Wow man it's true. Scientology is a cult religeon but the fact that it has "science" in it, I thought it was based of all science theories but instead it replaced with many images of darkness....

Scientology seems like a smart, yet quite evil method, to avoid taxes, and swindle people out of their money. No evidence I've found so far suggests this is an actual religion, as religions are typically founded upon morals first, beliefs second. If anything, they are a cult, using America's Freedom of Religion laws to protect themselves. I refuse, however, to call such a thing a religion.

I thought that all atheists are the same: things happen randomly. If you think that every event has it's meaning, you must believe in God, or something else, like fate, energy from cosmos...

That is about as wrong as you can get. If we are talking about a god that allows you to do anything, then you have free will. To have free will requires randomness. Otherwise, the actions you make will always be predetermined.

Maybe you should refer to the fate thread.

I'm thinking most of us are old enough to come up with our own beliefs. If there is a god, I don't think that any of us would ever be able to comprehend just what that god is about. I'm sure there is something out there - what, I'm not exactly sure. As for mainstream Christianity and the such, I see too much hypocrisy to be able to believe it. Not only that, but there are just some ideas that feel wrong. You may say that I'm a spineless weasel for being agnostic, but I just don't want to claim that I know all the answers to the universe just because some pages tell me so.

I would classify it as a cult/mason-like group. Most of Europe treats the Church of Scientology with suspicion - it does not have religion status in the UK, Germany, France, Russia and some other countries. In Germany it is actively monitored by government agents and in France it is on its way to being banned altogether. In fact, Tom Cruise has been barred from ever having an audience granted to him by the major or council of Paris.

Hubbard has been quoted as saying something like 'If you want to make a lot of money, the best way is to start a religion.' His wife spent time in jail for her part in an attempt to infiltrate the IRS, as did other Scientologists. This isn't honest stuff at all.

Their belief system is quite frankly pathetic, and contradicts much scientific knowledge. Add to that the fact that they practise extortion and blackmail and I can come to the following conclusion:

Scientology = BS

Prove that was my original assertion...it wasn't and some things are random thats stupid thing to say...thus its obvious your post was stupid

If you can't even keep up with the things YOU say then this is ridiculous. Fine, if that's NOT what you said.. which it obviously was, then this doesn't even matter. The reason I said what I did is because it was extremely insulting of you to claim that someone would just happen to become a Christian or whatever randomly. No one in their right mind who, without being pushed in to doing so, would become a Christian. I've never seen it happen and it never will. The key word there of course is "right mind" since most elderly people suddenly convert to a religion like Christianity when they get older because they're starting to get worried about the whole burning in Hell thing. What if it's true! Pascal's wager in effect.

QUOTE
Nothing is random ? Wilhelm claims that things do happen randomly. And he is an atheist like you. Maybe you are just "sucking your "proofs" out of the finger" just to proove a person wrong, just because you failed to do so ?

Now, reading that was somewhat difficult since you can't manage to form a single coherent sentence, negating the seriousness of this discussion. First off, I never said I was an athiest. Secondly, there was nothing to prove wrong, I was simply restating facts that had already been said and then the PEOPLE WHO SAID THEM got pissed off and starting female doging about it. Third, nothing is random. It's called cause and effect. It is pretty much the most basic principle there is. Now, quantum physics seems to deny such a thing but at the macroscopic level general relativity still applies. Furthermore it has always been the intention of scientists to discover the Ultimate Theory of Everything which would combine Quantum Physics and General Relativity thus eliminating any supposed randomness. As Einstein said, "God does not play dice."

QUOTE
What kind of music do you listen to ? I listen to metal, hard rock and neo classical metal. If you listen to something else, try to proove your music better than my music. Convert me into...rap maybe ? Or something else ? It is impossible, if I am not predispositioned to it myself.

So tell me again, why are you trying to proove an opinion wrong ?

This is a very interesting series of questions. If you think about it, most of the things people "enjoy" they only enjoy because someone else has told them to. For example, think about the movie Sideways, the newest classic example of this phenomenon. In the movie, one of the main characters like the wine Pinot Noir. Now all of a sudden, Pinot Noir is America's fastest growing wine and everyone is talking about it. In this instance, everyone knows why they "like" it, it is because they saw the movie Sideways. But do they actually like the wine more than others? It's easier to just like what someone else tells you rather than find out for yourself what the right answer is. Almost everything is like this. Rap music especially. You will find that people under or around the age of 13 are "predisposed" as you call it to talk like a rapper. This is because this is what the media feeds them. The generations of today are generations raised on television and movies. These "opinions" people have are not opinions at all, they are the effects of clever marketing that is equivalent to brainwashing. It is not that you are predisposed to believe in God, it is that you are predisposed to believe something because someone else told you to and you are never going to listen to reason or even attempt to search for your own answers. Many athiests are the same way. They were raised that way, and they will never search for their own answers.

This is why it is so important for a person to understand the reasons behind his own actions. You must determine whether it is really what you want to believe or if it is what someone else wants you to believe. Will you be a slave to others or will you be your own, free person? My request of you is simple: don't choose to be a slave. It is as simple a decision as it gets. Open your eyes.

I feel free in the aspect of belief. Nobody told me to believe in God. Nobody, besides events and my perception of the world.

About marketing and 13 year old rapers. Do you think it is really that hard to "brainwash" a 13 year old with TV (He spends a lot of time looking at the screen).

If you start a policy about converting atheists (and aim it at people 30-40 years old) will you have the same result ?

From my experience trust is not something you should fear. I know plenty of people who don't completely trust heir significant other because they don't want to get hurt in the long run. If you both trust each other, it should be a risk that you do take.

That said, has she shown interest in this other guy's proposition? I mean usually every guy has a grlfriend who is wanted by another guy. Trust is key. If you know she wont take this other man up on his offer, then you're fine. But if you have your doubts, there is a lack of trust in the relationship and you need to talk to her about it.

As far as the thing with "Mel" goes, I believe you mainly feel guilty and that's why you seem pressured to be with her due to the kid. Let me tell you right now, it wont work. Relationships that are based on parents staying together for the kids never work. Stay out of it.

If you feel like you care for "Mel," on the other hand, then perhaps you should reevaluate your current relationship. Its not really about what you may want with "Mel," its more about what you don't want with your current relatioship. You can't be jealous of your girlfriend attracting attention from this male friend of hers while at the same time pondering about getting back together with "Mel." Obviously if you're jealous, you care for this girlfriend. Then again it could be lust, but you have to realize you can't have both of them.

I think you'd be happier with this current girlfriend. Statistically it wont work between you and "Mel."

About the ex-boyfriends, I hate my girlfriend's ex-boyfriends. I do know plenty of people who have a strong friendship with their exes, and it has nothing to do with their past per se. But it is still disconcerting to the current boyfriend and the jealousy ensues. There's nothing you can do about that. Its human nature to be jealous because of the past. Again it all goes back to trust. Do you trust that she'll stay with you or go back to this friend of hers or her ex-boyfriend? I still think you'd have a better shot of making it work with her instead of "Mel."

If any of that was previously said, my apologies. I tried to read the other responses and then my head exploded. And yu know when your head explodes, that usually means you have no brain or eyes which made it extremely diffiult to continue reading. Or continue typing for that matter... shifty.gif

This is not a chat room and the topic title certainly does not say "Do you believe in God/type up research and cite your sources!!"

If you're laboring more than 2 minutes (+30 seconds proofreading) typing up paragraphs of "reasoning", you don't need proof of your religion (or lack thereof); you need a life.

- Excel. (used that for my experience/level tree)
