No. It was just a saying.
Corruption may exist in the US, but the democratic system has still kept running after all these years...
Like Jimmy Carter once said, the problem probably lies within the attitudes of Americans themselves, instead of government not doing its job...
How can we kill that attitude? By being a superpatriotist and not being a selfish bastage.
Ehh.. and why would we be super-duper-uber patriots? Think, for a moment, what is currently happening in America. Connect the dots.

So far the american representative democracy has been running for about 230 years. It was designed to replace a monarchy system which ran for something like 1000 years. So at the time, you could have said the same thing about the monarchy. And you can also go on saying the same thing about representative democracy until something better comes along. The way I see it, hailing the current system does nothing to fix it if its broken.
Monarchy was pretty broken too. Not alot of single governments lasted 230 years.
Monarchy as a whole still lasted longer than representative democracy has. Also, most kings and queens reigned for probably something like 20 or 30 years, whereas in many representative democracies (including the United States), individual parties usually last for significantly shorter than that. I think so far monarchy still beats representative democracy in terms of longevity.

A broken education system passes people into moderately decent jobs without ever requiring them to develop any kind of higher thinking processes.[/color]

As long as they can get the job done, why should the have to develp this "higher thinking process"?
