Map making and melee... Do you think either one of them has had a profound effect on your life? Personally, I thank my friend for introducing me to Sc, as the game has opened my mind to creative concepts that I simply could not understand. What about you guys?

That + Problem Solving (since it's a limited language, you have to bypass things that come up) + Allowance of following syntax. Noone but the one who's programmed before and me in my SQL class understand that syntax MUST be followed. + Found SEN which has greatly improved my typing skills and writing ability.

Starcraft Map making has gotten me really interested in designing stuff, like games.

SEN has increased my knowledge of the important things in life (particularly places like the Serious Discussion forum)

Yes, mostly programming and problem solving. How much you can do with simple tools happy.gif.

Edit: And, as Kow said, taught me, through SEN, the importance of proper grammar and all that on the web and on forums tongue.gif.

Amen.

If you had to have SC spark your creativeness, you have issues.

You all need tissues.

No. I hate SC because there are to many idiots playing now. When I was younger, it was way cooler. No IDIOTS were playing. Bounds were never there, and either were "FaStEsT mAp EvEr1!1!" crap, either.

I hate all you StarCraft twinks.

I've been interested in Programming since Freshman year of High School, so no.

I've been wanting to make games since I was 8. So no.

We didnt need SC to spark it, but it just happened to do so. You need anger management Kellimus, your blood pressure might get too high and you could have heart attacks in the future.

people who haven't experienced what I have from SC are missing out

That's why you play on private servers like the PGTour and WGTour ones.

They play real maps (not money maps, but real, skilled maps better than LT) and people are there only to game, not to boost their ego or taunt at noobs. And you will probably be pitched against very many 1337 players who would probably show you the true art of Starcraft. Not to mention that the average age there is like 18-19 unlike on battle.net which is like 14-15.

I have been interested in programming since 1st grade (when I started HTML programming).

SC didn't spark my creativeness, it just helped me develop better programming habits - specifically, making lots of backups, make small incremental changes and the importance of comments. tongue.gif

It helped me excel my tactical ability, which is completely useless. I guess it helps with problem sovling abilitites, but not really.

But you're also 4 years younger than me tongue.gif We didn't have the ability to learn HTML or anything like that wink.gif

No, starcraft itself has not changed me at all. The SC public is pure idiot. Although, visiting SeN helped me. I learned a lot of stuff by reading Serious/Lite discussion. But, playing SC extremely decreased my ability to ignore idiots.

So far, making my campaigns have proven to be good exercises in story writing and problem solving. So in a vague sense, yes, I guess you could say it's bettered me.

It's gotten me away from society, so yes.

It's made me learn how to channel my obsessive thinking. Before I would worry about things 24/7. Now I just think about things 24/7.

Yeah actually, learning the map making process has been a large pool for my creativity. I always wanted to put music in my maps; I made music for my maps.
Thought movies I'd like to make; made a map that was the same.

And then being introduced to Staredit.net...
It has introduced me to 100's of opinions and debaters. Basically I've learned how to be less ignorant and be a better debater because of Staredit.net smile.gif

Yup.

Bnet reminds me of how lame people can be and how you can't change them, but you can change the way you respond to them, so perhaps it's helped me become more laid back.

Nope. I don't know how a computer game can influence people so much but Starcraft has has no influence on my personality.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2006-05-06 at 02:06:41
I don't think StarCraft has made me a better person. However, I would have to say that map making has. I just don't keep up with purely internet friends anymore. My real friends are more than enough for me. Still, map making has taught me a bit about precision, tedium, and the great art of storytelling.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by JaFF on 2006-05-06 at 02:58:58
maybe map making imprroved my patience somehow, but not much.

SC ? it's just a game for me & i don't play it that often anyway.
