Meh, in wc3 what you do is inject the minimap image into the map which replaces the file in the MPQ

If it works like ti does in wc3 that means that we can essentually have "modded maps" with edited sprites, unit stats, ice scripts etc

Well DK did take his brawl to me directly. *sigh* I hate being right all the time. As it turns out, yep, I am. His example of a map that doesn't show the terrain as a minimap preview is one of Blizzard's custom scenario maps. Unfortunately, the regular editor we were given with WC3 doesn't have such a feature, only Blizzard is capable of making a map on WC3 where the preview isn't the terrain. The rest of the time... yep, 100% of the time it's always the terrain.

UGH... UGH.... *screaming obsceneties* I think I just figured out what this means. In WC3, you can't put a password on your games. You can only make it so they don't show up in the games list or not. Therefore anyone can /whereis you and join your game even if you don't want them to. And with the hacks available, even if you ban them, you can't keep them out. Basically this means it's not possible to have private games.

Oh boy! I just sent Salacious yet another example, but of a non-blizzard map! Is Salacious right!? I doubt it so very much!

A little bit of info on the Easier Rally Points.

Instead of having to click on the rally point button or hotkey it and then place it, you would just right click the point where you want it to be rallied and thats it.

You're crossing that line again. I'm not going to verbally warn you again.

You may be clan (U), but you're also still just another member on this site, and you get no special priveledges. Our rules apply.

Salacious, admit defeat before you make any more mistakes.
An image is imported into the map(mpq file). Now if the file is there, WC3 will read it and display it. If it isn't, then it will display the map terrain.

Now to answer for what Salacious is making a huge deal about: This was not about Warcraft Map Editors, it was about displaying images instead of terrain.

Since when does everyone go back to original editors anyway? If there are better editors than Blizzard's, then people generally use them. Blizzard would not have to make any changes to the editor, they could just make Starcraft read the image file.

Now to sum it up,
Warcraft III can read custom images imported by the user. Now if Starcraft uses the same method, users will be able to choose the image they want displayed.

And to clear confusion, was I talking about an original editor being able to do this? No. I was talking in general. All that is needed is an MPQ editor.

Isn't that the way it's always worked? At least it has on Mac...
Anyways... the map preview will probably work from inside SC, and just generate a ghetto image of the terrain from the MTXM section of the CHK.

Awww... That's it about the rally point? I was hoping it would be a lot more like WarCraft III. Where you can target it on units and the units that are created attack to that location instead of just moving there. That sucks Blizzard balls.

its just a .blp file in the mpq

Maybe blizzard will make blp files for SC too, and if one isn't found, it'll dynamically generate the image, or put a question mark.

New patch... may cause problems for the mod/add-on pack I spent so much time working on recently pinch.gif Nice to see blizzard still suports SC1... but I think it long over due for SC2 (What would you rather play: SC Ghost or StarCraft 2? no contest)

If they are going to upgrade the game, they better upgrade the editor. The most important thing to upgrade would be introducing a create-a-unit feature. Next, I would like sounds to use mp3s or midis... wavs was a poorly thought out idea. I also find that having ramps that can only go down to right or left is annoying... ramps that go up to left or right would be awesome... Other than that, SC is perfect.

I do like change so whatever happens, I'll be satisfied.

I highly doubt they'll change the editor, if they did... all extra editors would need to be updated. The create-a-unit feature... There already is one, it's called 'Create Units'. The ramps idea is one I've noticed myself, too. SC isn't perfect... it crashes too much, Lol. wink.gif

Don't even get me started.. Thats an arguement that has gone on for far too long. It isn't rigged for any race, thats whats so great about StarCraft, how just about every melee map is equal for all sides.

If this is true and this is how blizzard will do it, it will also mean that it would be possivle to import other files into the map, such as custom arr. data ,ice scripts, sprites etc

I've heard that the patch will come out Tuesday. But it could be just a rumor.

I also found this on Blizzard's forums:

So that could mean other big updates as well...

Its not like theyre adding new units or sounds, or anything majorly innovative. And its Starcraft, so comparing it to WCIII is just a waste of breath.
