Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kyuubi. on 2006-07-31 at 22:01:38
i agree with anyone else that says this is one wierd patch, those bugs and glitch exploit fixes has a real bad side-effect on a ton of maps and the people working on their current maps might have to change all their text

anyway, i dont mind the text changes on the maps and stacking, but i hope they can fix it soon so we can join and play games that has that kind of text...i really gotta buy a new starcraft disc now, that patch messed something up. the patch was successful, but when i kept trying to get into starcraft, it kept crashing on me. i tried reinstalling but i guess my original starcraft disk is very beat up so i can't install it. so...anyway i'll be out of starcraft til i can find a place where they still sell them...

besides that, what i want to know is what we're they thinking when they released this patch. it might be a rush job or either they want to shove starcraft aside, disabling the bnet ladder and a ton of ums maps...so what are we gonna do now?

Well, now I have an excuse not to put color in SC:AoW. I was going to do that in the end, but whatever.

Updated Patch Notes:

Desperado's Patch Notes - StarCraft 1.14

  • Numerous cheats and exploits have been fixed.
  • Ladder play has been removed (possibly only for the duration of the WCG) and the Ladder button now links to a WCG page on www.battle.net. Player rankings remain the same, but Ladder games are no longer an option and in a player's profile Ladder games are no longer listed.
  • Text colors and overlapping in force names is no longer possible.
  • All other text coloring and overlapping remains the same, with the exception of the "Invisible" color, which is now red. It is unlikely that it was removed, but it will need to be refound.
  • Player names (the text) while in-game now correspond to their player color. If colors over 12 are used, the default color of light blue is used. This means that the colors of Red, Blue, Teal, Purple, Orange, Brown, White, Yellow, Green, Tan, Light Yellow, and Light Blue will be available for use with the Display Text Message action, at the very least.
  • Player colors over 12 are now different. The commonly used "17" is no longer black, though other numbers can be inputted to make the player black. The numbers 29, 33, and 36 will give you the Black color on multiple tilesets.
  • Maps with overlaps in the Map Name can be hosted, but others cannot join your game. If this is a glitch, and not an intended effect, it is likely Blizzard will undo this in 1.14b
  • The StarCraft game icon has been changed to a new drawing of the Terran Wraith. Using the Change Icon function in the Shortcut properties will allow you to change this back to the old icon, should you prefer that.

Fixed exploit that allowed buildings to be stacked on top of each other.

This does not mean that stacking is disabled. You can still do so both in game as well as pre-place units stacked on top of eachother. What this is referring to is a hack and/or exploit which allowed players to stack units in Melee games or in UMS games without triggers which disable vision for the player.

Hm...This patch changed almost as much features as that 1.13 patch, or whichever one that featured in-game pinging and stuff.

The only thing I don't like is the fact that all the old maps that won't be updated anymore will have their player colors offset.

I hadn't downloaded the patch, so I was acting off information on here. I might've misinterprated the information or read a bit of incorrect information and flown off the handle over that. I'm sorry, but it was explicitly mentioned by koltz.

You, Salacious, are pointing fingers at me out of a personal dislike. I don't really care about colors, but building stacking is a pretty big part of advanced mapmaking. I'll research things before putting in my two cents, eh? I hope you'll be seeing a nice warn increase in the future.

Unlikely. My original post referred to you as a "dipcrap" but I realized this was flaming and replaced it with mention of your ignorance on the matter. I have replaced the character defamation of you with the following message:

Colored text on maps seems fine.

The only text I see uncolored (regular light blue) is the Map Description.

Despite numerous people including colors in the Map Description, it has never been possible to view the map description in a window in which colors are even shown. The only time you can see the map description is on the Create Game screen, which shows everything in white against a black background.

The bad thing about this patch is force colors and maps with stacked names are unplayable, when those are fixed, ill love sc again.

So with the new colors such as purple, orange, according to your in game color does this mean that it would be possible to have a Terran Marine?

It may be possible but I would not count on it. It will definetly work for the Display Text Message action, but beyond that no one can know at this point.

Surely this is just a bad dream. Those ingame player team colors look absolutely awful. By awful I mean they hurt to look at. I can't believe Blizzard would ruin the forces' colors just to stop spoofing. Not to mention any names, but of course any people that play pretty much only melee wouldn't care about colors in forces. While it doesn't make a game good, it does make it look better. Some... well... morons here can't grasp that. "Well, games can be good without it, even though it looks nice and normal text is bland and disgusting; so because it helps make a map look professional, I'm glad it's out." WCG now sucks in my opinion. A lot.

I don't care that they "fixed" the exploits (what a joke), but that they started to mess with other things peeves me off a great deal.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Desperado on 2006-07-31 at 22:59:59
If they actually fixed spoofing, that is a very good thing. With host hack and spoofing, people can constantly join your games and ban you from maps YOU have hosted. Stopping spoofing would disallow this from happening. You cannot imagine how horrible it is to be unable to host public games because some script kiddie keeps joining and banning you out of your own hosted game.

Yay. No more suicide hack. Suicide hack just overwrote memory for a units order to 0, labeled "die." Deathknight and I were finding lots different orders to change with a memory editor, and they pretty much patched them all. The best one was turning your own burned command center into ANYONE's infested command center.

QUOTE(Desperado @ Jul 31 2006, 07:55 PM)
I am extremely confident Blizzard will release a patch to change this. I do not believe they had intended for that specific problem to occur in the first place. It is likely an accidently glitch. However, I would not mind if they did not, since almost no maps use overlaps, excluding bounds. I would be very happy to see bounds removed from Battle.net, however no one really plays them anymore anyway.

ADDITION:
This makes no sense at all. The purpose of this patch was to update StarCraft for use in the WCG tournament. If you pay attention to the patch notes, almost all of the fixes are to stop exploits. They have already made it impossible for people trying to compete to use maphacks and other problems, and now they have patched it so that they cannot use in-game cheats (exploits.) They have also given player names a color to go with their player color, this was most likely a much requested feature of Tournament competitors. This patch was designed with the specific purpose of making StarCraft more accomodating to professional gamers.

I dont know whether to reply to this or not, because you're going to respond with an essay-long reply which is just gonna waste 10 minutes of my life. But even a post of this length is bound to send you typing for hours right? That statement that i said was entirely my opinion, why do you have to "prove my opinion wrong." if you agree with it, say so, if you dont agree with it keep your mouth shut. No need to prove to people that your opinion rules mine.

Koltz could you please go back to your old posts and remove the bold faced line:
"Fixed exploit that allowed buildings to be stacked on top of each other."

You are confusing a lot of people. That information is not accurate, as you can still stack in-game just as you were always able to. This line refers to a hack which allowed you to stack in melee games. Please include this information.

  disconnect game result.

This is, as far as I know, the first update for Staredit.exe made in a long time. Several exploits were patched, and some new features have been added.

This patch is byfar the most detailed I've seen since the lame one-liners, and here, is seen.

There are several misinterpretations of the patch too, as I will be explaining below.

Under bug fixes.

QUOTE
- Fixed Hatchery cancellation crash bug.
- Fixed a scoring bug that gave Zerg unit points for building cancellation.
- Fixed a rare crash in multiplayer games.

These describe several released "Resource Hacks" and "supply hacks" that use valid commands on invalid units.

QUOTE
- Fixed crash when Mac users very quickly cancel connection to Battle.net.

This is unknown to me.

QUOTE
- Fixed crash that can occur when SCVs are repairing a unit boarding a Dropship.

I believe this was already fixed in a previous patch.

Under exploit fixes.

QUOTE
- Fixed two exploits that allowed players to gain minerals very quickly.

This also relates to the "resource hacks" mentioned above.

QUOTE
- Fixed the Nydus Canal cancellation bug that allowed creating a mobile exit.
- Fixed exploit with Arbiter that allowed Zerg buildings to become cloaked.

These are in relation to the "Nydus Exit" and "Cloak Zerg Buildings" bugs. They have been patched. Zerg units can still be permanently cloaked by the arbiter.

QUOTE
- Fixed exploit that allowed units to kill themselves instantly.

Comfirmed-- is fixed. Although worker units can still suicide with a different command.

QUOTE
- Fixed exploit that allowed Command Center infestation without a Queen.
- Fixed exploit that allowed Command Center infestation from a distance.
- Fixed exploit that allowed worker units to mine at a distance.

Comfirmed-- are all fixed. This is tool-assisted only. The arbiter-related glitches are still functional.

QUOTE
- Fixed exploit that allowed players to float Zerg Drones over obstacles.

There were two commands that allowed this to occur. Only one has been fixed. The other remains. In other words, this exploit exists still.

QUOTE
- Fixed exploit that allowed morphing Terran and Protoss buildings.

This is related to a variety of misc. command hacks that have not been tested in the new patch.

QUOTE
- Fixed exploit that allowed Terran buildings to lift off while training units.

I believe this relates to the glitch, which still works by the way.

QUOTE
- Fixed exploit that allowed SCVs to repair Protoss buildings.
- Fixed exploit that allowed SCVs to detach Larvae from Hatcheries.

The first exploit did not exist, however, the exploit allowed an SCV to continue building a protoss building so that it would build twice as fast, as well as detach larvae from hatcheries, and prevent zerg units from hatching.

QUOTE
- Fixed exploit that allowed buildings to be stacked on top of each other.

Stacking buildings still works with "lights off" in UMS mode.

QUOTE
- Playing against illegally named players on Battle.net no longer results in a
  disconnect game result.

This is in relation to a "name spoofer" hack.

Glitch Related
The following non-tool assisted glitches have been patched:

- Nydus Exit Bug: Assisted by the Selection Glitch, allows you to cancel a Nydus Canal's exit and modify the Nydus Canal's unit variable.
- Infesting Crash: A crash involving a Queen when infesting a Terran Command Center, by using a command without selecting a target as the queen is entering the building. Crashes locally only.
- Morph Cloaked Buildings: Cloaked Zerg Drones morphing into cloaked Zerg Buildings.
- Unnamed: Cancelling upgrades assisted with the Selection Glitch on invalid units.

ALL other non-tool assisted glitches remain.

Bugs Caused

- Reports indicate that players cannot play the official PGTour maps online.

Other Changes

- Map Colours have been changed/modified to the following:
