think the ozone layer only protects us from the harmful uv rays from the sun...its the co2 atmosphere that causes the greenhouse effect.  in some scientific predictions, the earth will be like venus in a few million years and the sun will swell up and expand whereas venus' dense atmosphere traps all the heat and dries up everything.

but for now,its just a no real impact cycle thats going on.  the polar caps will melt and evaporate like in the sumemr then it will freeze up again later in the cold months of the year or in winter.

I agree that earth will most likely become another Venus in sometime as the sun swells but when the sun gets to a certain size the earth might stop cooling down. By that time I hope humans would've found out how to get safetly elsewhere. tongue.gif

in some astronomy books i have read...they have wierd ideas about striving to survive on earth...such as moving planet earth out of its orbit away from the sun...or try to plant life on another planet thats like us...such as mars...
those ideas are just wierd to me...all things must come to an end someway in time, but we are just trying to defy that...but anything is possible.

and one other thing you guys know that the seasons don't depend on the revolution but its the tilt on the earth's axis that causes seasons...we are closer to the sun in the winter time while we are farther away from the sun in the summer time meaning so the north and south poles dont really face direct sunlight for it to melt

well i doubt earth will become an other venus, that would take some serious carbon dioxide and ash in the atmosphere, and the sun wont really do anything for more than a billion years.

gas will eventually run out, and we will be running on the hydrogenz hooray!
