I bought the DS because I'd rather play the $50 games that I buy on my HD TV. I want to see all the functions used well, and pretty soon they will be. People have said you can get nearly the precision of FPS games on the DS, than the PSP.
Sure you get more functions, but than again, do you really need all that? Do you really want to pay for a small movie, when you can get a DVD for the same price and get more features and a larger screen, without worry of battery dying?
Sure, you get a music player, but I'm sure we all have Ipods for that. Or better yet, get yourself a CD player for $20, 1/10 the price of just a PSP, but wait. PSPs only come in VALUE packs, which costs about $250 with tax included.
Then the battery life itself... 3 hours? O wait, it gets worse if you play multiplayer? You might as well play your games WHILE pluggin in an AC adapter, but again, that kills the point of the psPortability.
And if you get one, you could be one of the lucky ones who get a pixilated screen! Yes, that black dot will stay with you, wheter you are playing your Lumines, to the moment you fall asleep. I've had 3 friends who have had to trade in their PSPs, because of said problems.
Did I mention loading times? Yep, some take almost a minute to load (cough cough ridge racers). So expect to waste much of the precious battery life you had, watching a little bar fill up.
So, despite my words, you decide to get one to put music, photos, whatever into it. Then you look at the memory card and its 32mb! Great, that means only 10 songs (I'm being generous here), a couple of photos (HAY GUYZZZ CHEK OUT MY BABEE FOTOS OMG!), and even fewer movies, which will drain battery life even more.
O wait, bigger memory card? Want a decent 1GB? Well, you are going to shell out $90 for that pal. So that comes to a total of $310! Ya know what? You could buy an Xbox 360 with that kind of money!
So a more serious summary of my points are:
- outrageous price ($250)
- weak battery life
- memory card to small to fit anything
- greater chance of malfunctions than DS
- nothing new to gaming
- movies are a scam
- entire system, especially screen is prone to finger prints, scratches
Now as for a DS, I'm not saying it's WAY greater, but at least I don't feel ripped off. I paid $150, AND I got a free demo, unlike some spiderman movie, which IMHO was horrible.
Yes, graphics are horrible. I won't try to argue with you there. Yes the PSP has a knob, but I find it inaccurate and frustrating, so I'd rather stick with the PSP d-pad. In fact, the PSP d-pad is much better than the DS version.
HOWEVER, you get precise, and EXACT movements with the touch screen, which I can't complain about. You get a microphone, which will allow you to talk to your buddies in Africa, when the DS goes online. You get a folded design to protect your screens.
Battery life is 10 hours, or possible 20, if you turn back light off. The buttons do feel cheap, but that is something I can live with.
You have 2 slots to put a GBA game and a DS game. Great for people like me who have some GBA games. And if you dislike the lineup for the DS right now, you could always grab some GBA gems like Zelda, Marios or Golden Sun.
Did you know that the DS can make phone calls? It's not available yet, but when the online plan launches later this year, you will be able to.
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/media/r...6&intDeptTab=26The PSP can play emulated games, but what exactly will you play? I mean if you know how to install stuff on the PSP, it is a bonus as you get more games... though illegally.
So my conclusion is if you have money to burn and I mean a LOT of money, go ahead and get a PSP. You could use that money on the xbox360, but that's your call. My opinion is I don't need all those features, because in the end, those features make the price go up more than it has to be. Battery life really does it for me, and it really limits how portable the PSP can really be. Finally, the PSP doesn't excite me. I'm used to seeing those graphics on the consoles, so it's nothing new here. You don't get any new or interesting functions, which makes me feel like I'm playing the same things over and over again.
The DS is priced fairly at $150, and BREAKING NEWS!
http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000463054618/The price gets even better, so you can keep your Andrew in your pocket for now. The games are priced $30, so you save even more money. Every 3 PSP games, let's you play 5 DS games.
You get new and interesting ways to play such as the microphone, touch screen, and a folding design that protects the screens. Did I mention that the DS has more games coming out this year than the PSP?
So finally, it's more media vs new ways of gaming + battery life + cheaper price + NO loading times. So, it's really your call.
