It's best to do it like the lead singer from tool. You're popular, but people generally don't know your name or what you look like. That's how you do it. Never show your face, or say your name. Just do what you do.

If you want to guarantee your fame, then make 1 or 2 albums or 1 or 2 movies, etc., and then get yourself murdered or commit suicide and make sure your family is in your will. They won't have anything to worry about and you'll be a legend. I swear to god that Kurt Cobain and Tupac and others like them wouldn't be half as famous if they were still alive.
