Technically no becuase galaxies are constantly moving farther apart.
This is impossible to answer no matter how advanced we get, because if it is infinite, we will never be able to go infinitely far so it could still be just very large for us, and if it isn't infinite when we find just nothing after a while it could be just a big gap between something bigger than a galaxy. The sphere doesn't prove it to be infinite, because just because we can fly around the earth infinitely, it doesn't mean the earth is infinite.
Solar System -> Galaxy -> Galactic Cluster
There are galaxies of galaxies, I'd say that's big enough for me...
ADDITION:
As for going on into infinity? Not so sure...
... Hmmm...
Some nice theories... I shall steal them and send them to Proffesser Steven Hawk
Yes, but at the "end" there will be a big black hole you can't get around, and that will lead to the beginning. Hah, just to piss you off >:/
Not sure, but my theory is that if it ends, its because we did it, or it is the circle of this universe. But other wise, the only reason we can't see farther into space is because light hasn't reached us yet.
I believe the universe will say 'U all are kneebiters' by some improbable probablity that will cause rips in the space-time continium and cause the universe itself to thus go back in time to the start of the Universe and thus repeat infinitly.
I voted it wouldn't end, simply because I can't imagine what there can be at the end. It might somehow even be 'circular', so if you go to one end you appear at the other end of the universe. Or you can just disappear out of existance, or maybe it's like hitting a brick wall.
Also, if the big bang theory is correct then the universe is expanding which means it's getting larger all the time which makes the question invalid. I really don't know why the universe would implode on itself, so if it wears out at all, I don't see why it should stop expanding which would make it infinite.
Einstein created a lot of theorems & other thing for calculations & thanks to his works, we know (not 100%, but prittey sure) taht Uiverse is Increasing in size, & the speed with what is "grows, stretches"(understand how u want), this SPEED INCREASES !!!
...
Well, there is an end to everything. If the universe just kept on expanding, everything would start to fade. First the stars would all die out (in about 500 trillion years), then the planets would all freeze, and die. That would disrupt all gravity. The universe may or may not implode, but eventually, there would be nothing in it.
Dante, actually there is a scenario abot the End Of the World, with this "expansion of the universe" cawsing it.
If it is expanding, then every, even the smallest particle, in the universe trys to fly away from all the others. expansion trys to Tare everything apart. like any animal in a camera with 0 pressure. It allmost explodes. Sinse the speed of expansion is rising, then the "pulling" forse is rising in power.
And when this forse will overcome the force of gravitation between particles...
....gusee what will happen...
everything will turn into dust...
Well, the point is, the universe is gonna explode or implode at some point. No-one knows exactly which. And Middle_Finger, I can sort of ignore the fact that this is a website and you can spell stuff incorrectly sometimes, but I noted 5 different spelling errors, with one of them occuring twice. Plus, you put a capital in the middle of a sentence, put no capital at the beginning of a sentence, and what on Earth does "Any animal in a camera with 0 pressure" mean exactly? Once again, I know that this is the Internet, and it's alright to misspell things, but this is stupid.
I think he means something like a human in a vaccum... This of course causes all the air int he human to expand to make itself the same pressure as its surroundings, causing the human to 'explode'. I believe that is what he meant. But I make spelling errors, he's probably just lazy like me to Spell Check everything.
Oh, now I understand
Thnx a lot! And I think that Middle_Finger is wrong. I can't exactly explain why, but some of his facts aren't even allowed due to the science of physics. And he also takes this topic too seriously. We WON'T be around when this stuff happens, so don't think that posting that will help scientists stop it. Actually, lot's of you took this too seriously
. But I won't name names
I believe the universe is finitely big and expanding, however, it is all-encompassing.

Zero pressure is when there is no air.
Yes, there is.
As Modest Mouse proudly says: "The universe is shaped exactly like the earth, if you go straight along you'll end up where you were"
Think about it. If you believe in the Big Bang (Which I do) then it's the most logical explaination.

Welcome back Kellimus. I hope you have changed since.
Anyways... I will take a side of a religionist/anti-evolutionist here to get the discussion going.
Kellimus, where does it say that Big Bang is the right thing? Who says it is the law? It is a theory, right? Meaning, it can be disproved by other theories or laws. How can we assume from a such an unstable source?I never once said it was "the one". I just mearly stated my opinion.
There could be, there might not be also. No one knows for sure.

Nice theory.. however, the Universe cannot be shaped like the Earth.
The Earth is circular and has four planes (North, South, East, West)
The Universe also has an up and down plane, so therefore makes it impossible to comprehend the idea of going in any direction and ending up back where you began. The Universe would then not be in the shape of a Earth,, but in some really weird shape that bends time and space.
Just simplify it like this.
Infinity is only possible under ideal situations. Nothing is ever infinite. It can get close to infinity, but it will never ever reach infinity. Because infinity is impossible, Universe is limited, although the number may be extremely large.

Ah, but that's where the theory of the Big Bang helps out that theory:
An explosion does not just go left and right. It goes on all planes. Up, down, right, left, EVERYWHERE.
So if the big bang were true, then it means the Universe would explode into a spherical shape, meaning that there really is an actual end. The farthest galaxies out there.
And the Wormhole theory is also true if this is true. Because you would be "digging" a hole into the Universe.
Wouldn't you have to move through the w axis to 'dig' a hole into the universe?
...
One of main barriers in this field is probably the spatial limitation of human senses and thought process. That is, that the universe can just abruptly end and there is nothing outside that end.
