I used to think about this all the time. I don't know why I ever stopped because I find it as a very serious matter. Now I, myself, am Atheist. I don't believe that there is an almighty being that created us. Everything must have an explanation. Before I get deep into this, (I don't want anyone to have to suffer that) my one belief for the universe is basically that everything revolves around you. If you believe something will happen enough, the universe will give you the option. Only if you believe it enough do you find that option. I have seen this "force" at work many times before, if one wants to sell another wants to buy. One other thing I don't believe is karma. Albert Einstein once said "If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed." I have to agree. "Fair" does not exist where it is often most needed. Does this help any?
