Map Protection should be a requirement of any map...

I should say that, if you want to view the inner workings of a map, ask the map makers. Email them questions, ask them if they can get some test maps of systems in the map...

People, not alone maps, should be the source of learning.
Now that you have made OSMAP, how about a little Anti-OSMAP info? Jerk! smile.gif

Staredit.net has had that approach since it's been alive. It's not perfect because people are not perfect.

Blizzard did nothing to stop the spread of OSMAP. By doing so, they supported the program. StarEdit has no function to protect maps.

Fix? I had no idea maps were broken.

Protected maps are broken maps. Maps are supposed to be able to be opened with both StarEdit and StarCraft. StarEdit also makes some mistakes that OSMAP fixes (unowned blank triggers).

By your logic, if I did not try to help solve the thousand of murder mysteries, I support every single one. Yeah, I don't think so.

Okay, I have no proof.

Neither do you.

Therefore, Blizzard simply doesn't care.

Protection a map involves MODIFYing the program. =P They felt what they had created was enough to have fun. If they wanted people to be able to password protect maps, they would include it in their games. The difference between you and them, is they have the right to make this choice, you don't.

I never knew you made that...good job! (I've never used it before, and this is not sarcastic...)

I think this should help out the mapping community alot, one of the things I've always enjoyed about modding is how everything's open-source, and it has a friendly community that's willing to help out with anything, even by giving examples.

Now you're bringing this concept to mapmaking, I personally think SEN should support this, but not the unprotected maps.
(I know, you're all going to flame me...but I just think that mapmakers deserve the same advantages as modders have.)

Edit: wow, so many users...

So, basically Legacy is self-righteous and he thinks he has the right to give anybody any map that they so desire. You know, some people don't want their maps modified. What other argument is needed? They put in the hard work to make the game as they wanted to. Modders are just posers after all. tongue.gif

So we can't make map editors? That's creating a derivative work based on the Program.

And I resent that comment about modders.

Obviously, LegacyWeapon made this program for the attention it recieved in SEN, and this eventual day with which he would tell everyone that he indeed created OSMAP.

I think that LegacyWeapon should have admin powers revoked, IP Banned, and told to find a new website to get attention from.

And if he gets banned, can I reopen my Crescent Dyne thread that he closed; also because he wanted attention? There are signs of his mental problems all over SEN.

Thats completely irrelevent, it applies to the starcraft program itself, not to the data files which it loads.

By that logic, OSMAP is also an illegal, EULA-violating program, and Legacy should be sued for creating such a blasphemous object. Personally, I agree.

Protecting a map is no different than placing a marine on the map, as I've already said. It does not violate anything. In either case, your quote refers to the program it self, not the map.

Understand that you have no rights to anything you make on StarEdit. None. If you want credit for your work, do something that gives you the copyright. If you want to create something fun with an easy and fast program, try StarCraft Campaign Editor.

Well you guys, I've pretty much said all that there is to say. My only wish is that some of you wouldn't attack me on a personal level only because I have a different opinion then you. Insulting my logic and intelligence were the minor ones, I liked Desperado's post the best, about how I alone apparently killed map making years ago.

I've always been a crappy map maker and have never hidden that. My work in the DLDB is of usually very low quality compared to everyone else's and I think only one of my maps have ever been mainstream on battle.net. People like Bolt_Head and Tuxedo Templar had way more success then me, but I created this site for other people not so great at map making. I wanted to learn more about making websites then making maps, thats why it is actually the community that took most of the direction in finding new things.

Welp, I have some more communities to go destroy. I think some of the SENers have grown to such an immaturity and closed-mindedness level that they would personally attack someone with irrelevant points in order to win an argument. I do hope that moose or IP changes this soon.

Since I'm so good at destroying communities, its best I stop doing map nights and go do something else. So the rest of you can try make it happen, but it'll eventually die out like it did the last time.

You know where I'll be. Have nice lives everyone.
