know what it was alike and we both know that it will never come back. We do are Ancients, but we're here to hold and cherish the memory of The Great Days, not to spoil it. And don't ask'em about CamSys - within a few months they won't even remember what Arsenal and StarGraft was...which, to my mind, is a good thing. It is our duty to keep the memory of The Great Days, not theirs. CamSys has come and passed, SME has come and passed, SEN has come and will pass, as we both also will. You know the saying: "Each age has its own Greeks and its own Romans" - we were Romans once, got educated both technically and intelectually (emotionally?) and became the Greeks of today's modding community. Now it is our goal is to pass on the knowledge to the young lads....smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ojan on 2006-05-12 at 13:40:41
The greeks had their days of glory before the romans did, though wink.gif

Anyway, a nice feature would be to compare two files with each other (mostly useful to see what values that have been modded compared to the original). All changed values could be displayed in red or something... I don't know if you have time for that, but it'd be nice to have....

I might've just stumbled across the answer to a unknown in orders.dat, but it needs to be tested more...

I think unknown 10 issues a command for the unit to die when the order is finished executing, but I'm not sure yet so don't get too excited (having problems with starcraft, so I can't test it in-game, I can only look at values in editor)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-05-30 at 15:37:09
I can look at that one...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-05-30 at 21:16:10
Nevermind, I just looked at it again and it's used in a bunch of other commands...sorry pinch.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-06-01 at 01:02:37
I noticed too. However, it's used somehow when selecting targets....I can't figure out how though...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MasonMcCoy on 2006-06-01 at 02:40:07
I'd say the best explanation is that this particular value doesn't change anything on its own: it only results differently depending on some other value. I don't see that kind of thing done very often, but it is done.

Sorry for the problem I caused, hopefully this list I made will help with some of the unknown solving smile.gif

I tried to make it shorter by putting similar orders on the same row, but I couldn't shorten #3 good enough, sorry disgust.gif

Can someone test Nothing1 for me? I think that it has to do with whether workers select that target as a drop-off point for resources. ermm.gif

Just out of curiosity, but about when do you expect the next version to be released? smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-06-03 at 04:24:39
Honestly, all I can say is "somewhere during the summer holidays". I have all the necessary fixes done already, but I'm implementing two very important features: TBL-editing and MPQ-basing (editing/making mods in form of MPQ archives, not bare DATs) . The first is already completed, although I still need to fix some issues with stat_txt.tbl and color tags. The latter is currently at works but I requires me to alter several core routines to work properly, and I don't have time to do this, because of my faculty.
This semester our "summer" exams started in march instead of june (I have 12 exams, whereas the usual amount is 4-5) and that's the major reason why there has not been any updates to DatEd since v1.0. I can work only little amounts of time, when I happen to have it free (read: less occupied than usual).
Let me tell you this: don't expect anything, it'll be done when it'll be done. It may be done this week, it may be done around September.

Cheers mate. Don't rush things, make sure you do well in school, I'll at least be patiently waiting for this to be complete.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-06-19 at 14:16:23
Hello people,
just in order to keep you up to date I'd like to say that the MPQ-support feature is almost complete and the project is advancing toward v1.1 rather sooner than later smile.gif

BK out.

I feel so useless as a beta tester these days, I can't even test the upcoming releases sad.gif

nice to see a update, that just comes to show that you didn't forget about it...
I was beginning to think you forgot about it and stopped working on it for the time being tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-06-19 at 19:02:42
No, I certainly didn't forget about it - I want DatEd to possess a certain specific set of features and I won't stop until I achieve this, be it tomorrow, be it next year wink.gif

Be it for starcraft II....

I like the sounds of the mpq stuff mate. Keep up the good work.

i have just one suggestion
try supporting Favorite Conatin function to direct call wanted unit repeatedly
like this
-------------
Favorite
------------
SCV
marine ---[add/remove/edit]
Probe
Nexus
Command Center
---------------------
that much useful if modder work to serveral units
i believe u would support that if u look upon modder's workflow
