Blizzard should just send out a graphics inprovement patch...or some gameplay bug patch...anti hack patch...and it will be better.

SC2 = Doesn't exist to me.

At least they actually did the sensible thing and made it for PC.

That's because MMORPGs on Consles don't sell very well. Stealth Third Person shooters do well on Consles, nto on PCs.

I honestly don't see how Starcraft could get better.
More units? Sure, a few maybe, but too many and you start getting them mixed up, confused. Nobody new would try it because forming strategies would be too complicated, not to mention the amount of extra buildings and tech tree branches that would have to come with it, along with the spells/abilities that you would have to manage.

Oh wow, 5 more units for each race. WTF DO I DO!?!??! OMFG 2 MORE BULDINGS AHHHHHHHHH SO CONFUSING. Games like Age Of Empires I STILL don't know all the units in the game espically with sepical for each region.

QUOTE
Better graphics? Since there are so many units on the screen at any given time, RTS games always have lesser graphics than their RPG/FPS/etc. counterparts. Starcraft was supposed to be a serious, rusted future sort of game, and 2D simply suites that too well. By going 3D you risk ruining the overall image of the game, thought they're already doing that with Ghost...  cry.gif

A lot of units? You mean... 24? Ever play "Rome Total war" that has over 200 units on screen at one time? Or even first person shooters with at least 20 guys on screen. Techonolgy has really advanced since 1998 buddy. By a whooping 8 years.
QUOTE
Extra Races? The same as more units, a few are fine, too many and you complicate the game so that it is no longer fun. If you want to stand a chance against somebody playing a different race than you, you have to know that race inside and out; what counters it, what strengths/weaknesses it has, etc. Too many races and you start to get confused/mix things up.

If they added Zerg/Protoss hybrid and Xel'Naga that'd be on, then it'd be 4 races (or 5) That's hardly confusing at all compared to other things. Like Age of Empires (Again) when there's like 6 different regions you can be.

SC2 would be worth it just because it'd be more badass if the graphics didn't suck. I'm sure they could paint everything with dark colors and give the maps a dark glare, and make everything badass with blood etc. Don't say it will be more confusing or impossible to make, because there are far more confusing things than what SC2 could be.

The best thing they could do for starcraft is add another Expansion and finish the damn story.

Never.

Did you miss the 'sure, a few' part? A few new units are fine, but I've seen plenty of people who want some 30+ extra units added to each race, each with very different strangths/weaknesses/abilites. 3*30=90 new units. That's just too many for me to keep track of.

A) I've managed to get 10000+ units on the screen at once in Rome: Total War
B) I'm pretty damn sure you can fit 200 Zerglings on the screen
C) You overlooked that fact that if Starcraft were in 3D it would be difficult to retain the seriousness of it.

Once again, you missed when I said 'a few'. Two new races is fine, but, like units, there are many people who want an absurd amount of races. They want Terrans split into: UED, Pirates, and Korhal, they want the Zerg split into Kerrigan and Overmind, they want the Hybrids, the Xel'Naga, a race resemblant of the machines in Terminator, and more. If you mix that with the 30 extra units to each race, you get 40ish*8 = 320ish units. You're honestly telling me you could memorize that many units and everything they did?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathawk on 2006-03-12 at 20:42:17
I think they could break down the races into smaller groups, like the UED and Pirates can have a lot of the same buildings, just some extra units.

And if anybody has played Total Annihilation, SC would be good if it were like that wink.gif

Also, a lot of RTW's units aren't frequently used. Nobody uses Levy Pikemen because they suck, except for the campaign, they're useful early on.

And in RTW, they have units like Egyptian Chariot, which isn't much different from Britanna's Chariot.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Shapechanger on 2006-03-12 at 20:43:10
Well the thing about the spliting of the Terran/Zerg is that they want them all to have entirely unique buildings/units/tech trees. That's just too much.

I wasn't aware that you discussed this before with complete retards.

Like here, When I think new units I think wow cool 3 new units, that's awesome. Not 30 PER RACE. That's not even possible, they'd have "Corrupt Dark templar" "Corrupt High Templar" "Infested Marine" Infested Firebat" for most of those units

That just proves my point, a lot more units can be fit in on screen these days even in 3D

No I didn't:

Plenty of RTS have gone 3D and kept seriousness. You shouldn't judge how SC2 will look from some mod for WC3... (or Command and Conquer, whatever)

Read above.

Act of War: Direct Action
Is a 3D RTS. This is sort of what I expect SC to look like. You get the feel that they're acutally all in places you could see in modern day, just with aliens and stuff. I'm sure they could make SC2 look like that. And not goofy bright colors and shiz like they went on an LSD trip.

In Rome Total War, you don't have 10000 UNITS, you have 10000 men(Unless you use Screeching Women =\), You can't control each 1 individually, usually, you have to control them by the unit. I think the limit to units is 28 per player in a custom battle, and you can have 8 players, I think.

That's what I just said... I'm not rooting for the 30+ new units, if you haven't noticed...

Sadly, I have heard that many of the original developers of Starcraft have since left blizzard... So SC2 would be a complete different experience unless they pull something off. I think blizzard should buy Rareware from microsoft, they were so good. Its a pity, they made the best N64 games but now they cant since all those games belong to nintendo...

Lol I went off topic. A new race would be fine, you wouldnt get confused with units since you wouldnt have to choose that race, and versing them would require you to forge a few strategies (big deal *sarcasm*). Balancing would be the only issue, which I am sure bliz can easily pull off.
