History has it that jesus did exist. Science doesn't prove it, but history does. It's a fact. Now the REAL question is whether jesus was a liar, the true savior, or just a lunatic.

Millenium I wouldn't figure you to be the religious type, what proof is there of jesus? I mean the bible isn't proof that could've been some crack pot who thought he was getting a message from god, but really was just crazy.

This girl said you had blind faith? In a negative or positive way?
That whole next paragraph doesn't make sense... you believe in Jesus but he doesn't have power and then there was evolution and we are in a fish bowl? Ummm okay.

Wrong-- definitely seven.

You simply do not know what you are talking about ;/.

Jesus existed and he was a real person. That doesn't mean that everything that he supposedly did, such as water into wine, etc. And that doesn't mean everything he preached about was true either.

Just the way people can portray and talk about him seem untrue sometimes.

Has it occured to anyone that the Bible could be a work of Historical Fiction?

BTW I don't think y'all read my first post so here it is.

and i cant trust what any of you say because you could all be lying and i have no way of absolutely knowing you are true!

Devilesk... many amateur philosophers have thought the same thing.

My own conclusion is that... yes, you really DON'T know if we, the rest of the world, are real, but there's always a mutual trust of our senses which should sooner or later help you stop thinking that.

If that doesn't help, you can always try jumping up and down and seeing if the 3-D world around you flicker (argue it's 4-D if you like... no, actually, don't). If they don't flicker, the world is real. If they are, you're probably in a computer game, on a computer with a REALLY outdated graphics card biggrin.gif .

I think the French will get us back for all those insults and we'll all die, and I'll be the leader along with SP.

You'll be the ones saying "We Surrenduer!" in a New Yorkian accent. tongue.gif

That's my theory.
I think that in 2014 the meteor is going to pass. Jesus will want those thousands of choclate Easter Bunnies he wanted, and he's going to not kill us all. Now the French, will.
But I've always remained to believe in the French, so if they came. Screw you guys.. tongue.gif

Ah, the classic "We're gonna die" arguement.

Okay, let's look at a few things. I am by no stretch of imagination an expert on this subject, so...yeah. Moving on.

I know that most people, religious or non-religious agree that there was a man named Jesus of Nazareth (Okay, I'm not the religious type, so my spelling will really suck on stuff like this). But then again, Jesus was said to be a really common name at that time too. What I personally belief in is this: Was he really alive once? Yeah. Probably a really nice guy too. He probably did help the poor. He was also probably very wise, and had answers to many things in life. Will he be resurrected? I say depend on your definition. I mean, there is a chance that somebody with his exact genetic code would be born (naturally, I am NOT implying that Science will try to clone him) again. Odds are this won't happen, but hey, anything goes in this world.

Now, moving onto the end of the world. Nuclear war? Probably not to the scale of the extinction of human kind, but still mass slaughter. But full-scale nuke war isn't going to happen, mainly because nobody on this world would want that. A few nukes here and there from terrorists and mentally imbalanced people, but nothing like a full-scale nuke war between China and the US would cause. Meteor from space? Very possible, and we've been lucky for the past could of million years. Odds are, we're going to get hit soon (like within the next few millenia). But I can't say what WOULD really happen, depends on a few factors - how much warning we have. If it's like less than 10 years, forget it, we're dead meat with current technology, but in the future...who knows? Dying because from us poisoning the enviroment? Er, can't comment on this. I (optimistically might I add) believe that technology will be able to eventually repair the enviroment when things really become dire. But that's just my belief. Call that my blind faith in human innovation.

Now, what about God? I think Arthur C. Clarke had a very good idea going in his Rama series. Note: Spoilers ahead. Highlight to read. Near the end of the series, it is revealed that God is...I guess a scientist, and that the "universe" is just one of the many that he set up as experiments. We are just experiments on a petri dish. He doesn't care if we - as humans - die or sin. Well, he cares in the sense that he has a failed experiment, but not as in "He going to save us" kind of thing.

Remember: "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Perhaps God was a being from some advance race and decided to help early human beings.

Spaceboy, what do you think about my theory that the Bible could be historical fiction?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SpaceBoy2000 on 2004-10-10 at 17:13:19
Okay, I think it might be possible. I think the most likely scenario is that parts of it is fictional, but some parts are probably real. That's just my blind belief, I follow the flawed logic of "it's too fantastic to be made up by a bunch of guys". Especially back then, where there wasn't a lot of writing too.

I do believe that Jesus probably existed, and that he was as wise and gentle as the Bible protrays him. But I don't believe that there is an all-powerful, all-seeing, all-caring God that watches over us.

There was an article I read on the internet, which discusses how in the Old Testament, God could've been some being with very advance technology. Things like how the Red Sea could've been seperated (very strong electro-magnetic charge could effect water, like the plastic comb bending water trick), and how some relics could be very high technology devices. I'll see if I can dig it up, I found it a few years ago.

Err...after 15 minutes of digging, here it is:

Report, edit, etc...Posted by PCFredZ on 2004-10-10 at 20:23:09
To be more specific, I think the Bible was a historical fiction which was very much like Aesop's Fables: they teach lessons (with humans instead of animals, implicating some facts instead of misleading lessons like "slow and steady wins the race"). However, since the ancient people had very little good literature, they cherished it like geeks do with Star Treks (e.g. an European, I think maybe German, radio station has recently announced they will be broadcasting in ALL languages, which they are expanding to include KLINGON). Long story short, somehow it got forgotten that the Bible was fiction and now we have billions worldwide worshipping a fake God?

Then again, humans need SOMETHING, SOMEONE to believe in.

Did the Bible evolve from the Jews' T'orah? Because if so, "God" may be simply the Jews' translation of a Persian religion when they were enslaved by Persia. Unlike other idiots (e.g. modern-day Americans), the Persians had this thing called "tolerance", which saved the Jews from being killed because of their different beliefs than the Persians.

If the end of the world comes, oh well.

If it doesn't for quite a while, we're all REALLY wasting time right now. On second thought, even if it ends tomorrow... we're still wasting time. mellow.gif

i think the world will end in 50-100 years because look how bad it is now...
We'll probably kill each other before jesus can return
and WHEN he does, he'll find nothing...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PCFredZ on 2004-10-15 at 16:12:45
It's actually unlikely that the world will end due to us humans. True, we've been fighting amongst ourselves for our entire history, but let me just put it this way: if one nation kills another, that nation itself is still going to be alive. Now, aliens are another matter...

CAUTION: Many stupid answers. I think the December 2010 / 2012 ones are pretty convincing; the X-Files said that that's the day Native Americans predicted we'll be invaded by aliens.

So what if the government wants to cover it up? We humans got along alright with developing technologies, if all fails we can always nuke the aliens. And if that fails, we should die anyway. In our history of developing those technologies we've killed our environment pretty bad. We'd probably kill ourselves sooner or later anyway.  ermm.gif

I am an Native American! I'm an Navajo Indian! Plus, Alot of ancient people who lived before us pedicted that the world will end on 2011 or 2012, Plus, If you have been watching the TV Series called, "Slightings" or "Unexplained Mysteries" They'll sometimes talk about that, Some ancient people from South America, they predicted when the Earth mine end but they weren't sure, They said the Earth mine end in 2011, I seen a corp Circle on TV showing the inner solar System, where it shows Mecury, Venus, Mars, and the Sun of couse, but there isn't any Earth showing though. Secentists believed that was an lied, Plus, my tribe predicted that the end by be destoried by an Comet or Asteroid. Not sure though. Legend says that an Native America village was wiped out by an Comet somewhere in Ariozna.

going back to the topic of jesus and reincarnation i highly doubt jesus will be reborn and if he was it would not be world news and would probably go down as a hoax now im not sure exactly how the story of jesus's birth goes but im preety sure if somelady says she is going to give birth to jesus or claims to be visited by angels people are going to do everything in there power to prove her wrong or make her appear crazy people hate everything that is stronger or wiser than them and will do anything to get an upper hand closedeyes.gif

lol, thats pretty funny. but we've only really seen zerg in 2d. could you imagine how scary a zerg alien would look like in REAL LIFE!?!?!?

anyways, armaggedon could happen soon!

if we have a magnetic reversal, a lot of ppl will die! it won't happen all at once, but in 1000 years we could all be dead!
