well if the music today isnt worth buying then why is it worth downloading?

buying = pay money
download = mostlikelly free
so yea download seems alot better
QUOTE(KaboomHahahein @ Nov 21 2005, 06:08 PM)
Well they do get a lot of money but by downloading you are basically stealing their credit of the song and etc. Apparently in Canada you are allowed to download because the judge said it was like the same as borrowing a book from the library. My tech teacher said that is was apparently not illegal to download but illegal to upload files for others to download.

So you're saying that me uploading original songs I have made, is illegal?
QUOTE(Moosetent @ Nov 21 2005, 06:43 PM)
What I think is weird is that the two main costs that jack up a CD's prices are Advertising the CD, and the case. And itunes dollar songs are still WAY overpriced. The sad thing is that most of the money made by selling music does not go to the people who produce the music. You can get lucky to sign a contract with a recording studio to make 25% of your profits. The corporate function of the music industry is screwing everyone.
Thats just for music though, sorry for being off topic.

You need to discuss this with me over MSN. I am interested in how you have concluded this ^_^

It's illegial to share files in Canada, but not to download files. How funny.
That's because how is someone downloading supposed to know if it's copyrighted or not (when there's no warning)? Copyright laws limit ability to distribute, not people's abilities to recieve. Stop people from uploading files they don't have permission to, obviously no one will have to worry about downloading files they're not supposed to. It's as it should be.
It's naive to believe everyone who uploads files on limewire owns the copyright to them, but not unreasonable. A reasonable person might assume said band seemed to be promoting thier music. Obviously downloading a movie before it comes out is suspicious (though not impossible for a downloader to be unaware of it's copyright), but it's still the uploader who takes the blame.
I don't think anyones really losing money. Even people who knowingly download illegally uploaded material still spend a fair amount on the entertainment industry, going to concerts, going to the movies etc. It's just now when they're out of money, they can still get stuff. Who knows, maybe the extra entertainment is keeping people from suiciding (my friend jokes that if he couldn't download music, he'd of killed himself by now).
PS: For anyone slow out there, always assume something is copyrighted, and don't upload it unless you have the rights to it.
Cheers,
I know that bands like Metallica have sued Napster and whatever. I know that the big businesses/bands/cooperations/etc. are being selfish greedy pricks. BUT, it is helping out all the new bands/etc. that are trying to get on their feet and make it in this business. Let's say, for instance, i make a band, we release a record, a few hundred people buy it...w00t $500 profit for the whole band...then the rest is dled illegally. Guess what? My band is through, we never made enough money to pay our bills and the record company isn't selling enough records to want to keep us so we get the boot. So, even though these selfish, money hoggers are THAT greedy that they spend more money to get their money back, it still has a small positive effect on small and upcoming bands/etc.
Hmm, What people don't understand though is, They aren't necessarily lost profits. In this case, I'm not sure for music. For movies and big games and such, I think its not lost profits. If I had the money I would buy it, if I download it, Its because I wouldn't have the money to buy it anyways. So, take out my ability to download but I won't buy it anyways, don't have the cash. This is what happens in most cases. I'm pretty sure that if most people had the abundance of money to go buy a Movie and a game when they do want, they wouldn't download it. Why would you? You only need to go to a tiny bit away from your house to get a verison of the movie or game that you wanted without risking to dl a corrupted file. For a movie, you wouldn't have to worry about the bad quality, since you can buy it. Most people if they have the money, they will buy it instead of dling, you get it instantly, only have to go out and buy it. Instead of downloading it and risking chances to getting a bad quality or corrupt file, aswell as having no cd-key to play the game online etc.
So really, Its not necessarily "Lost profits", Its only lost profits for the small minority who can afford but still download it anyways.

I meant uploading files that are copywrited that don't belong to you. Obviously I didn't mean the songs that you made...

But there are those who could buy it and do the same thing, and you can always be the one supplying them with the movie they would have bought.
There are points when downloading seems to be the only option for me. I ask you to try to find the CD of "Live Without Dead Time" which is a compilation of a bunch of different not very well known artists I like. The only thing is that I cannot find this CD in any of our stores in my city, and can't find anyplace to buy it online. The only place they seem to sell it is New York, and I am not getting there anytime soon. In this case the only way I could get the songs on the CD was with sharing.
P.S. If you ever see the CD someplace email me, I'd like to buy that CD. (I'd be willing to pay $25 for it.)
yea i still go the theaters but never buy music... and dvd yea i buy but not to much if i really want to see it again i borrow it. i download hella anime XD lol haha.
and other computer program if needed how you get ps2 games and stuff. this is to silent
wow you could download ps2 games???
oh i bet thats why for psp they made the disk look all weird
and the fact that its alot smaller than a ps2...
Here is a good point:

If a friend tells you about a good cd but you have never listend to it so you dl a few songs of the cd and listen to them. They suck. You just saved yourself like 20$ Even though thats not alot... its still money! you could save up and buy a new computer game, or buy a extra cd for sc:bw

.
I dont think its necessarily wrong to Dl music I dont dl cracked programs because programs like Flash dont make alot of money off those programs being alot of money as it is but the songs of an album are only worth like a dollar or 2 as it is adding the like 52 cents it is to make them why dont sites like LimeWire or something pay say $50 for like a
load of songs to share than technically it would be legal...than again most people dont wanna pay for other people Emulators and Roms, they defiantely apply.
I got BUSTED in school for using a school comp to play the Snes version of mario.
Why shouldn't it be wrong to DL a good old game like, say Secret of Mana, for free, when there are so little copies hanging around.
i would think they would of lost the copyrights for it so it can be downloaded for free. did you ever think that the reason you got busted is because u were playing games on the computer? not just downloading an illigal mario? also i dont think its illigal to download roms if you actually have the game.
wat i understand is itunes is only Selling the music so they dont get sued for distributing it for free.
well if its 99 cents then thats too much... it should be like 10 cents i mean you already payed for the stupid ipod or you can just use limewire and transfer it to itunes like a smart person

I think there is no need to argue if its right or wrong its always wrong. Even though thoes movie company and music company make hella money they acctutally put a lot of work into it. And you know you think its only a few 100 thats doing what your doing but its acctutally millions. Thats why hollywood aint doing as good as it use to.

thats EXACTLY wat i do

heres a tip... fark limewire... pay 10 bucks for 30 gigs on easynews.com and download anything you want. I downloaded a 5 gig game (san andreas, which i have for ps2 but not comp...till now) in just a half hour becuz it downloads in small parts.
EasyNews > LimeWire, BearShare, etc.
bear share... hahaha... sounds like a bigfoot molester... >.>
anyway limewire > easy news
in terms of cost

nope i use both... bearshare for songs, but easy news owns it all the way... it took me a day and a half to download farkin morrowind.... Took me a half an hour to download civ 4, GTA : SA, axis and allies, visual c++ 6.0, stronghold 2, and american conquest. best part is... you can download all at once. You can download up to 8 differant things at a time. when you make an account, you get 8 quenes(sp?) that can hold 5 gig each. So lets see.... a half an hour-an hour to get ALL those games..... pretty farking good compared to bearshare. It dl's fast bcuz they are in parts. Such as maybe 52 parts of 14 megs each, or something like that....
wow thats pretty neat

I love to crack games

I don't know why, but I like to crack em' too. I mean ya, its bad, but fark em' they don't provide a demo (most of them) and they expect us to spend our hard earned dollars to buy a game we haven't tested.

Something i forgot to add, if you paid 10 dollars for the gigs, after 30 days it bills you again, but instead of just returning it to 30 gigs, it just adds them on. So the next billing cycle you would have 60.
