It's a simple automatic instinct.
They tell you to hit the buttons as fast as you can, you'll automatically hit "e" once you see a white person or a good word. You will hit "i" if you see a black person or a bad word.
Then they switch it, you will obviously miss a few answers because your brain's automatic response hasn't changed yet.

I'm saying that if they did it the other way around, most of us would've gotten a slight preference towards black people.

that site discriminates....it should say that you hate these kind of people, not this race

"These kinds of people" and "These races" are the same thing, you twit.

Just face the fact that a UNIVERSITY WHO STUDIES THIS shiz, has proven you are subconciously RACIST towards a group of people.

Get over your egos for one damn second.

Calm down Kellimus, not everyone with a degree knows what they're talking about, though I think this test is relatively accurate.

The test was mostly right. I have a slight racial bias towards black people because I just really hate gangsta gangsta people (even if they are white, but mostly they are black).

It's obvious you haven't debated in these threads before, so i'll go easy, just this once.

Please explain why you hate these "pakis" (Which I do hope you mean Iraqies)

Nope, he means Pakistanis and the term he used is probably the most racist term you can use in the UK.

I knew what the result would be before I even took it. I do have a moderate preference for whites over blacks. Part of it is because of how I was raised. While my parents were not vocally racist, I could just tell that they were more likely to have poor opinions of black people when compared to white people. Also, when I was a kid, I remember a black guy trying to steal my dad's car. He was unsuccessful, but it still left quite an impression. Another reason is my experience. I've met more black people that I knew beyond doubt were criminals than I have white people.

However, the setting and their communication skills play a big part too. If I'm walking down the street, and 3 or 4 G'd out homies are walking my way, I'll be honest, I get nervous, keep my distance, and I try to avoid eye contact. But if I meet a black person in a more professional setting, and they are able to communicate clearly and don't dress like gansters, then I'm more than happy to work with them. Heheh, I guess you could say I prefer black people trying to be white...

Havard? These are probably from the same profs that think Canada's parliment is an igloo =P I would think racism is something you have to be very concious to commit. At least, anything that would have a significant effect. For example, it takes a whole lot of thinking to determine that you should hire a white guy over a black guy in the U.S. because the white guy most likely has rich parents who have passes genes onto him. Or to hire the black guy over the white guy because he will work for you longer as he has less opportunities than the white guy. Or to hire the black guy over the white guy because you don't want to seem racist (which ironically, makes you racist). If you didn't want to be racist at all in that situation, you would have to literally flip a coin. And that's not your job. Racism is an unfortunate part of the U.S.A. and many other countries, the only way to eliminate it, would be total equality between whites, blacks and all other races. Which no, the U.S.A. currently does not have.

Don't tell me you aren't because there will always have a tiny bit of it in you.
Move to Japan, they have literally no concept of race. My Anthropology teacher used to live in Japan, and he had a friend with very similar facial features. The only difference between them was that he was white and his friend was black (and still largly are, haha). They couldn't distinguish them from eachother (because for so long everyone has had the same skin colour in Japan, they just ignore all together that aspect of the person). This was during a discussion about what cue's we pick up as important, and what we ignore. To give you an example of something you might be able to relate to. Do you ever notice your teacher in class moving around a stack of books (I would answer no)? Do you notice when your teacher moves a T.V. (I would answer yes, because... MOVIE TIME YAY!)?

I finally took that test and I got the same answer. All I have to say is I think its a load of BS I dont treat white people better than black people and black people better than white.

The test is supposed to measure whoes company you prefer, not how you treat your company. But I have doubts in the accuracy of the test aswell.

Go to the above link, then choose the 'Race IAT' button. Follow the instructions, finish the test (10 minutes max) and post your results here, along with your thoughts on the question of subconscious racism/discrimination.

Sweet. If the test was about natives it would read somethin like:

And what doubts are these, and for what reasons?

Because you're curious, and not because it has anything to do with my argument, I will answer.

Black has in many cultures (if not all) been seen as a colour representing evil, or darkness, or something else to be scared of. While white has in many cultures (if not all) been seen as the colour representing good or something that takes away darkness. For example, Black magic = pain inflicting, white magic = healing in many video games. This has nothing to do with race, but it will make you tend to associate words with the two colours. It should be fairly obvious by now how this can affect the test.

Give the names of (in)famous black people, and (in)famous white people, and perhaps you will find results more along the lines of Martin Luther King "Good", Paul Bernardo "Bad", as apposed to "this word means two things".

I believe that's explaination enough.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HolySin on 2006-04-16 at 02:40:15
This isn't very accurate, especially the word and picture part, in fact, many of the questions don't allow you to be neutral. The test is more of a brain teaser. Suppose you changed it to jungle or forest rather than white or black. You'd still make mistakes since it tells you to do it as fast as you can. When the test switches stuff, your brain is still telling you to place things like they should be placed in the previous test.
