It looks like your a slave to the masses. ouch.
I wonder when the unprotector will be released, I mean people now know its possible to do, so someone will eventually make it...
I found this particualry use ful..
When making your m=name in the map use more color marks than you have to like :
[ = Color red
[M[a[d[e[ [b[y[ [c[a[r[l[s[a[g[a[n
or use some of the wierd characters to they won't be looked for.
I found these useful to keep your name form being found.

Look to the right center in the minimap, says Crispie. Hardly noticable, so it doesnt interfere, yet you are able to see for sure who made the map. Id like to see someone hex that! awe yeah.

what did you use for that?
you realize there is a fog of war "editor" right?
oh i thought he used something else... my bad lol im really slow.. no sc does taht to ya ;p
The key is to have the lines for your letters be only 1X1 big. Its tricky with some letters though.
hmm how bout adding invisible characters to like a brief??? would that help
like have your name then lots of invisible characters so that the map stealer couldnt tell
He would still be able to search for them and be able to see them if he looked at the .chk file.
You know I think it would be better if you used more than 1 colour marker so it blends in more with everything else and make it even harder to edit. Still, there is no perfect protection. You could resize the map so it can't be openned in scxe or staredit, then place sprite units or whatever the trick was, then there are certain "sprites" that crash Starforge. Placing those have no effect on the map in-game. There's a lot more too...
You could do something like this, where every [ is, say, a red color marker.
[[[[N[[[[o[[[[z[[[[o[[[[m[[[[u[[[[
In-game it would just say Nozomu in red letters, but try searching a .chk for Nozomu and you'll turn up squat. Good idea, DK.
I was thinking of mixing it up with other colour markers.
Some people said that it was I who was spreading the paranoia ..... Now I think they are wrong...

Ideas on your ideas:
(E.G. original map by MindArchon (just a random from this thread))
(Sorry, I didn't read 2nd and 3rd page before posting)
>In Briefings, make your name appear as many times as you can.
The time used for replacing those in the HEX-editor is almost the same as the time for creating them...
>At the start of maps, do a trigger to put your name back in the mission objectives.
The answer is easy: "Replace ALL"
>Put your name in the terrain.
>Put your name in the fog of war.
>Draw your name with preplaced units/doodads/......
Isn't terrain the easiest thing to extract/import into protected maps, and edit in SE?
>Put your name on unit names.
... and place the units all over the visible terrain - one of the best ways to increase lags....
And, by the way, "Replace All", again
>Overlap everywhere you can.
Good idea, but please, PLEASE, TEST it hard to make it READABLE !!!!!
>Have a short battle.net name.
Hmmmm.... Do you want to change your B.net name?
>At the start of the map, use a create trigger to spell out your name.
It is probably the best idea, but if one extracts triggers, he can just disable that.
But I don't think he really can do that.
>Fit your name into the plot so a player would notice if it was replaced.
That might work... Really... but not flawless too
>The best way to stop map stealers is to put your name everywhere you can.
... is actually the worst idea, if you mean text, not terrain, etc. "Replace All" again.
>Another way is to put credits at the end of the game.
----"----
>Make a bound/defence/a.s.o. map's path to spell your name
Good, but really not very proffessional...
>[M[a[d[e[ [b[y[ [c[a[r[l[s[a[g[a[n
That is not too hard to notice
---------------------------------------------------------------------
How can the maps be hacked?
But how do the thieves look for the names?
1. "Replace All" "MindArchon" "Thief "
2. Find all occurances of some 2-4 middle letters, "nda" for example, and replace manually
3. Look for names through certain parts of CHK in HEX-editor.
4. Extract and import sections: Terrain+Fog-of-war, Preplaced-units, unit-stats... ; edit them in StarEdit/SCMdraft; import back.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
My ideas:
Thieves can't replace what they can't find:
---> Adding useless colorcodes between letters
<1>M<1><2><4><3><8><4><5><3><1>i<1><2><4><3><8><1>n<1><2><4><3><8><4><5><3><1>d.......
where <X> are colorcodes. Even here^^^ it's not easy to recognize the name....
---> Using forward & back tabs between every letter
(As I never used them, I won't give any examples or comments)
Thieves will quit if it's not much easier than unprotecting:
---> Probably the best way is to create units (E.G. burrowed zerglings) at specific locations to spell out your name.
---> "...changed text from strings to pictures..." Might be not a bad idea: try to create a cool colorfull portrait with your name, and add it to the briefing. (I never imported a portrait into a map, but it's possible)

Answering your posts
>If protecting against hex hackers is impossible, why protect at all?
Well, the first rule of computer sequrity is "EVERYTHING CAN BE HACKED". Only system can't be hacked is the one you can't interact with.
The only thing we can do is to make the hacker's life harder.
>"... Anyway if Darky releases his unprotector nothing of this will help."
And I possess an unprotector(section import/exporter) I downloaded from some of SC sites... And if a thief posesses one to, he'll have to waste MUCH time to unprotect, but then, nothing will really help....
>SI:"I know how to make almost - uncrackable protection... it just would be a pain to utilize."
????? I'd like to see that one........ No ideas what can it be ...

SI, share your wisdom with us, we crave knowledge
.
at some elapsed scen time its set to that and back =) evil huh
That is hot lisk. Thanks for the idea...Im gonna use that! That would definately be a pain to edit hex wise.
the idea is "change it to THAT for some time only" then the HEX0r wouldnt even know about that and there... own3d.
im using it alrdy
Yeah, really hard. The guy just searchs for "QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ" oh yeah I found it. Remove all the Qs changing them to spaces... ups, the map creator name gone
Don't actually use letters or numbers, use characters that the map stealer can't exactly type out easily... and make sure they are all different and not the same character.
well duh... abit more complicated. that was just a general show of how you might do it...
How is the map stealer even going to KNOW you put that in there? He won't.
if you keep spamming that in 'features' in 'map showoff' section =)
the map stealer must be desperately noob to try and steal a map that has all those features in it to protect the map :\
i can create more complex Lisk-arts given some time... want me to?
>at some elapsed scen time its set to that and back =) evil huh
"if u say that as this will no1 get wat you type i think :^()"
Do you mean: "If ElapsedScenarioTime is atLeast XXX, SetMissionObjectivesTo 'Created by Someone' " ???
If so, it is COMPLETELY USELESS! ("Replace All...")
