QUOTE(Kellimus @ Jan 16 2006, 09:58 PM)
Everyone here speaks about not flaming, yet they all do it themselves.

I want the spam and flame to leave.  I remember the old SEN when Yoshi was here.  People were suspended left and right.

I see no one being suspended now.

This is precisely your problem. You're half the cause of all the spamming and flaming. Whatever innocence you claim, people still take offense from your remarks.

Suspended left and right? I have no such memory. Yoshi was never a Nazi mod; he was always very fair and considerate.

Funny, you wish to see suspensions, and yet when I take action against all this "spam and flame", you say "OMFG ITS BAISED!!".

I'm "causing all this spam and flame" when I don't even post in Null, where it's all at?!

That's funny.

And by you moving Euro's Police State, and saying, "You can't possibly believe this is serious" or however you stated it, is not biased, then what is?

You didn't even give it a chance to SEE if it would be a serious discussion or not. You moved it to NULL where it got destroyed by the people who can't even hold a valid arguement!

NOW can you see why it angers me so much? The fact you just automatically assumed it wouldn't be serious. Well, you destroyed the seriousness of it by moving it to Null, where most the serious people, are not.

Not all flames come from the firey depths of null. It originates wherever the flamer goes...

Many people are serious at null... (ignore the games of course and those polls on whither ashe or yuna is hotter) and you have somewhat serious topics.

Not when the people cannot hold a valid arguement.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Red2Blue on 2006-01-17 at 05:16:53
Most of the people there in null post in serious discussions as well.
Its just a select few who cannot make correct posts... like me.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-01-17 at 05:18:36
But once something Serious goes from serious to null, they throw it away, thus leaving it for the inaine to mess with it.

I think the present moderation system and number of mods is adequate. I know I'm not usually on when the trouble starts (because I'm in a different time zone), but it helps to have 'safety net' mods like me who can clear up anything the other mods have missed.

Usually when I look at the reports in my inbox, they've already been dealt with, which means that the moderation team is doing its job effectively. Remember that we don't always act on a report however; we use our discretion so as not to be unfair on someone who might not have been flaming but was reported as doing so, for example.

Personally, I don't think that the flaming/spamming situation on SEN is too bad, although it was becoming uncontrollable before Moose decided to hire a bunch of new staff a few months back. I might be too used to GameFAQs where standards of posting are extremely low, but SEN is by no means a serious forum. The majority of members are under 16 and their opinions on issues are often extreme and/or undeveloped, showing a certain hot-headedness. If I decided to start moderating SEN like I'd moderate TSR, for example, a large number of members would end up suspended pretty quickly. Myself and some of the others are lenient, but only because getting much stricter would tip a lot of the members who are 'on the fence' out of the site.

If people would like us to get stricter, then we should have a poll.

At the moment we have a few antagonistic members who wind each other up all the time - at least one of them would be suspended (of this I'm pretty sure) or banned if the strictness level was to increase.

Look at it in context. It is clear when something is meant as an insult.

if "stupid retard" meant "prodigy" in language X, then you would tell the difference in usage between say,

Omfg you so cool you stupid retard!

and

You're such a stupid retard, stop posting now.

All in context.

Not if in language X 'stop' meant 'start' and 'cool' meant 'ugly' wink.gif.
You simply can't use that logic in arguements. You stick with the language currently in use (I have no idea how I got to saying that and where it originated ermm.gif).

Well, kellimus, when you do post, it's very often insulting.
Oh, and I think now that Kellimus doesn't have 'greenies/whities/greyies = noobs = babies' in his sig it's fine for him to start saying it again. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree that SEN needs to be stricter, but there is one problem with that. A few of the now popular and good members started out as idiots on SEN (including me, to a lesser extent then some others, though). This might get them banned of SEN before they understand everything.

No, it isn't right because he still means greenies/whities/greyies or whatever = noobs.

That's all just part of maturity.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-01-17 at 16:14:05
And some become mature later then others. Or maybe SEN taught them the folly of their ways.

I have a question.
Why wasn't Kellimus banned after reaching 100% two times?
I'm not suggesting anything I just want to know.

Why hasen't Devilesk been banned when he has reached 100% more times than I have??

My point exactly.

That's a good question, but it doesn't answer the question I asked.

I don't really think that's any of your business. Not to mention horribly off topic.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-01-18 at 15:03:07
The last 3+ pages have been horribly off topic with the occasionally decent post.
Just so that this particular post won't be considered spam:

It depends on what your expectations are for SEN if we need more moderators or not.
Some people say a thread can be spam a few days before it gets noticed; others say it has to be locked in a few hours. Of course if you think that everything now is terrible with spam everywhere, you would think that we need more, and if it looks fine, we need no more.

I think SEN is decent, not having a lot of spam, though occasionally something stays there for a while before being closed (like the nuclearrabbit thread). I think a few extra moderators wouldn't hurt; mainly in the NULL and Lite Discussion forums, and maybe an extra one in Map Making Help.

I don't see the harm in "promoting" more members to moderator, if they deserve it. I can only see an upside.
And I'll be honest, I want to moderate, but that isn't why I think we should have more moderators.

If someone posted spam, it gives you no right or priviledge for you to psot spam again.

We don't put moderators because someone just deserves it, we put them because we need them. We aren't asking wether you want to moderate or not, and you've said that an incredible number of times already. If we select a moderator, I'm sure it won't be you.

Everyone just stop saying that they want or are willing to be mods.

I was just defending myself. I was expressing concern that I have been singled out.

Maybe lock the topic? I think the issue was solved; administrators think none are needed.

I've said it 2-3 times. I was doing more along the lines of explaining myself, rather than asking for a position.
And just for fun? Why wouldn't it be me? smile.gif
From what I've heard from you, the amount of time you've been on the site does not matter. Am I that bad? -_-
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Golden-Fist on 2006-01-18 at 18:26:09
Dorkhawk you are not going to be a mod just for asking more than once. Stop asking why.
As future notice if you want to be a mod, DON'T ASK. Don't start saying who isn't doing as well as a job as you could, or why you could be a mod. THEY, DON'T, CARE. I've said this before, you don't decide if you're mod material or not, get over it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathawk on 2006-01-18 at 18:29:46
I had no intention of asking for a position, read my post numbsy.
I want to know why would I not be a good mod.
