Hmm this is one of the best topics I've read here so far.

1988 FTW!

I listen to Ludacris, 50 Cent, Lil' John, Sean Paul, Twista, Nivea, Ciara, Petey pablo, Ying Yang Twins, TI and a few others... of Rap and Hip-Hop.

I drink, sure, I always control myself because I run Track, I've never been drunk, but I've been a bit woozed at times.

Our Culture, Generation Y(1982 to somewhere in between 1993-2000), or in this case, the older people of Generation Y(1982-1989), don't really choose to be this way, there are events outside our reach that make our generation be like this.

For us, computers have not been always there, we remember when we had to write reports by hand, and go to the library to use a computer.

Most of us remember the fall of the Soviet Bloc and the Gulf Wars, which changed everyday life by a great deal.

Our childhood is greatly compared with technological advances, from computers that would barely display an image, to the full fledged hyperthreading PC's we have today.

Our childhood was the last one in which when we were children, would go outside and play until we were called for dinner.

Almost every year there would be a war, Iraq, Bosnia and Somalia to name a few.

We remember when cassette players where the iPod's of the day.

This is why you see that the early parts of Generation Y(1982-1989) is very different from botht he preceding and later generations. We are a generation of transition. We still hold to some of those ideals to going out almost every possible day, but we will stay some time on the computer. You can give us a car and we won't complain, but we'd like to have a BMW. We will listen to rock as Generation X did, but we will be most closely related to what was created during our time, Rap and all derivative music, it is said that Rap and it's derivative genres are a transition from instrumental music, like rock, to electronic like techno.

So in escense, you can't be mad at our generation for socially acting as we have done, there are events around the world that makes us think and act, as we generally do.

Not all of us act specifically as stated, some of us tend to lean one way or another, but most of us will have the same central view which consists of asking questions about everything, thinking of ways to bring new change and working for oneself, not for others.

Also, you can't have nothing to do with our generation, because we will be your boss or we already are tongue.gif

I envy you. If I could go back in time I'd never been drunk that one time that it started for me..(long story dont ask..)

Unfortunatly the maturity is leaning towards the drugs and alchol. This includes me which I also find unfortunate for myself thought it was my fualt to begin with.

Yup, especially the drug problem in the hippy age. Just ask your parent's. I actually found out that my parents were both hippys and they did weed at that time, which disturbed me even more sad.gif

There is better way to answer this question of how and why people of generation Y is acting so screwed up.

It is the general way. It is like a "bounce-back."
The generation before us, and I mean as in your parents, suffered through series of conflicts and hard times during their life. They suffered so greatly, that they feel the necessity to protect their children. During the action, they spoil the generation, making the whole generation Y to become more affected to more open, unique stuff your parents did not know about. Because they don't want their sons and daughters to suffer, the situation and ideals of generation before us "bounce-back" and hit us with selfishness and stupidity.

I hate the people around me if you ask. I am tired of people who smoke every lunch period across the school (across the school is a diff. city) just for the heck of it. I am sick and tired of illegal drug traffic in my school. I hate it when I notice it is the parents' ignorance that causes this upheaval in social lives of many people.

I agree with teh bun_bun, although I wouldn't wanna abandon my generation.

Any censor-evasions are unintentional.

Today as I was coming home from work, I ended up behind some farking yahoo drifting all over the road. My first thought was, “Is this meanie drunk?” Then I got next to him. The first thing I heard when I got right was some farking rap “song”, and when I looked over, this farking douche bag was sitting there (I don’t know if you could call it sitting, his seat was half way the fark back) fiddle farking around with his CD book, undoubtedly looking for some more farking rap music to play. This clown was swerving down the highway, damn near causing an accident, because he was too farking stupid to think that maybe, just maybe, it’s a good farking idea to keep your eyes on the farking road.

This is when I came to an important decision, I’m disowning my generation. That’s right; I’m farking done with everyone between the ages of fifteen and twenty-seven. I’m sick of being part of a generation that phrases ignorance and stupidity, where drugs and alcohol take president over literacy. An entire generation where being sexually active is exponentially more important than a meaningful relationship, personal expression, or even logical thought, that’s the generation I’m lumped into. I can’t even tell you how many girls in my high school got knocked up because they were too stupid to use protection, and I don’t even want to think about STD rates among guys, because all their friends are boning, so that means they have to be, damn the consequences. Suddenly, it’s cool to be a farking moron, as long as you get drunk on the weekends. I’m gonna be straight here, I do drink, but the two main things that set me apart from the rest of the idiots in my age group are:
I keep that shiz in check; no form of booze will pass my lips until 8:00 Pm on Friday night, and I don’t pass up other things that might be more important to me in order to drink.

My drinking is a personal choice, I don’t do it because all my friends do, and I don’t do it to, “fit in.” I could have still hung out with my friends if I didn’t drink, and they wouldn’t have genuinely pressured me to do so. I do it because I like to, not because MTV tells me it’s cool.
And I’m not sexually active. Again, I’ll be honest, it’s not a moral choice, it’s that I haven’t found a woman that I want to have sex with. I’m not going to wear clothes I don’t like and get some kind of faggy hair cut just because, “Girls like it.” Good, you can have those vapid twats; I don’t want ‘em. I’m not going to make so many sacrifices to get laid, I’m sorry, it’s not that important to me.

People in my classes were actually of the opinion that reading, in any form (aside of course for text messages) was “dumb” and had “No point.” People of my generation WANT to be uninformed, it’s like they pine for ignorance. The only students in my school that saw ANYTHING wrong with the patriot act were either friends of mine, or honor students.
“Well, if the president thinks it’s a good idea, it must be, he’s the leader for a reason.” Yeah, ok. In order to qualify for my American History final, you had to get 100% of the questions on a pre-test correct. These were not hard question. In fact, any legal immigrant knows these. One of the questions was, and I’m not making this up, “What country did we win independence from?” People got this wrong. Oh wait, it gets worse, the very next question, “What document declared that independence?” People actually left this blank, because they didn’t know. But that’s alright, because they could all kill a sixer and not be completely sloshed.

I’m sick of being grouped in with people who think Paris Hilton and Jay-Z are role models, and people to emulate.
“Paris Hilton acts like an idiot, then that must be the thing to do!”
“50 Cent thinks doing drugs and treating women like shiz is cool? Well then, so do I!”
That seems to be the mantra of farking teenagers today, if you see it on popular media, than it must be cool. I don’t know if I was just surrounded by morons, or it really is the generation as a whole, but I’ve known so many people who will say the dumbest damn thing, just to attract attention to themselves. It’s not like these people are really that stupid, it’s that they think that’s the way to be, an air headed nit-wit. People are actually using the amount of shiz they have as a barometer of how good they are as a human being. “I don’t need to know the capital of my state, I have a Lexus.”
“I’m might be borderline illiterate, but it’s okay, because I have the same cell phone as Paris Hilton.”

I’m surrounded by people whose idea of humor dead ends at wang and fart jokes. 90% of people I spoke to about the movie Clerks had either never seen it, or thought the only funny part was when Caitlin farked the dead guy. God for-farking-bid you have to think about humor, because then it’s just not funny. Call me a farking nut, but I’ll take subtle satire and sarcasm over some jock meanie eating a piece of dog shiz anytime. It still amazes me how many people get molested/raped/murdered via MySpace.com. I’m not wishing these fates on anyone, but come the fark on, how farking dumb do you have to be? Are you so farking brain dead and naïve that you think everyone on the internet is telling the truth?
“Well, he showed me a picture…”
Again, nobody lies over the internet, so if somebody shows you a picture, that’s who you automatically assume it is? If I changed the profile pics. here to show Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, would you think that’s who’s actually behind these farking rants? No, I think farking not. No one thinks anymore, because that’s hard, and it takes work, and it’s not cool. Yeah, that’s right.

The internet is a vast wealth of knowledge, and yet the only thing people my age use it for is a glorified telephone. The internet contains every text book, newspaper, and phonebook in existence, and if you can’t find it, there’s someone who can. But it’s limit is reached at AIM and Flash sites. Yes, the internet can be used for finding people with similar interest and taste, but that’s not the limit of its usage, expand your mind, be exposed to new ideas, and form your own, instead of just relying on the favorite fall back of our generation, “That’s gay” for everything you don’t understand. And read a farking book once in a while, it isn’t going to farking kill you.

So, in conclusion, if you were born between 1980 and 1989, there’s a real good chance that I want nothing to do with you.

I think Im going to have to agree that the 1991+ era is going downhill rather steeply. Up until about a month ago, Ive lived in the country for all my life, so I normally didnt hang out in town. One time I remember doing so, and I was at the Jr. High school and saw a massive amount of goths and girls with the whole 50% or less body coverage clothing on. Now Im pretty much used to seeing this since Im in HS, but I saw even more of it at the Jr. High! I was suprised the degrading lifestyle had already crept into the younger grades already.....

I agree with people who say, that the 1990+ generation is even worse.

I'm from it, but thank God i'm not like everyone else.
Somehow, i always thought the the generations before 1990 were better, and I wished i was born earlier, but now i see that i was wrong.
However the 1990+ generation is really bad, and most of the complaints for 1980-1989 generation apply to 1990+ and it's even worse, because i know some ppl in my class, you can call them dumb, u can call them idiots, and they just say "yes I am".
And it really sucks that girls, indeed, like those guys who always act like (or really are) idiots, who beat up weaker ppl, and drink to no end.

Other thing I really hate is all the ppl from 1990+ generation are afraid to do something else, something that is not popular. When you suggest them sth like that to do they just say: "What will others think about me?!", or "that's not cool".
The fear of "not being like all the others" is really annoying me.

I dislike that so much that i feel im starting not to like popular stuff that most of the be-like-everyone-else people do like. I don't like parties (I don't even think it's accurate to call them parties anymore, now it's just "drinking 'till u can't remember where u live"), I rarely, if at all, listen to music, i don't like basketball, which in my country is joked to be the "Second religion", in my country if u don't play basketball u are considered as a loser..

So i don't think that next generations will get any better, the ppl will just keep on getting dumber until their back to apes.

I do have some faith that people in the 1980+ generation are going to grow up (well, many if not most of them, anyway). There's a crapload of them that are mature already, even if you don't see them. Yes, they are a minority, but they're going to be the ones running the world, so you don't have to worry. I have a theory based on people living longer. We keep kids dependant on parents for so long. Elementary school used to be a suitable level of education. Then it was high school. Now there's college, and graduate schools. We keep the in educational institutions so long, living dependant on their parents, they simply choose not to grow up. Too bad Mommy and Daddy can't keep them on the respirator forever.

Holy shiz. I feel the exact same way as bun-bun. Bout time somebody said this O_O.

I was born in 1990 and so are a lot of my friends, but everyone --slightly-- older, like 16-18 are all total farking morons. Especially in school, I'm just walking by and hear kids like "YO HON! WHUTS DA 4-1-1??" And I think to myself "are they serious...?"
Everyone is dumb as a brick and doesnt care about anything. kids are proud of themselves if they're "only failing two classes this year, and really only 1 because math doesnt matter"

I feel that my generation is being generalised here. Every generation has its people who others think are going down the path of moral ruin etc. but are they really?

I dislike the promiscuity amongst some people in my generation - meaningless sex and the like are things which I cannot understand - but I'm not going to disown them for it. They can't help being how they are, most likely, and what if they're right and I'm wrong?
