Halo 2 is considered a disapointment after all the hype it received. First was the "Defend Earth" theme that was going on, everyone loved it. Even the demo trailer was about that. Plus it just seemed rushed (although they've had a couple of years). The missions weren't that great compared to Halo 1.
Key concepts they missed
-Bots
-New types of weapons, not ones that were in halo 1 and just can be used. There were only a couple of new types.
-ATV and other new vehicles. Plus I remember reading a article that said they were gonna use the Scorpian Tank more often than in halo 1. Doesn't seem like it.
-Multiple warthogs
-New covenant vehicles (I believe there was only 1) and secondary fire for the wraith available for the players
-More types of covenant soilders (besides brutes)
-More maps. Include the ones in halo 1 as well.
-More gun turret usage
-multiple fire modes for each gun (Automatic fire for the Battle rifle, and a burst fire for the needler or something like that)
Overall they did a good job, but halo 2 was all about the amazing graphics they were gonna come up with, and that's probably the reason why they skipped so much key stuff. In fact, I'd prefer the halo 1 graphics as long as they improved gameplay
I agree.
And yes, they did say there was going to more Scrop Tank usin', they failed horribly with the hogs, only TWO, which they had renders for four, and even had a section on OXM contemplating wether they would be used or not... obviously they weren't

And burst fire for dual needlers would be good but, one? If memory serves 7 = death, but burst fire is like 3 shots or so.
True,
Halo 2 fell horridly short to my standards, but I love it, not as much as my beloved Halo, but it still has its place.
And,
Theres always Halo 3 to look for... as long as they don't

that one too.
But,
I think the main thing was, Bungie made a ton of maps, and then someone thought, well instead of having the Covenant pound Earth, have a PROPHET jump blindly into space, I mean why would a Covenant cruiser jump blindly? They pwn in slipspace, this was a flaw in the storyline. They could have just jumped to High Charity.
Instead,
We find ourselves on another damned Halo.
