Cloning animals other than humans, sure I guess. I really have no opinion on that.

But cloning Humans... no. And I've explained my reasons in past threads.

Research advances over the past decade have told us that, with a little work, we humans can clone just about anything we want, from frogs to monkeys and probably even ourselves...

1. Cloning for medical purposes:
Of all the reasons, cloning for medical purposes has the most potential to benefit large numbers of people. How might cloning be used in medicine?

2. Cloning animal models of disease:
Much of what researchers learn about human disease comes from studying animal models such as mice. Often, animal models are genetically engineered to carry disease-causing mutations in their genes. Creating these transgenic animals is a time-intensive process that requires trial-and-error and several generations of breeding. Cloning technologies might reduce the time needed to make a transgenic animal model, and the result would be a population of genetically identical animals for study.

3. Cloning stem cells for research:
Stem cells are the body's building blocks, responsible for developing, maintaining and repairing the body throughout life. As a result, they might be used to repair damaged or diseased organs and tissues. Researchers are currently looking toward cloning as a way to create genetically defined human stem cells for research and medical purposes. To see how this is done, see Creating Stem Cells for Research, a component of the Stem Cells in the Spotlight module.

4. "Pharming" for drug production:
Farm animals such as cows, sheep and goats are currently being genetically engineered to produce drugs or proteins that are useful in medicine. Just like creating animal models of disease, cloning might be a faster way to produce large herds of genetically engineered animals. Find out more about this research in the feature article Pharming for Farmaceuticals.

5. Reproducing a Deceased Pet:
No joke! If you really wanted to, and if you had enough money, you could clone your beloved family cat. At least one biotechnology company in the United States offers cat cloning services for the privileged and bereaved, and they are now working to clone dogs. But don't assume that your cloned kitty will be exactly the same as the one you know and love. Why not? See Cloning Myths.

Lol, I was gonna do that one. No, I'm not.

The person below me was confused by my statement (see above)

Fully cloning a human to the point of it being of perfection, meaning that it's exactly like a normal human being, is far from the reach of our hands. There are so many things that can go wrong, that currently, it's just not possible.

But in our current age, clonning tissues and organs is an extremely good idea. Imagine that all the patients that are waiting for donations could have any organ, any tissue transplanted for them. All that is needed is a sample, probably from himself(which is better) or from a relative.

All that would be needed is a little bit of time, probably a month or two when the cloning is perfected, and then oh so many lives would be saved.

Didn't necessarily read everything, don't have an hour of free time right now. I skimmed it, and I've heard everything stated in there before. The same simple statements are repeated soo much. I've heard it on the news, on the internet, newspapers, etc.

Of course! I'm top ten!

You must remember that this is in 2002, so most likely if you heard it afterwards, it was from here. I mean, a lot of the media is HIGHLY influenced by the government which is not a requirement but is an essential asset to a police state. Recently I heard that the Iraqi's love the coalition and our cause... but then why would crowds cheer and throw stones when a helicopter is shot down?

Do you believe in GOD?

This may be a very touchy subject for some, but as most people on SEN are young, there is really no way someone could be offended from this question. I was just wondering what discussions could come up on this, because I believe in Evolution, and just wanted to here other people takes on it. I believe in Evolution because I look at the facts of science and I dont believe myths.

Another view on it. If people say GOD saves us. Where the hell was god when the World Trade Centers were ran into, where is he when the war is going on in Iraq, and any other big issue in the world. Then some people say that god protects us. Well last Hurricane Season was a bad one and I dont think he is doing a great job of protection.

Just wanted to see others points of view!

James Bond games show cloning how it isnt really suppose to be, they got me to thinking that cloning was boom clone of the 6 foot man instantly, but it isnt really like that, you gotta wait the years for the clone in baby life to reach the exact replica of the thing that was cloned. I dont understand why people would want to clone except for the fact as humans we have the abilty to do so. Like really is there any other reason to clone other than military purposes?

And to create a clone of someone, it is a different mind with a different reaction to everything, so for military you would be sending them into a situation they would not be ready for. Cloning is a cool thought but it kinda has no point to it!

Thanks for Wikipediaing, and trying to make us all believe you came up with this on your own smile.gif

Anyways.

The only reason cloning should be allowed, is to clone things that are needed. For example:

Someone needs a heart. They have a certain blood type that is pretty rare, and no one can find a heart anywhere. So go find someone with that blood type, clone their heart, and save the person.

That's my opinion. There is no right or wrong.

The cloning takes a long time, the person has to be old enough to support a clone too!

Yes the Godproof.. Thread.. But well I am religious I am a bit offended but not like im gonna buy some dynamite and run into a building lol..

And you misunderstand the protection part a bit and the saving, read the bible.

Cloning can virtually be done with any human of any age. All you need to start is a sample of healthy cells capable of surviving the cloning process.

Theoretically, it is possibly to clone an embryo that hasn't even been born yet.

No, I don't.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2006-05-06 at 15:15:32
I believe in God, but not the church.

My reasons for this is mainly because the church is run by men, which in turn make many errors during their administration of the church and it's doctrines. It seems impossible to me that the church can change it's doctrines at will and decide what's sin and what's not. That why my church is the Bible, and at some points, I find it to be outdated for the standards of today's society. But I still believe in God, Jesus and a lot of aspects of the Bible.

God has no place in my life right now. If he exists good for him. If he doesn't then f*ck if I care.

Over half the people here don't support human cloning, just organ and tissue cloning...

Also, it is logically possible to stop marijuana and cocaine from reaching the US, it is possible to conquer the world, just that nobody has achieved it yet.

The world is perfect. It perfectly obeys all laws of physics and chemistry.
