The first one was okay, but it really built up the comedy in the second one. Lol.

Definitely the funniest comic I've seen so far. Are you a professional comic artist? It sure seems like it.

I was extending my thoughts on how his comics are really good. Course I don't honestly think he's a professional cartoonist.

To answer your question though... I wouldn't say I'm a professional. I don't have any syndicated strips out there or anything, but I have done A LOT of comics in the last 8 or so years. I haven't had any formal training (unless one semester of art class counts), I'm mostly self-taught. However, I have done work for other people and have gotten paid for it (not much, though). I've done storyboards for a few of the short films shot around here. When I was 17, I made a little full color graphic novel out of an excerpt of another guy's novel (at his request). It took about a year to do and the jerk never paid me. I was young and foolish, though. Nowadays, I have very tight control over all my work that I feel needs to be protected. I've also done brochure artwork for the University of Oklahoma a few times (they always pay me). In fact, I'm working on one of those right now.

If you add up all of the storyboards I've done, as well as the graphic novel, and all of my original comics and gag strips, then I've done about 1,400 - 1,500 pages of comics material in the last 8 or 9 years (most of which before my son was born, understandably). I can at least say I've got some experience.

Currently I am the only film student at my school to attempt an animated short film. It'll be about 15 minutes long. I've been drawing the movie (animation, backgrounds, special effects, ALL of it) solo for the last 2 years and it should be done in a few more months. I refuse to use any type of flash animation of 3D modeling, cuz I feel like those are ways to cheat. My idea, my script, my characters, my work. Since it's my capstone project and it will be due in May, I'm really starting to feel the pressure.

I do NOT recommend anyone try to do a movie solo like that. It's a monstrous task and the only reason I've gotten so far is that I was too stupid (and cocky) to know what I was getting into when I started it.

Enough about me, let's get back to the SEN comics!

It depends Doodan, an animated film can also vary by what type of tablet or screen you're using. If you are using one of those high-quality touch screens that cost about $3,000, then the rate you animate will probably be much faster. Of course, if you had a ridiculously time-consuming style, like how mine can be at times, then it wouldn't matter much on what tablet or screen is chosen.

I don't have one of those tablets. It's all done on paper and I scan them into my computer and I polish and color them in photoshop. I've thought about getting one of those cool tablets, though.

No wonder why it's taking you so long then, that's got to slow you down by a couple months.

I don't know much about those tablets, but one way paper has a big advantage is that it helps me draw the inbetween frames. For instance, say I have two keyframes (I'm sure you know what those are), I will take the 2 keys and hold a third sheet of paper against them and then look at all three through a bright light. I then sketch the new frame inbetween the movements of the two keys (and I continue doing this in between each pair of frames until the movement is as smooth as I want it).

Hopefully, those tablets have a way to superimpose two or more frames behind the blank one. That could be handy, but since production is nearing it's end, the time it would take me to get used to a tablet would probably be the same as it would take to finish it the way I'm doing it now. But if it really is that much easier, then I may just go ahead and learn how to use one if I decide I want to animate something again.

When I get a new idea. Unless I'm under some kind of deadline, I don't push myself to come up with new stories when I don't have any in mind. When I do push it, they don't tend to be as good. The Lurker idea just hit me one day, I'm sure another will come along sooner or later. tongue.gif
