Miniguns are overrated because when you use them you can barely move, thus somebody can just come from behind you and out-manuver your sorry ass.
The sniper rifle from Team Fortress is a nice gun, it goes from sniper-mode to fully-auto. < Wins favorite weapon
Then again, in Chaos Theory, when you're a Merc and you're just casually running around and you hear off in the distance 'beep beep' then 'BANG!', that is the most pleasing way to kill someone in an online game. They never even knew what happen half the time, and that spy thought he was hot stuff sneaking in to secure the objective while you were taking a leak. That was, until he heard the 'beep beep'

for me,

for him. < Wins most pleasing weapon
Then there's the Grav Gun, from HL2. I can't say I used it very much for the first 3/4 of the game, except in Ravenholm where a sliced many hordes of Zombies into little tinybits... I have seen other people put it to great use though, and I loved when it got super-charged in the end. You can do just about anything with it, though. Build a barrier, chuck a big rock at someone, catch falling debris before you go splat, etc. < Wins most adaptive weapon
Then again, in Day of Defeat, when I get my little Mounted MG set up nothing can stop me, except of course somebody who's smart enough not to charge at me and intead chuck a grenade ><. Anyhow, once it's deployed, it usually kills one shot, and it's rate of fire basically assures you don't miss. Just be sure you see the sniper before he sees you ><. Okay, so it gets owned by nades and snipers, but if I have found certain points that are enclosed, so no snipers can get at ya, and are so marvelously perfect of spots that even the most experienced nade chucker has to get a really, really lucky bounce. Plus, if you know how, you can one-hit kill somebody with it undeployed, not suggested though, you end up facing the sky with no clue what direction you're facing ><. < Wins most effective weapon *IF* you know how to use it, like me
