The difference is that Battle.Net is free, and most MMORPGs are paying... Which, of course, sucks a big lot.

But paying has so many benefits, it eliminates all spammers and there are people advertising crap that is non-SC related on b.net, and because you have to pay, people don't want to waste money, so everyone is a serious player.

I dont even notice the advertising.

And theres not many spammers on bnet.

One of the reason SC is still alive is because its free.

People tend to like free.

Its one of the reasons i love to play SC, not only because its just an awesome game but because Blizzard doesnt charge its users to play, and the advertisments are there own so i dont find it annoying at all. As far as the spammers... its not nearly as bad as it was a year ago. But i will admit it does seem dead every now and then, back when SC was huge on b.net i was in a clan and it was really fun to play with everyone, but now those people are all gone and i have no idea what they play now so yes it does seem a bit dead, but the numbers playing sc on b.net are still pretty high... typically around the 10 thousand range... so i just think it seems dead because the people we knew and played with on it are not there anymore.

lmao...

TEND? They NEED free! (*gouchyoshicough*)

But I totally agree with DT though, paying sucks for the "general public", but often creates much much stable communities and hack/spam-free.

True, but in some cases you can create a free spam free environment for say like Ultima Online... just create and host your own shard. That way you control everything. But then its also not really free for you... unless of course you have your own host machine... but its free for the users smile.gif

At first I thought it said "*grouch" lol
I don't like paying. I'm poor. I hate paying.
Hey, if I get to play on B.Net sometime within the next 900000000000000000000000000000000000(nine decillion??[that a real word??]) years, anyone wanna play a game of Slaughter the Not U_B?
Heh...

Its like "cough" but with letters changed around.

I like free stuff. I'm always mooching off people.

My sc won't connect to bnet, says somethings wrong with my connection. Oh well. Maybe I should go buy the real game... wink.gif

Paying for MMORPG has its beifits as stated before, that it produces only serious gamers and no spamming. But the drawback is that I won't be able to think one day "Oh, I feel like playing a game of so and so..." and pop a CD into my computer and then just play. I won't pay the monthly fee because I know that there'll be times that I won't be able to play, and paying for an account I'm not using right now and that I might use eventually someday is pointless. So there are both good things about a game that can be played free online, and those that charge money.

I'm playing much less than I played before, all I do now whenever I go on is either look for people and play Team Micro Arena... plus all my friends don't go on as much either... but still StarCraft holds a special place in my heart... funny memories actually!!

Weird how everyone likes Team Micro Arena these days... It's one of the only reasons I go on BW these times... Otherwise...

Perhaps we could have a TMA 6-people tourney biggrin.gif

I just wish there were more GOOD map makers out there... to many freakin bound maps or stupid maps that have no real point to them or arnt very interesting. People on B.net need to learn something about making maps.. then it will be alot funner pinch.gif

Your determination and will to become a good map maker makes you one, its those who throw out pointless maps or maps that have no real story or form of entertainment and challenge. Those are the ones who get on my nerves ranting.gif
hehehe time to chill.... tongue.gif

Hmm.... What would I count as?
I get great ideas and all, it's just that they never turn out right. Triggers always mess up for some reason.

Same here. I just need to practice more, but I prefer actually playing sc than mapping, at least for now.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by en_taro_shrimpy on 2004-02-13 at 17:27:37
Being a new fan of SC I'd have to say that the game is much better than mapping but one reason for that could be that I've never tried to map before.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2004-02-13 at 17:29:45
I'm still discovering many little tiny hidden aspects in the game itself. There's a lot of stuff you can do that I didn't even think about at first.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by en_taro_shrimpy on 2004-02-18 at 20:49:31
Well I still play it just as much because I just started playing it.xD
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Volka on 2004-02-18 at 21:06:09
Yes it's true. I don't play sc as I used to do years ago.
But that doesn't mean I'm out of the starcraft world...I mean, everyone here is here because starcraft.
I don't play it that much, but I have my own site about sc,I do content for it,etc. I still download replays and watch them, the same with maps...I don't play it that much because I advanced to a next step, when you don't need to actually play it to be inside the community.
Though I must say that my golden times on battle.net are gone (last month I played only 3 times, and I lost all of them smile.gif
