Staredit Network -> Lite Discussion -> Has Starcraft made you a better person?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-05-06 at 14:32:33
StarCraft by itself has not reallymade me a better person, it gives me somthing to do when ever I am bored!

Making Defense maps and other use map setting games that I have made, told me something about myself though. After making maps that are good, I decided that is what I want to do. I plan to make games and websites when I get older. All together I think that it gave me an oppurtunity, but I dont think of myself as a better person because I played it, I got better at the game though! smile.gif

Map making and melee... Do you think either one of them has had a profound effect on your life? Personally, I thank my friend for introducing me to Sc, as the game has opened my mind to creative concepts that I simply could not understand. What about you guys?

It makes it worse. There is no way a game can better your life. People get to into it and stop doing school or never get a job and live with their parents. It doesn't help me but i'm able to balance it in my life so it works out.

Well, you must be talking a specific group of people since not 100% of the population who play are irrisponsible as such and yes, there is a way a game can better your life, actually, in many ways. There are positive side effects and of course there are negative side effects as there is to almost anything.

There are more negative effects that video games give than positive effects. Unless you are counting those "learning" games with happy rabbits and ducks.

Nope. I don't know how a computer game can influence people so much but Starcraft has has no influence on my personality.

Well, not too much...just reminds me that to get a point across, you gotta stay patient because people are freaking retarted.

Playing D2 reminded me how evil and greedy people are. Is it really that hard to remember that it's a person behind that lvl 86 paladin that you just noobed a CTA from during a torch trade?

i've learned quick reaction and quick typing while playing broodwar, and I've learned how to strategize.

SC Made me a better person. First real game I played on the net. Then after 6 months of useless noob games, I learn about SEN.

I come here acting like a complete noob, playing with buttons and making useless polls. Then about 3 months later, I hit my little age of reason. I opened the map editor, and tryed to make a campain for my brother to try to beat that was rigged to hell.

Then, I play Quests Open RPG 1.1. Fastjack77 should be praised and shot for that map. Not only was it inovative at the time, at this time the triggers are so easy to do, you could have added so much more!

So I try my stab at greatness.

I grab a copy of SCX-Tra editor 2.5 and SCMDraft (The origional one! O_O) and start making a map. First problem, money triggers. Well it started pretty simple, and stupid. We made it work, but it wasn't fast or anything. About a week later, it dies.

Back into the hole again. So then one day I play a Day at School RPG, and get more inspiration. I get very far, but it dies too. Back to SEN for me.

Then I start to hear abotu such map makers as MilleniumArmy, bolt head, Tux, yoshi, and Panzer_Kavalier. It gets me going to the point where I wanna be just as good as them. (Still isn't working out for me yet, but its coming along!)

So I then try as hard as I can to make a wonderful map, and wouldn't you know it, my first and only map out so far comes out, Zombie Outpost.

Now as much as this was nothing compaired to Panzer's great Raccoon City, we still did something. Wouldn't you know it, people whispered us and prazed us. We were almost Semi-Famous.

Then my brother and I try our best at everything we can on the internet, including Flash, VB RPG's, etc.

Now here we are,

This conculdes 3 years of SC and my life. Now I am so liteate, and so knolageble, while having quick timing and such. SC Changed me forever.

I really don't think I can become a better person through a video game.

It hasn't impacted me much.

It's not the video game itself, it's the community.

Starcraft was infact very very popular about 5 years ago where all this new stuff wasnt around, we had pretty decent maps in our own eyes etc.
most map ideas now adays are either taken or just cant be arsed to do all of them.

I agree with maran on that one... Maps are all made the same now.. until you see a miscellanious genre map come out or even a really cool campaign.. but chances are the maps are using a technique or basic idea that's been used various times beforehand. I suppose things seemed more 'fresh' than they do now because of time and repetetiveness combined. Who couldn't see that coming? Hah!

Well it helped me with my typing , grammar, spelling, vocabulary and a better understanding of idiots who play on Battle.net. The Stareditor they proivded also helped me understand some concepts of gaming and sometimes how hard it is to make a Campaign or a map.
