SS_DD, 1 thing to say to you...

Learn to blend.

That is all.

I enjoy seeing some of these pieces. I like the ideas but I don't like your results.

Actually, you are posting so much critizism so you almost drown in it, if you want to make the terrain makers more experienced in their work, make them better then. Your arrogance and your "professional" terrain and blending skills could be used for good instead of bad things.

Learn them! Don't destroy their self esteem!

I would like to add that sprites aren't terrain. Sprites are for decoration not for hiding massive blending problems. In this case he wants a piece of terrain that looks like castle entrance. I believe he can make it all covered with sprites himself, but thats why he ask it in TERRAIN FORUM. These few last pieces are more like sprite jobs for non-existing sprite forum...

Okay, I've made something outta scratch. I can say directly that it is slightly blocky but I think this is the most original entrance I've seen in this competition.

Well, It's up to you to get inspiration from it and maybe make something good outta it.

I slightly enhanced it in Photoshop by lighten it and add some colours, I thought it maybe would be easier to get an overall look over the picture.

This little concept isn't done, that's why there is ending so sharp in some places.

I can't start Starcraft because my CD is broken, therefore there is a picture in Starforge.

Here you go

Those are very blocky blends. I also don't like the idea. It is just an organization of temple, ruins, ruins doodad repeated many times, and a simple bridge that you successfully blended incorrectly... Lol

I don't care if you like it or not, but I explained that I made this from a scratch and almost ignored the blocky parts because I wanted to show my point what I think is a potential "ramp" drawbridge entrance thingy.

And to the bridge, that wasn't even a part of the whole thingy, but I don't got that much interest for everything to look completely perfect, I just want to show people that I made what I thought about.
As I am retired I don't interest in this anymore, and with you on Staredit it makes it even less interesting.

And since you don't like any of our terrains, then show us how it's going to be done so we learn from you in the future. And don't come with that pathetic, immature answer that it's a competition for noobs and noobs only, because I am not a noob and I know that I ain't one either.

Chrono, you seem to forget where you are... you are in a Terrain Forum, meaning that i say "Newb" on the basis that you are a Terrain Newb. And that is what I AM inplying... and that is what you ARE.

I prefer to call you, "Beginners" rather than "newbs," being that it is less offensive!

Hah, now you are making fun of yourself. I am not a terrain "Newb" or beginner or whatever you call it. Stop making yourself look like a god and that everyone are your servants, because we're not and you are not the one who shall say who's noob and who is not.

And I know where I am, that's why I posted my terrain pics here.

I fail to see the benefit in being so offensive to me? Calm down and stop spamming and flamming...

I feel you are a newb at terrain... There is nothing that can reverse my opinion but your display of good terrain... I could care less who you think is "in charge" any1 can make opinions. You are the one to deside if I am serious or accurate enough.

I am not making fun of myself, nore are you displaying any purpose in this conversation continuing.

You could seriously chill out now... Oo

I am acting like a god? That means that you know god and have seen him post on a forum and studied his way of typing messages... are you saying that if God was on SEN, he would type messages like me? I am truely honored by your comment! <3

Constructive criticism is good. It may down a person's self-esteem but it's helpful to know what your faults are. Let's not turn this into a flame war.

Can you guys add like... how much time you spend on each piece? Like accurate numbers and such? I fixed a Rantent highdirt-highdirt temple opening piece with 4 hours of blending... It turned out perfect, so I can't say it was a waste of time...

How about htese pieces your making SS DD? Time? are they usefull to you now? Will you modify them in time? will you rethink any of it?

Bridge Tile Research is only at its begining stages. I found some neat blends that, if your interested, I can show you. I have them on a seperate map from Crescent Dyne, so it is fine if your not on the offical testor team... ~~

Well Wooden I would like to include how much time I spend on blending but It would be very misleading. For one time slips away from me when I start messing with terrain I dont know what it is but i can lose huge tracks of time (which usually results in almost being late to work, but only sometimes). Other times when I terrain though, Im on a mac running virtual PC which is far slower than using a real PC, So would that count for time, Or what about time just coming up with ideas. I mean I guess i could give a rough estimate of how much time i spend actually terraining everything out and blending it (which is still my weak point although I am getting better). But For the actual brainstorming process I dont think I could give an estimate for.

I think that building these castles is almost like a self tutorial on how to terrain. I think that after this I will have learned a lot about the the jungle tilset and how to utilize a lot of it effectively.

Also I would like to see some of the blends you've found. I'll see if I can find you on b.net. ANd the remodeling process is already underway. If I catch up with you on b.net before i post the new shots I'll let you see the map.

i agree, WAAAAAY too many sprites, you don't even get what they are without an explanation, its mostly just ISOM terrain with a few tiles changed out here and there, i mean, in some places you can't even see the walkable ground

there are sure a lot of sprites but this is more than ISOM

Eh, which peie would this be?

And I'd like to say time is relative to the terrainist. (Depending on the spped they're traveling in comparison to.. nvm) I hardly ever sit down for over 45 minutes in one sitting. I usually plan out exactly (or roughly close) to what I'm going to make before I make it though. So its usually only a few peices that get caught up. But of course someone who has had less experience terraining would take longer.

Whats wrong with having a billion sprites on a terrain piece anyway? I guess I will one day place 255 spirtes on a terrain just for kicks. Yea baby. Pwn those non-spriters.
