Captain Will, it is called Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

But read below:

QUOTE(Mini Moose 2707 @ May 24 2006, 11:58 AM)
Say the two parents are drunk at conception and then no longer drink.
The mother's body has alcohol in it for awhile until it reaches a normal level. Meanwhile, the cells that made up the embryo keep dividing rapidly, diluting whatever alcohol there, making it smaller and smaller amounts. If no more alcohol is ingested, eventually that's going to level off just as in the mother.

And:

QUOTE(BeeR_KeG @ May 24 2006, 01:43 PM)
Nope. Blood travels through the blood system and not on men's sperm or a woman's eggs. Women drinking while pregnancy may cause some sort of damage to the embryo because the feeds the embryo via blood, and since her blood has alcohol, then alcohol is passed too.

At time of impregnating the woman, it doesn't really matter.

Will isn't stupid. He knows what FAS is. He was saying that FAS doesn't happen AT conception, only AFTER.

Maybe reading the thread would help, dumbspam.

I think youl rather have the baby accidentaly while drunk lol..

I doubt theres a huge change, that the baby will have genetical defects.. But that change exists with every child..

I did a little research (which usually just means a wikipedia search) and found out the following:

During the first trimester, according to Sterling Clarren and Ann Streissguth of the University of Washington, alcohol interferes with the migration and organization of brain cells (Journal of Pediatrics, 92(1):64-67).

Most of the clinical features of FAS (the facial and other visible deformities) are believed to be caused mainly during the 10th and 20th week (Early Human Development; 1983 Jul Vol. 8(2) 99-111).

During the third trimester, damage can be caused to the hippocampus, which plays a role in memory, learning, and emotion, leading to difficulty encoding visual and auditory information (Neurotoxicology and Teratology, 13:357-367, 1991).

There's nothing about it causing damage at conception. I would guess that FAS is more a result of cumulative alcohol poisoning of the foetus (UK spelling) rather than one binge.

It seems like many people still drink when pregant however, as FAS is the leading cause of mental retardation of varying degrees of severity in Western societies, according the Wikipedia, and many of those afflicted show criminal tendencies.

Looks like we've got a vicious cycle here:

Irresponsible mother drinks during pregnancy -> child has FAS -> if child is female, she may repeat the cycle.

QUOTE(DarK @ May 22 2006, 06:33 AM)
Also drinking actively in a young age will most possibly lead to alcoholism.
And mostly in young age you are influenced by your friends to drink. Just like with smoking and every other thing that children or anyone should realy do.

I always find it funny when people say that their friends influence them to do everything. My parents always thought that my friends were bad influences on me until I told them, "Did it ever occur to you that I was a bad influence on them?"

It's not always the kids friends that are making other kids do things. It could be you.

Lol id like to say.. SHOULDNT do lol

Yes it can be so.. But how are you a bad influence if Joe comes with a bottle of beer and says ,, Hey Jimmy wanna try some beer, haha haha '' And Jimmy doubts a little and Joe then says ,, Comon buddy! '' And Jimmy agrees! So how did you influence Joe when he influences you to drink after he does? ( My odd logic but w/e )

But what if you go up to your friends (Giving you the benefit of the doubt.) with MORE than one bottle of beer, since you'd be a pretty damn big lightweight if it was only one bottle, and offered him to drink. Then you're the influence. My kickass logic. Yeah.

Depends on what ya smoke, ya know? But I don't drink too often either. Only if I'm at a party and I don't have any weed then I'll drink. I'll get high rather than drunk anyday.
