Staredit Network -> Games -> DS vs. PSP

I could hardly shell out 2.5 when playing it on my friend's DS while nukwning my video teacher at Lumines.

However, DS has support for all of the Wario Ware games. They, in my opinion, beat any portable game in existance. Especially, Wario Ware: Twisted. That was a masterpiece of digital gyroscopes.

SWEET PSP CAN PLAY MULTIPLAYER?!?!?!?  Yes I do want a small movie because I can't take a T.v. in the car when we go on 9 hour trips and theres nothing to do..  No, I don't have an Ipod for that, and I like very much the idea of being able to have so many things built in to one little machine.  A minute to load.... Oh boy what am I going to do??  A WHOLE MINUTE!!!  An extra 100 dollars for Mp3, better graphics/games, and can play movies... that doesn't sound bad to me.  Maybe I will shell out 8 more dollars to buy the protective case for PSP, that brings to 108 dollars more expensive than DS.. but it's worth it.  Also, I'm NOT used to seeing those graphics on consoles.  I have never had any console other than SNES and Gamecube and having a portable playstation w/ still good graphics sounds cool to me.

First of all, I'm not going to sway you to my camp, but your points are very weak.

9 hour trips... I'm sure we all have those often, and hows the PSP going to help when you only have 3 hours to watch movies?

Hey, if you want to pay extra for NONgaming purposes, go ahead. I just find seperate devices do them better.

A minute to load doesn't bother you? Well I think we can all agree no loading>loading.

Better graphics, yes, better games, no. I'm not saying DS games are any better, but games for BOTH systems right now are pretty bad. I'm waiting for the killer aps such as Metroid, Mario Kart and Castlevania, while the PSP gets GTA, GT4 and Death Jr.?

If your not used to seeing those graphics on consoles, I suggest you buy games that take advantage of the power on the cube such as Metroid, RE4 or Pikmin. The PSP is almost as powerful as the PS2, and I'll be happy to give you links to prove my statement. And we all know the PS2 has the lowest graphical capability of the 3 consoles, though that's another argument I'm not willing to go into.

So yea, if you like the PSP, more power to you. You got your movies, pictars and moozic all in one. I just find the price ridiculous, and especially in the long run, when you have dozens of games, it will really add up, since you pay $20 more for PSP games than DS.

As for Chus comment on my battery life, I only got that from Gamespot, which is what they said after playing Ridge Racers, which I'll be happy to give you the article. So while I haven't tested the battery life myself, I trust Gamespot's information to be correct. However, I am also aware that games that have simpler graphics use less battery life such as Lumines.

Haha Revelade, you are the biggest Nintendo Fanboy I've seen. sick.gif BF and SE. Anyways, I don't really care for either, but I would like a PSP, but the cost is alot, but I wouldn't mind a DS. I'll get a Gameboy Micro. wink.gif

Thanks. One more reason for me NOT to visit Gamespot. They post false information. I see Gamespot just like any other gaming magazine or online one - they are entirely motivated by money and thus post that way.

And the best part? Did you know it was actually revealed that they are PARTNERS with Sony? Just to let you know.

Yea, call me a fanboy or whatever, but I just want something that is affordable, though if a PSP fell from the sky, I'd take it.

BTW, chu, how are those emulators coming? What can you actually play on it?

I don't know about you guys but, My DS lasted 40 hours before eventually the red light turned on. I played Meteos all day long for 4 days straight, 10 hours each day. (we were going to BC and back) And all that while forgetting to bring the cellphone and my DS charger.

Meh, I voted for the DS because I've actually seen some good stuff on there. But I don't think that I'll ever go back to handhelds now.

P.S. It was great, after getting this new computer, to look at my friend's XBox graphics and go, "Wow, those suck."

NES, SNES, SEGA, GB, GBA, Arcade, Playstation, etc I dont have all the emulators but I can tell you that for NES and SNES all games work and with NES they all run smoothly. There is a SNES one that lets you optomize it to run more smoothly but not all games run perfectly yet. Playstation emulator runs at 2-3 frames per second last update. I'm no joking. The MAME arcade emulator only works with certain games ... mainly those that use little memory usage (PSP only offers 32mb so for the developers of these emulators it makes it hard to get more to work).

You can also put Windows 95/98 on the PSP and run it just fine. There are also tons of homebrew games that are pretty fun. Especially SmashGPSP which is a 2d sprite based PSP version of Super Smash Bros. It also has a nice character and level editor so you can make your own.

They have ported a couple of open source games as well (Doom 1/2 namely).

Tons of blam for PSP, all that stuff only works on Firmware versions 1.0 and 1.5 right now but they are working on cracking the next major version (2.0) to get stuff to work on it aswell seeing as all European PSP's will contain 2.0.

i think the PSP is better becauz the design and the range of games it has and the functions it can do.And already most of the PSP games r good rated in some magazines i read bout psp games. But i didnt forget the DS abilitys becauz it has pic to chat or somethin and the games r classics like Super mario 64 or somethiin so yeah. Also theres a rumor that the PSP battery life SUKS BIG.

Yeah but there are plenty of battery packs and stuf out to extend the life more than double its current life. And I'm looking forward to one comming out soon so I can hold my PSP like a controller and extend the battery life:

Revelade,
As to the battery life on long trips, I'm not sure if I believe you or chubs about the battery life, but I do know you can always take along extra batteries...

I like to have a device with many capabilities...

In my opinion, PSP does have a lot of games better than DS...

I prefer quality over quantity and would happily take 3 good games with better graphics instead of 5 DS (in most cases, even though DS has a lot of fun games, too)

Wonder how much that's gonna cost... and doesn't look likes its portable any more... =/

But if you like it, GO FOR IT. Should feel better since you can grab more of it.

You do realize that you have to buy special PSP battery packs, not the ones you find at K-mart. Here's a good one, though it will set you back $25 or so:

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=0&products_id=7027

And it's not me who says it's 3 hours, it's Gamespot.

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/driving/ridger...ew_6114902.html

". Though battery life is something that can be difficult to gauge, it seems like Ridge Racers could chop that six hour number in half, or worse."

I will admit your battery life goes WAY up when you play simple graphic games like Lumines.

If you don't already have a CD player, want to watch movies for a few hours, and store whatever, in a 32mb card (though you could spend some more for a 1Gb), go ahead. Those things don't interest me however.

Better games? Can you name some that you enjoyed yourself? I'm not saying this because the DS games are better. It's just right now, both systems have mediocre games, none of which I'm willing to spend.

If you judge games by graphics, well that's your call again. For me, there's a point where I get used to it and the "wow" factor wears off.

@Chu: Snese games? You mean like Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, Earthbound, and Final Fantasy III?!?!? Must be amazing on the go. Hopefully, those games don't drain battery life too much.

PSP isn't for poor pplz. Nintendo is for more casual gamers and DS has more pick-up-and-go games.
And for all that extra crap, I bet it'll cost way more to buy a portable dvd player, DS, and an Ipod that carries pictures than to buy a PSP.

No. DS Has the biggest variety of games. Lets see, Wario Ware, Nintendogs, Feel the Magic XX/XY, every :censored:ing game for advance, Metroid Prime, Mario 64.

I see that as a HUGE variety in games. As for PSP, it has to have emulators, which are technically hacks, to get a better variety of games.

The drain on the battery life = UMD and WLAN usage. If you're loading from the UMD a lot then your battery will die quickly. Sounds to me like Ridge Races loads the tracks then plays the music from the UMD or something to drain the battery that quickly because Wipeout isn't that bad at all and I would say Wipeout is way more intense.

As for emulators and roms and blam, since they run off the memory stick there is no UMD usage. Your battery life goes as long as 12 hours sometimes. I've played all those games on my emulator and half of them run smoothly, the others run smoothly with some optimization.

There is a PSP emulator so I can play Wipeout Pure on a laptop? There are laptops that fit in my pocket? There are laptop batteries that last longer than 4 hours? Why not link me to this phenomenal laptop. I want one!

There's more to it than that. You have music games where you can record your music and tweak it like Electroplankton or Jam with the Band. You have your minigame games like Wario Ware. You even have a freaking SURGERY game, as well as a game that takes place in a coutroom. Tell me that's not variety there.
