So, do you believe torture to be justified during a national security crisis? (please don't just say yes/no, this is a discussion)

No. Torture is inhumane, and unjustified in all aspects.

Is it right to put people through tremendous amounts of pain because of their ethnicity, or patriotism to their country? Is it right to bring someone to an inch of death, just because we want information from them?

In my opinion, No. How can you justify harming someone? Even during a "National Security Crisis"?

The only National Security Crisis we have, is the Bush Administration.

But No. To me, torture can NEVER be justified.

Would you torture a terrorist if you know that he holds information, obtaining which can save hundreds of lives and stop a terror act?

Do you think that putting a person under drugs so he talks is torture ?

But who gives anyone the right to deem someone a terrorist? Because they fight for what they believe in? And it's against what we believe in? That makes them a terrorist?

We are terrorists. Believe it or not, we are.

And yes: Drugging someone is torture in my opinion. You are influencing their concious mind against their will; Thus, it's torture.

I will rephrase the question:
Would you torture any person if you know that he holds information, obtaining which can save hundreds of lives and stop a mass murder of children in a kindergarden ?

If you knew how to interigate, you would not have to torture.

So my opinion still stands.

Interigatating doesen't allways give results. Some people don't break under pressure, but may break when their balls get a hit.

I don't think that torture is right, but they use it becawse they can't get the information out any other way.

Normally, I'd be one of those that will insist that the option that results in least suffering or death total -- in this case, torture, depending on the circumstances -- but I simply cannot claim that I would give torture a pass. Of course, this depends quite heavily on your definition of torture, as has been stated, but of course, that's what personal judgement and testing is for.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Lyon on 2006-06-14 at 15:58:01
Whats one mans suffering compared to dozens, hundreds or even thousands of lives?

not to sound self-centered, but if they we're Torturing some terrorist in order to stop a Terrorist attack on Northwestern Pennsylvania (I know, its unlikely, but its where i live) and me and Thousands of others will die if they dont, Then yeah. go ahead and torture him to get information.

I have four speakers placed around my room, I played it as loud as I can and my brother was like what the hell? And the pets were freaking out, and my mom and dad didn't hear anything.

I agree that this is a pretty dull idea, I think this is why they invented vibrate. Ecxept that this doesn't make any noise when laying on a table or something.

I'm sorry, but if I was to be in class and hear that, it would hurt my ears so I would probably say something to the teacher.

Anyway, I find no problem with it as they can fail if they want, their choice. Though it is a horrible noise to my ears atleast.

Take from Wikipedia's Definition of Terrorism page:

QUOTE

In November 2004, a UN panel described terrorism as any act: "intended to cause death or serious bodily harm to civilians or non-combatants with the purpose of intimidating a population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act."

Definition of terrorist is - A person who engages of acts of terrorism.

I'll leave it up to you to decide who is the terrorist...

When known that a person has information pertaining to a possible endangering of thousands or tens of thousands of people, I think that it is vital to get that information. If it is shown that you could have found out after the fact, you look somewhat irresponsible.

I think we all agree that it's a stupid idea, and to just keep your phone on vibrate.

Well see the thing is that the 'humane' part only resides in the Americans and Canadian and maybe a few others, but a lot of countries still do it. Now, say there is going to be an immenent attack on US citizens, would you rather be nice to the terrorist and let the people die, or bruise him up and torture him to save them? I'd rather torture one person to save a 100.

Assuming you to be true, does it seem weird that they deny the International Red Cross to inspect?

If Im not mistaken there is already a Red Cross station in Gitmo, they did have complaints awhile ago, but not now since they were let in to inspect. Im pretty sure of that.

I dont think anyone on earth today wants to see cloning become available. Especially no one wants to see someone that loks exactly like they do. Even though you wouldnt see them at the same age as you because they would be made like a baby whenever you gave your DNA (jeans or whatever)!
