I dont think this would be a good time to tell you that Trigger Viewer 1.07 supports viewing where every location is on the map.

I am thinking of adding "trigger viewer protection", so if the map is protected, trigger viewer will not open it, but then that takes away from the original purpose of this program.

DON'T RELEASE THAT FEATURE IN TRIGGER VIEWER 1.07!

The average rigger/mapstealer doesnt really wan't to copy EVERYTHING except the makers name onto a blank map. I personally see no point in mapstealing.

Yes someone can copy all of you triggers to steal your map. But I dont think anyone would go through all that trouble to copy everything in your map but your name when they could just do it on anohter map where they dont have to work very hard at all.

I can see how you dont want people to know your passwords, but i don't think the average joemapmaker should be deprived like that.
I respect red2blue alot but i think hes being alittle paranoid.

It would be nice if there could be a thing where you could veiw a map like you would normally in mapediter except you couldn't edit anything or save it, but it doesnt seem possible. you could still dream neh?

Then why the hell are you bashing it for?
If it's so easy that anyone with slight visual basic knowledge can make it in ten minutes...do it.
The clock is ticking, asshole.

I don't want people to know my passwords because it spoils the game. It's like when you join a game of sunken D, and every single person cheats. It ruins the game. After I work really hard on my RPG, I don't want anyone to say, "Ya, m.r.bob's RPG sucks, it's mad rigged you know." This is the kind of thing that an average Bneter would say if the "cheats" for my RPG became widly known.

I don't think viewer protection is necessary. Protection is for preserving credits on your map and preventing people from editing it and having people massively be forced to redownload those maps for absolutely no reason at all.

As a side note, I would like to say that this is a very useful program. I would like to congratulate MindArchon on it.

But I would also like to point out something. (I am not sure if this has been pointed out yet, but if it has I'm sorry I'm wasting your time. xD) This program basically takes the fun out of the whole "OMG TELL THE PASSWORD IF YOU BEAT THIS AND ILL RELEASE THE NEXT ONE"... And I do realize, however, that You can ask for a replay, but it DOES take the whole fun out of making a secret password.

Does anyone else have any concerns about this?

Its nothing nobody can not retrive through unprotection & hex editing.

Except this is more than 10x easier for people who don't understand protection.

Most games have a bunch of cheat codes with them. Think of this program as a cheat code. People have the option of being gay and using it, or they can be honest and earn the results.

Chances are, most of these people don't understand triggers either. You could also "hide" it by having many many triggers with the same comment but the password is only in one.

I didn't read this whole topic, but let's get over the common misconceptions:

• Protection does not remove location/comment/switch names. Compression does.
• There are still ways of protecting triggers, even from this program.
• Unit names are not removed.
• "Passwords" are not stored as strings. They are stored as values.

In my mind, the reason for this program is to remove the only reason for people to steal maps, "I want to know how the triggers work". Therefore removing all possible reasons for people to open protected maps.

I know Unit Names are not removed. I said that earlier. The only point of not including them was it would be easier for somebody to read "Marine" instead of "Barbarian"

Red2Blue is absolutely right, the issue he brought up about password systems is something that no one had the foresight to think about, and it's a big problem. Also Red2Blue is a jackass and I hate his guts. I am very passionate on the issue but the words I enjoy most are banned ;;

wth? Did I do something wrong? Did someone spoof me again?...

After this program had been released I could no longer add the "Secret Password" in my maps.

If someone wanted to learn how to create a trigger they could use their heads and actually try to learn and create it. If all else fails they could go to a site and ask the people how to make certain triggers. Hm I wonder where you could go to ask about trigger help. *cough*.

Im not paranoid... im just being on both sides of the issue. Everyone had said how great it was... so im stating the negative things.

btw, someone said something about cheating earlier.

Heh there it is. Okay firstly lemmie address this: Lets say you have this very diffcult game you are playing and you just can't defeat it. Well after giving up on the game, you suddenly find this "cheat code" (this program). Obviously you would cheat and use it to defeat the game.

Also, anyone who has a cheat to any game will definitely cheat, hands down. They would try it at least once. Come on you guys... I know you go on sites about your favorite games and search for as many cheats as possible and try them in the game. Come on... admit it. They aren't gay if they use it, they are curious to see what will happen or if id work.

Well applying it to this game, if people "cheat" and use this program to get the cheats, obviously they would find out about a few special things that the creator didn't intend to show to the gamers.

Look at Staredit for example. The creators didn't intend for us to find out about sprites or unused units. But hey, we "cheated" and looked at the coding for staredit and used our cheats to unlock these features. Are we all "gay" because we looked at the interworkings and cheated to get the unused units and sprites (via. starforge, scmdraft, x-tra editor)?

Lets say this program were like the built-in game cheats for starcraft. Eh? "Show me the money," "power overwhelming," the like. I know you have tried these at least once. Thats a lie if you haven't... Are we gay because we used these cheats?

Id hope not.

Humans are curious beings. If we have options, we will take them.

Some paths and options lead to bigger greater things. Some paths and options are secret or hidden and aren't intended to be seen.

Who does anything the honest way nowadays?

Stop making such a huge deal about passwords... seriously. Most battle.net users don't even bother going on the community sites...

Red2Blue, seriously, read the solution I gave you above your post.

You people take one minor flaw of a program and explode it into an epic battle of ethics and mapper rights... its a learning tool not a cheating program.

Wouldn't this ruin the concept of secret characters, quests and rewards along with the password system? o.O

If someone uses the trigger viewer to cheat a game somehow (find cheat codes, get game solutions, etc) they are just ruining their own fun, so it's not really your problem.

And, nobody is going to re-create a map one trigger at time (plus terain, units, sprites, sounds, etc.) That might just be the biggest waste of time ever.
Though they might find out how a certain system in the map works and use that, which is the point of the viewer, to learn triggers.

The point of the program and the website is to help someone understand or learn concepts surrounding triggers or trigger systems.

Umm, ya.
I withdraw my current possition as well. Just becuase you know where the locations are, that doesn't stop the code method descriped above from working.
As long as they can't change the name of the locations, maps can still have "passwords" in them.

Anyway, awsome program. I look forward to the next verson biggrin.gif

You can also stop bitching about "OMG THIS IS THE BEST PROGRAM I CAN STEAL TRIGGERS LOLOLO".

Protection:
[attachmentid=8608]
Becoming more famillear with the chk code, I have compressed and protected this map from the trigger viewer. There is one trigger that is owned by player 1, adding 100 ore and gas to all players. Open it in Starcraft and see the trigger at work, open it in the Trigger Viewer and watch it fail. The protection will work no matter how many triggers you have. PM if you want to know the exact protection method.
