You are all speaking that Firefox is better than IE but you show now proof.
Go to my site on both IE and Firefox and see the difference. Also 80% of users with IE can't go to my site becasue of the CSS.

Here are the screenshots, Firefox correctly displays my fonts and tables, while in IE makes it look all fuzzy and makes the table all wierd.

Sure, Mike and IP have to make additional CSS coding for IE but I sure wont.

I sued to have Firefox back in December but my dad deleted it becasue Windows was going to censored.gif up because of it, so I had to revert back to IE. Then I went back to Firefox and installed it but made it a hidden folder so he can't see it. I made no icons for it too. And for your friend with the Microsoft dad, just download Firefox on your PC, burn that download to a cd and give it to your friend to install and do the same thing I did.

You don't even need to install Firefox on the computer. I carry around a copy in my flash drive to use at school. Since they dont allow us to install anything I run it off the flash drive. I do this with Filezilla, Winamp, Winace, Trillian, Textpad, and yes Starfract also. Plus I have plenty of room for all my homework assignments and tons more.

Interesting idea happy.gif.
How good is filezilla? Can it bookmark local directories with remote directories in an easy drop down list for fast directory switching?

OMFG
I was checking Microsoft's internal blogs to see if they deleted my post about redirecting all ie 7.0 users to firefox's website if they didn't comply to standards, they didn't. They closed the blog though, so I clicked on March's topics and saw one on standards.

QUOTE(MS IE Standards Coder)
Additionally, with every subsequent major release of IE, we have expanded and improved our implementation of web standards, particularly CSS and HTML.  When we shipped IE 6.0, we finally fully supported CSS 1, and had some pieces of CSS2 implemented as well. [...] We pay a lot of attention to this kind of thoughtful insight into the biggest problems web developers face today. [...] Microsoft does respond to customer demand; web developers are our customers.

QUOTE(first blog replier)
By "fully supported CSS 1", do you mean "mostly passed the W3C's basic test suite for CSS1", or do you mean "had some sort of detectable behaviour for every feature of CSS1"?

Because I _know_ you don't mean "correctly supported all of CSS 1"...

I'm laughing my ass off.

# IE6.0 - A Webmaster's Nightmare  4/1/2005 11:35 AM  BeeR_KeG

I've always used IE right since the very start. I remember when that was the only webrowser I even knew about.
WTF? IE just created a wierd toolbar at the bottom.

Anyways, yes I always used IE, since I only downloaded files and went around websites.
That is until I meet Firefox. There I finally saw the differences of IE and Firefox. Firefox loaded so much better, loaded faster, and didn't do things on it's own like IE. Everytime I use IE I have a new toolbar. Spam, Pop-Ups and even wierd changes to IE6.0 happen so frequently it's become quite sad.

Recently I've started making my own website and I tested it with Firefox. I made a big change to make the layout fit all screen resolutions and it worked great in Firefox neatly putting equal space between the tables and doing exactly what I wanted. People kept complaining that my site looks like crap in IE, I didn't believe them. I looked at it and stared in awe. The tables actually had gotten smaller, and I have this huge space between my tables. The text looks fuzzy while in Firefox it does not. Also 80% of IE users can't open my page. All I use is HTML and a bit of CSS. Heck, every time I load my page on IE, I get like 2 errors and a critical warning and nothing is hapepning.
IE6.0 - A Webmaster's Nightmare

"So what are you going to do? Adopt standards, or continue apologising for what are clearly economically-oriented decisions of the past?
The web is bigger than Microsoft.
Fall in or fall out."

I'm right with you IP.

Filezilla is really good. Unfortunately, it can't bookmark folders, unless I just don't know how. Might be.

Oh I didn't know you were one of those "ZOMG I CANT SEE" people. Yeah being blind does hinder your ability to see the benefits of Firefox.

My resolution is at 1280x1024 and I can read my sig clearly 5 feet away from the screen. You have to be blind or have a screen resolution 2x that or have a really tiny monitor or a combination of those to have trouble reading my sig.

I run at a smaller resolution then you do, 1024 X 768. The only difference I see between the quote boxes is that the IE one doesn't have dotted lines, which is bs since I use IE and mine do have dotted lines. The only difference I see between your sig is that the FF one is alot fricken smaller, and that it has white underlines, and the second trapezoid thing is white, not orange. Woop-dee, is it those small differences that count?

So far all Firefox does is bootup slower and read my CSS right.
Nothing huge though, just borders on my <option> tags smile.gif.

Still kills SEN load time though, IE loads SEN very fast for me...

Bah, for those of you complaining about slow startup times for Firefox, add /prefetch:1 to the end of the target in the shortcut. And maybe check out some of the optimized builds for certain processors at http://www.moox.ws/tech/mozilla/

Here's some more problems for IE... This didn't even come from advanced css, just basic selector classes and such:

Um... I don't see any huge difference that would destroy a website shown in the pictures. In the FF picture, the checkboxes have a violet tint to them, and the boxs with values have a greenish border boxed around them. Am I missing something?

Like I said, "little" things can easily add up. I usually check things as I write them and adjust it for IE as I go, and our global wrapper code is already noobified for IE so everything is pretty much in order as is. Next time I get a page going that IE majroly censored.gif s up because it can't read standards correctly, I'll make sure I post it.
Beers page, if he didn't fix it up yet for IE, is a good example happy.gif.

I just see the borders around the drop-down boxes change. It's not the worst thing ever.

And on BeeR's page, its different pages. Technically using tables could make it be further spread apart if there's not enough text inbetween. It'd have to be the same page to show a difference.

[attachmentid=7313]

See, its not all that much smaller. I'm also pretty sure that you can force the length of a table, or just use Non-Breaking Spaces (&nbsp; for those that don't know) at the end or somewhere where it wont look bad to force it there.

See, I coded mine in IE and it looks fine.

BTW: Nice folders IP

I don't really know how to fix my site since I already put the 100% in there.

Basicly this is how my site goes.

The site is a big Invisible Table divided up into 3.
Left side, Right Side and Center.

The Big table has 3 big vertical columns.
In each column I have other tables which are the ones that you can see.

I have the tables you can see too fill up 100% of the space in that column of the big column.

IE sucks because it can't properly display that.

I don't know how to make it to be viewed correctly in both browsers at the same time unless I learn some PHP and make specific different values to appear for each different resolution and i ain't going to do that.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2005-04-04 at 19:55:21
<table width=100%>
<tr>
<td width="150px"></td>
<td width="100%"></td>
<td width="150px"></td>
</tr>
</table>

would probably work.

Another annoying attribute of IE's lack of support for css:
table {empty-cells:show;}
doesn't work because IE has no idea what the censored.gif it is. So, we have to write code to replace empty cells with &nbsp;.
But, since everyone using IE seems to think nothing of the "minor" differences, perhaps we should just code according to standards and who cares what it looks like in IE?
