I would like to also apply for a project leader.
If I am able to get this position, I think you can take me off of the "Beta Tester's"
11 sentence essay…
Well, I am currently working on a TC but I do not have all of the right tools for the job, so I am going to bring part of it to the light. Anyways, here goes.
My idea starts here:
My idea is to have a medieval based RPG. There will be a whole new graphic interface. I.E. lots of RetroGRP. There will also be many new spells added with the iscript. Here are some small examples. You are a basic marine, except you are able to cloak for a brief amount of time (ten seconds to be exact). You will also have a random melee attack. Kind of like the Dark Templar, except you’ll have to be in a close enough range to be able to use it. The part that I think will be the most fun would have to be the terrain. (I am not sure how to do this). But, it will really boost the game-play. You will start off in a small village on the outskirts of a metropolis. Once you get past the city, winter will begin (your party will have to rest for like a few hours each day (only like 10 seconds)). You will switch from the jungle tile-set to winter. You go through the next city, do quests, bosses, fight etc… Then winter will slowly fade away into spring. You will go back into Jungle tile-set. Then spring wears off and summer comes in. Of course, Desert tile-set!

… And by that time the game “should” be completed.
If you would like the actual storyline to the map, let me know. I can get it to you in about 3-5 days.
Now, for the programs.
Arsenal III is one of the first steps you take into modding. Most likely the easiest to pick up on. To me it is the easiest to work with(that’s because I do not know much about bin editing). With this editor you are able to change the unit’s graphics. Such as, the sprite it uses to attack. You can have a marine attack with an Archon’s ray, or you can have it attack with a goliaths missiles. What ever you feel like you can almost do. Just make sure you watch out for crashes.
MPQDraft. This little baby will fire up your MPQ so you can play your MOD’s. Very useful. You can also make your MOD auto firing by turning it into an “.exe”.
WinMPQ is what compiles all of the little data files to make the MPQ. If you don’t have this, get out of modding, because there is no other way to compile the data.
TblPad. Now this little guy helps you change what the default text is. Example: You can change an Upgrade’s button display “Chicken is good” instead of “Upgrade ---”.
StarGraft and MemGraft. These are possibly the third most important programs in modding. If you do not have these you can’t make units do some very weird things. Such as, train Civilians, make an Archon have psionic storm, make a marine build buildings. And much, much more. The only problem is, these programs are a big step to learn. But, once you begin learning with these, you can make a lot with these.
Ice and IceCC. Now, with these tools, you can actually dip into some really neat things. Such as, give units that have no way of attacking to begin attacking. Such as, you can make a dropship use interceptor’s or have civilian use the yamato gun. I think the really cool thing is, being able to give units MELEE attacks. Take BSTRhino’s Doom Dragoon for example. The dragoon could do a mortal kombat attack type of move.
Photoshop. This is a must if you would like to begin changing graphics. With this and RetroGRP you can do some very amazing things.
ScAIEdit. Are you angry that you can kick the comps ass to easily? Well, then this little guy is for you. You can change the computers AI with this package. This is a must if you are making a new RPG and you want the units to have different attack programs. I.E. make things more hostile, defensive, or neutral. Many, many possibilities with this program.
If there is any that I missed, let me know and I will do some more research on them.
