but as a attempt to convince you.. lets say you have a simple cannon def against zerglings, if you stack you can form up a blockade they have to walk around (strategy) or if you cant stack you just have to build up a ugly junk of cannons that shoot everywhere (less strategy)

Well, even if I CAN stack, I wouldn't. You make a maze with you buildings, and stick units (usually the cheapest ones, meaning marines usually) between the buildings. Granted, you can place buildings between them, but units like marines tend to...I guess the right term would be mess up the pathfinding of various units. In my experience at least.

wots with every1 and stacking? I dont think blizz will take away stacking, if they even see how many games have stacking on it.

stacking may also mean to put things on areas you cannot place it on, like to make maps. Im sure they wouldnt take it away.

By the way, whens it coming in how many weeks?

It would be nice if they threw in the Wc3 Clan feature system.

I believe they already have this (it's just it's worth censored.gif because it doesn't work). try using the "/c" switch.

QUOTE(StealthyDeath @ Jan 22 2005, 06:12 PM)
They only reason they updated StarEdit because they had to make it compatible with BW.  I doubt any other changes to the editor will ever happen in this or any future patches.

That is correct. Acording to http://www.battle.net/scc/faq/other.shtml , they won't be updating staredit any time soon.

Actually, you're wrong. Having a huge wall across to make zerglings go around is less strategical then placing your cannons in certain positions that would best hit those zerglings.

* The multiplayer chat screen will now show a preview of the map you will play on.
Hm. This will help in figuring out if it's the map that you're looking for, when they have names like Ò‹ØÌÐÉ©Ó.scx(oh so common).

* The creator of a private Battle.net game can now make the game public under the creator’s name in the multiplayer chat screen.
Can't see much use for this, but I remember wishing you could before...

* A Friends List will be added to the game to keep track of your friends on Battle.net.
WOOT! w00t.gif

* Friend mail will be added to the game to let you email members of your Friends List.
Personally, I don't give a censored.gif about this.

* A password-recovery and email-registration function will be added to allow you to recover your password via email.
Same with friend-mail.

* A minimap ping will be added to the game to allow you to ping a location on the map.
OMG YES! Now I can spam pings at people! Oh, ya, and it'll help to teach newbs where all the crap in a game is... Newb: "Where is stack?" Me: *ping*

* It will now be easier to set building rally points.
What...?

* We will include updated versions of three of the most popular ladder maps – Lost Temple, Dire Straits, and Rivalry – in order to better suit the newer style of ladder play.
Like I give a censored.gif .

What exactly does this mean? I've never played WC3 on B.net, so I wouldn't know much about those features. =\

Hmm... now that people have explained the "better rally point" feature, I think it's kind of good. (I always wanted to have units rally and auto-enter a bunker or a Dropship...)

God, I seriously hate the idea of where you can see the map before you play it. I think any map you play shouldnt show you what its going to be. What if you have been making a real good map for like a year or so? And you want people to experience all of the terrain in the game and Not see anything before? Ehh, they went overboard I think.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-01-23 at 13:59:54
Perhaps there will be an option for the hoster to not show the map. Then atleast it isn't shown the forst time round. NAd it's hard to plan strategies on a map after seeing a minimap picture for a couple seconds. You have to go to it quick, or it'll be full and yuor planning and putting your eyes in the screen would have been a waste.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Voyager7456(MM) on 2005-01-23 at 16:39:21
Not to mention it's alittle hard to get too much out of just a minimap picture without playing the game itself... Everything's so small, so most of the details are indistinguishable...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-01-23 at 16:59:42
But you can sometimes see stupid maps (ie, defense maps with the same damn terrain and format) and so on that you don't want to play.

I'm sure there will be a way to disable minimap pics from showing up on your map.

You know how when you click on someone's name in the screen where people dl maps it gives you the options "Open", "Close", and "Ban"? Well if you're the host of a private game you can click on your name and it will allow you to make it public, and vice versa.

For the last time! IF IT'S EXACTLY LIKE WARCRAFT III (Which it probably is), THEN IT WILL NOT BE A MINIMAP PICTURE, IT WILL BE A PICTURE YOU CHOOSE! THUS NOT GIVING YOU ANY SECRETS TO A MAP!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SI on 2005-01-23 at 19:21:40
minimap picture will probably be dynamicly generated from the map since everything else would require staredit change and would disable all previous maps

Thats what I was thinking. But I'm sure theres a way to corrupt the minimap output so it displays nothing.

Although, a predefined image would be cool.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by LegacyWeapon on 2005-01-23 at 20:51:20
I'm pretty sure protecting the map will mess up the game from displaying the minimap previews directly from the map. I mean try using that minimap maker hosted in the DLDB on a protected map!

DK, it is not a picture you choose, you only have 2 options.
1) Show the minimap
2) Don't

People figured out from the map that is compressed with the same mpq compression style as sc maps has a generated image of the minimap and people replace it when they make their maps.

It will be displayed in the 'Create Game' screen, right? Then why is everyone complaining that it'll ruin game-play? Just don't look!
If it's displayed in the 'Game Lobby' thing... That would runi alot of maps, and I agree with what you're saying.

it doesn;t stacking has no startagy, it fun for some games like stacked defence games UMS not melle, if there was stacking in melle it think it would ruin the game

A Friends List will be added to the game to keep track of your friends on Battle.net.

A minimap ping will be added to the game to allow you to ping a location on the map.

The friends list thing, does that mean like on some games where you click a button and a new windows or something appears, like the profiles that we have now.

and the minimap ping. will that be "To allies" "All players" "specific player(say, your planning to backstab)" "games with no players and just ai/neutral" etc. will spamming with it create lag or will it be limited to "max map pings per minute".

i'll be funny if you cant chose who sees it, and what if u get someone ur team that does it over and over, you'd get sick wouldnt you.

Also would you choose the ping on the minimap or on the screen infront of you.

Anyone planning to start a 1.11 a/b(i duno what we're on now) realm/mod for playrs who think its a disaster like the 1.09 to 1.10 on diablo2(easy to guess where i stand on that matter).

Also, what is GUI?

Uhm there is an intesting atricle on starcraft.org about this patch drawing ppl back to stacraft before ghost comes out. Oh and the starcraft compendium(BW) hasnt been updated biggrin.gif.

ADDITION:
If its a minimap pic includeing units, u can cover it with BC's and then hyper remove them? Also when is blizzard going to address the porn on battle.net issue, what do they do on WC3 when ppl chose porn pics, asuming i understand correctly what u mean. I bet you could sue them for Publicising pornagraphic pictures, i mean i came across an awful on called sexy pic 40 SE or something.... well my finger went to the tab key faster than it ever has before... i admid there will be gay(male) ppl and women on starcraft but i doubt they'd be intrested either in whats on it. Anyone else know this map?

I surpose you could sayit was my own fault, and anyone that sue for joining the game... but what about parents that let their kids play. This could be bad for blizzard.

Would you sue blizzard if it risked bring b.net down permanatly? I know i wouldnt.

# The multiplayer chat screen will now show a preview of the map you will play on.

This preview, as opposed to what the REMOVED Deathknight keeps trying to say, is a preview of the map. That REMOVED has been saying that if it's like WC3, then it will be a user chosen picture. Ironically, that's not even true. The preview in WC3 requires you to DL the map, and then it shows you a preview of the terrain. I'm guessing it may be possible to crash people by having them see the preview.. which is very bad. However, as for the preview "ruining" the game, this is not a problem. The preview is too small to do such a thing.

I don't exactly understand this, does anyone else think they know what this means?

QUOTE
# A Friends List will be added to the game to keep track of your friends on Battle.net.

I think this means they are adding a Graphical User Interface (GUI) friends list like they have in WC3. Basically, there are some tabs, "Channel", "Friends", "Clan" in WC3. I don't know if they are adding a sort of Clan thing to SC but I assume they will at least have the Channel and Friends tabs.

Same thing they added to D2 and have in WC3.

I think this means that you can choose if you want the game to be displayed in the 'Games' list, or not.

I've been waiting for Blizzard to make the mail command work...

Hopefully all these new features draw people back to SC.

Yoshi doesn't take rule abuse. (Gogogogo Yoshi)

I'm am actually guessing (relying on him actually) that Nuke or other hex0rz will find some "Mini map in lobby: 0001" "Change this to Minimap in lobby: 0000"

Or something.
