Actually, If you were going to extract a unit from a .GRP, Like a wraith.

You can make the unit move around useing the next button, You can count only 16 turns the unit makes.

Ya, its only the right side. A whole circle is 360 degrees. Although its 360, you can do the 180 degrees which actually is the 17 frames on the right. If you double that, you got your full circle, 360 degrees. Maybe I didn't explain it well but thats the way it works. Thanks BSTRhino.

Actually i knew this. Blizzard made all the models in high poly 1500+ polygons. (ill show you a high poly valkry soon.)Then did what Aikainaro said. They just took shots of all the dricections. Actual model files would have been better but at the time computers couldnt handle such things. I wish we could still dl the full polys from somewhere.(make pr much faster) Pr isnt for starcraft its for warcraft3

Ok guys, this is a straight fact from modding. I have tried to show you why it was that way but I am not going as far as to research references showing a unit walking in every direction because you do not believe me. Ask any 3d modeller who has applied units to their mod.

I am not making this up, this is the way it is. The degrees I showed you at the start..They are the ones used to get all the directions right. I am a 3d modeller myself and I am telling you its this way.

Yes I know Pr is for Warcraft 3. The mod is basicly Starcraft, I should've maybe mentioned warcraft 3 but seeing as you already knew about the mod, I didn't see any need to.

Centorian Made The Valkyrie =). Hes a very good 3d modeller.

I'm already doing iscripting and memeory patching. Both are discribed as very hard jobs.
I don't think I have the time necisary to do pictures to. Anyway, I only have photoshop on my slow computer, and it's laggy because of that.
Does anyone know any good and free image editing programs? (I'm looking for ones much better then paint and such).

O by the way, I would enter the team if I was as crazy to be on 2 teams at a time. I recently joined an other team as a 3d modeller.

I quit the moddeling scene sometime ago but i can do it. I use free program called blender. Well anyway do you guys like the valkrie?? its a very good model file. It looks as if it was skinned and its not. Cant wait to see the final of it.

I have entered the Mod team "Starcraft: Reclamation". The team lost many team members, practically everyone left. Around a month ago, someone took over as leader and started asking for people's help. I was one of those interested in helping this mod. Currently, there are many new staff members including me. I know about the program blender, its an open source program. Its also as capable as Maya or 3d studio max. Its a very good program, I heard alot about it from blender users.

Its a mod that continues Broodwar. Adds new buildings/units and a whole new storyline starting from the end of Bw. A campaign will be made aswell and possibly a new load screen with new victory/defeat screens of Protoss/Zerg/Terran. We are gonna try to change as much as we possibly can.

You said that each unit had 17 directions; that is what confused me. That's wrong, apperently, each unit has 32 directions.


Does this apply for all units? Are you sure rines have that many directions?

Each unit has 16 directional sprites. Starcraft flips them to create 16 more for walking the opposite directions.

You all really know your stuff...we can't start anything until we get more graphics people. So, I ask all of you (save m.r. bob who HAS a good reason) this:

Why have you not auditioned for the team? I hope it's not because yoy think you don't have what it takes...I think you've all proven you know what you're talking about. So...what's the deal? Slow comps? Not used to the software? I think the slow comp part can be ignored becuase you don't need a top-of-the-line comp to play starcraft, so you shouldn't need one to edit it.

As for any inexpirence with graphical editing programs, I've been hearing a lot about photoshop and stuff like that...I'm sure their are comparable programs.

But to be honest, I'd just like to know why we have people who know how to manipulate the not-so-easy field of SC graphical designing not auditioning to join the modding team...

Ok ok....They do have 32 directions, I agree. But the fact is..17 are created and the rest are mirrored. Let me explain because this might not make much sense to you. I will create something in 3d studio max soon that will maybe give a better understanding of what this is all about. Hope it clears a few things.

Edit: Alright..look at the picture. Do you see where I marked the 0? Now follow that around the lighter gray part down to the 180( All the black lines). These make 17 directions. When you make the directional views for the units..You make those 17 views. When you mirror those views, you exclude the top and bottom. So you practically mirror 15 views to the left side. Those make a total of 32 views. When you do make 2d pictures of your units, the degrees I mentioned earlier are the ones needed to get the directions from the top to the bottom right (17 views). So its basicly 15 views on both sides with top and bottom. The difference is that when you do the directional pics for your unit, you make the 17 and you mirror it except for the top and bottom ones.

Nice picture. Just in case anyone gets confused, the black lines are the directions for which starcraft has a frame. The yellow lines are the directions for which starcraft uses a mirrored frame.

ADDITION:
Lets stop talking about starcraft frames (kinda pointless converstaion anyway) and ask some more important questions.
Such as:
Isn't DTBK supposed to get back from DC today?
Where the hell is Slyence?

....So, basically, while we have the majority of the people we need to actually work on making mods with...our admin. people have just decided to take vacations and leave us in limbo. Nice.

Well, I guess we should, at the very least, try to come up with some ideas so that when they get back, at least they can see that we kinda joined up to work on something, not sit on our asses....
