I voted yes. It would be nice. I do learn from triggers, seriously. I learned hyper triggers from MoD Bound which was unprotected that time.
My triggers are always complicated and sometimes hard to follow.

I haven't seen many posts saying they have. Considering you're putting in Über@tion 3 (which prompted this, by the way), I'd rethink what you're doing.
Well I'm against it but MindArchon likes (and made) it so I've agreed to put it in since SEN allows it. But if SEN goes against it, then we'll just not make it.

I've learned from it. I dissected HotH to learn some stuff, back when the first version of Triger Vuiewer came out.
You do realize that Bolt has already put out an unprotected version?

There's tutorials on that everywhere.

That doesn't mean that didn't learn from it. What if Bolt hadn't put out the unprotected version? What that make his point seem stronger? No. In both cases, he still learned through the use of that program.
I support it because it allows a read-only type of thing for a map. This gives anyone the ability to look at any map, potentially learn from it (or simply be in shock when they realize the "easy trigger" took 200+ triggers) and then use it in their own way.

And as Rantent and I have said, merely having more tools available to play with will not mean more people could become map artists over night. I believe the best way to learn anything is to figure it out for yourself, but there may be some promising map makers out there who could benefit from this. When I first thought about it, I was against it, but this may help Starcraft's longevity (especially in the UMS department). In the end, aren't all of us in support of Starcraft's longevity?

I support it. I agree you can't become a good map maker by just looking at the triggers, but having a tool that can check into certain maps for triggers will definitely make new map makers easier to become one. No one can really claim they invented a 'trigger', so they can't claim that knowledge to be their own property. Trigger viewing definitely isn't stealing, since this trigger viewing is just passing knowledge and a process of learning. In the end they still have to excercise that skill into a map, and whether they make a damn good or bad map for the starcraft community is what really matters.
I have to add that when I learnt triggering I took ages to figure out how everything worked. Trigger viewing is just a tool out there that will make map making a little easier... and aren't this site, and most of us over here meant to be dedicated to helping out new map makers? Trigger viewing won't do all the work for them. In the end, they still have to put the effort and skill in to make a decent map.

It helped me.
I am someone who is stubborn when it comes to asking for help. Call it what you will...
Anyway, I remember looking at qPK's Legacy of Haen, because frankly, I had no idea how he did the Stamina system. (This was quite a while ago). Also, when I did a Shop system similar to someone else's map, I had a buggy version. So, what I did was, open the map up and see how they did it. After seeing the way they configured the triggers, it was kind of like "Ooooh... That's what they did."
So, I am in full support of this.

Then I say: "Post it at SEN" and you're like: "No thx" so I tell you a bunch of random stuff and you usually figure it out yourself.
Me: "Eggroll!" Me: "Cheese is like Cheeze except with a s instead of a z!" Forkshaken: "Omg I figured it out!"

I vote yes as long as you dont cant copy the trigger and you gotta make it yourself and it doesnt unprotect the map
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)MinigameEast on 2005-12-19 at 13:51:40
i say yes because you can learn new triggers from it. people will ask fewer questions on the map making assistants. even im trying to find out one trigger and people wont tell me becuase there all selfish.
might as well find it the hard way. oh yea... why did you even take out mindarchons trigger viewer anyways? i need to download it for my old computer

This has happened to me before. I spend 3+ weeks to compose and construct this elaborate triggering method and what what what? Someone saw my triggers and used it in their map and now has claim to my work? It just disgusts me. You just took all my hard work and slapped your sticker on it. Good job sir, you are a great map maker, keep it up! Im glad that sen hosted these awsome programs so you can just get in my stuff and rob the very essence out of it[/sarcasm]. Thank you very much sen.
