TblPad requires Visual Basic 4 runtime files and Runtime Files Pack 1.

If you use other programs by ShadowFlare, chances are high you have both of them installed already.

Hay Kruser you might want to change the tools required for modding section.

Change the Arsanal III to datedit. Arsenal III is able to make mods but they crash in like 3 minutes.

Also you can still leave Retrogrp there but also another a new kind of grp converter has been made.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ojan on 2006-10-07 at 11:15:21
And change the title of the topic. You make mods, you don't write them.

WRONG. Your still "rewriting" the command scripts and other bases of a mod.

No, you're just making new data to feed to the executable.

Well, I do agree that you can write an Iscript-mod (the Iscript part in the modding process anyway), but you don't write TCs with lots of graphical changes. You make mods in DatEdit, unless you write it by hand in a hex editor. So you make mods in almost all of the cases.

16. Add vulture.grp to the file list. For the prompt, type unit\terran\.
what file list??

You don't write a story, then pen does. See my point?

This might sound advance to most begginers (example,me) but why not also put in this thread how to change grps rather then the vulture one like changing the color of attacks or the color of the units jets.

You know, you should change this a little, and add some instructions for MPQ Compactor because I got lost towards the end of some of those.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2006-10-18 at 17:10:04
Why aren't you using WinMPQ? The later chapters omit the WinMPQ instructions because they are the same as those in previous chapters. If in doubt, just refer back to them.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by robot_spider on 2006-10-21 at 19:16:07
I use WinMPQ as much as I need, but MPQ compactor makes turning it into an MPQ a one second job. You just take the file that you have all of your stuff in, drag it over the program, and you end up with an MPQ sitting right there waiting to get turned into an EXP. I just found my self getting kind of lost when you got towards the end, because I have no idea what's going on turning a file into an MPQ with WinMPQ.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by WoAHorde2 on 2006-10-21 at 19:33:25
WINMPQ is easier, IMO. You put the select files you want in, so you dont end up with something you don't need, and almost 0% of a corrupted file.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-10-22 at 10:38:44
WinMPQ "corrupts" files in two cases only:
Case 1:You make it do so.
Case 2:You don't know how to use it.

Other than this, it is a corruption-proof application, or at least has been for me ever since the 1st release.

You can drag and drop files or folders to WinMPQ as well. You just need to have an archive open to drag it to. BTW, it works best if you are dragging at least two folders to WinMPQ for it add so that the correct paths get added on for you. One of the folders dragged over could even be left empty if you only have modded files that go in one folder. The reason I said to drag at least two folders over is that WinMPQ cannot know how much of the path to include if you only drag over one folder; it is impossible without making assumptions which may be incorrect.

Just a Question/COmmet to this thread. Why does everyone keep posting their problems and issues in this thread? Just make a topic or PM one of the more experianced modders. I personally would prefer replys to this thread to be additions to the tutorial
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ojan on 2006-10-23 at 14:53:43
On page 13, it's a little bit too late for that.

Also, don't use PMs more than necessary. Others might have something to contribute with. Apart from off-topic stuff, there really isn't that much of a need for PMs.

Well, I did most of the tutorial, and I am HOOKED

ADDITION:
I've got a problem, I got around to doing the last tutorial, I followed all the steps, step by step. I downgraded SC to 1.13e. When I ran the mod everything worked fine, until I clicked on an SCV, then it crashed. The SCVs did appear to be perma cloaked. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it? What's going wrong?

Did you change the "number of buttons" field for the SCV in the "Unit" tab of Stargraft/Memgraft?

number of buttons field? Where?

EDIT: I tried doing the same thing again, from scratch. This time It didn't crash, but my SCVs had no scanner sweep ability, and Lockdown and mealstrom were greyed out.
