Yes! Done! Version 1.2 is here! biggrin.gif
I corrected all bugs you and the others pointed out, and a few more that basically make the campaign harder.

Kurz991, the file is 90mb (92mb now) because it has custom unit speech, voice dialogues in all missions, and custom music in a few.

What did ya think of the music and my dialogues, overrall?

Will u make a better version then 1.2? Cuz i wanna play this but i prefer to wait until the final version.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ireng on 2006-06-25 at 13:30:13
Well, honestly, I corrected all bugs reported and that I could find. The campaign should be pretty stable, now that the biggest flaws (like mission 5 that had 2 cloned heroes) are gone and a few more thingies that impove playability (such as difficulty) have been implemented.

Says I have to wait an hour to download this.... yek

It's a free file hosting server... I'm sorry.

Changes in 1.2 are as follows:
Mission 1:
- Deleted the Dark Templar that was there for testing purposes
- Increased Zerg difficulty

Mission 2:
- Greatly increased Zerg attacking numbers and switched Guardians for Mutalisks.

Mission 3:
- Increased difficulty

Mission 4:
- While playing the Terran part, restricted movement to the right side of the map.
- Made mission flow more clear for the player.

Mission 5:
- Corrected Disc 3's ownership so you can pick it up.
- 'Second hero' has been removed (sorry for that).
- Beacons now are properly removed.
- Greatly increased overrall difficulty.

Mission 6:
- Fixed a bug where Archons and High Templar would stack in middle island forever.
- Warp Gates now come with full hit points.
- Made mission flow more clear for the player.

Mission 8:
- Reduced the Avenger's shield
- Fixed bug where Avenger could be killed and mission would continue.

Also, SEMPQ is now included in the Zip.

Did you make it so you don't attack the avenger when you lose control of it? If you don't want to change this, my advice would to be sure to CLEARLY specify that you do attack the avenger when you lose control of it, so the players can be extra cautious in what they place around their shield batteries.

Also, even though I thought the overall story was awesome and was what made the campaign as good as it was, I think the ending references to the last protoss campaign were kind of bad. The problem is is that we actually played and witnessed the Uraj and Khalis crystal scene, it wasn't just a story that these new heroes could be lost in history to. That's just my opinion.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ireng on 2006-06-26 at 15:52:16
Well, you can adapt it to this thought: One of your zealots used while retrieving the crystals was Colovan. Only you didnt' notice tongue.gif
And yes, players now cannot attack the Avenger.

That file size can undoubtedly scare some potential players, not to mention that not everyone has 80GB computers yet. But I'll help a fellow mapper here.

25 minutes remaining for the download to finish, and I also need to play the entire campaign...I'll give you the reviews tomorrow or Friday. Would you like me to review each individual map, or the entire campaign as a whole? Or better yet, do both?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ireng on 2006-06-29 at 09:38:39
Both would do wonders, but I doubt I can take so much time from you without being severely punished by karma.

Wow, that's a huge file. I'll start downloading now.

I wish I could hear you custom music, but my speakers decided to stop putting out sound yesterday. sad.gif

Avenger Campaign

Made by:

Genre: Melee Campaign

Maps: 9

So it looks like we have a fully-voiced campaign. Awesome.

Story: The story was a bit slow at first, and the last several missions seemed a bit rushed. You did a good job on the overall development on the characters, so kudos for that. The campaign flowed from mission to mission pretty well, and I enjoyed the story, despite some flaws and inconsistencies with the actual storyline.

Terrain: I actually didn't pay attention too much to the terrain, since I was busy microing and all that, but the general effect seems pretty convincing. One thing I'll have to critisize is the mineral placement. Some of the placements were rather outrageous, and almost in a comical form. Just keep a simple rigged line for the mineral placements and that should be fine. Don't try anything experimental on that, since it can frustrate players due to some horrible income.

Mission Breakdown:

Mission 1: This mission follows the footsteps of the Protoss Campaign IV, mission 1, except it leads into some standard base and a mission to bring the hero Zealot to the Fleet Beacon. Nice usage of the beacon term. Fairly good difficulty, and overall, not bad. But just as a note, have the mission objectives be set before the end of the briefing. But that's a minor problem. Wait a second, isn't Antiga under Zerg control? Oh well.

Mission 2: Er...strength is misspelled during the briefing. By deus, three Zerg comps after me, and I only have 10 patches to work with? Not to mention several Ultralisks being thrown at me. Eventually, even Guardians joined in the fray. I was pretty glad that I didn't see any Defilers. Nevermind. I got plagued now. Ouch. This mission was a killer. You might want to either tone down the difficulty a bit, or maybe limit the Zerg tech tree, because I'm seeing quite an amount of hive tech units right now. After the fleet failed you arrive, you should've signified something to the player, just to keep him in the game. Or reduce the waiting time, because I was still being bombarded with Ultralisks and Mutalisks, with no minerals left. That was...scary. One more thing. I don't like the mineral placement for the main.

Mission 3: Allright was misspelled. Personally, I don't think the Terran voice needed to be altered that much. He sorta sounds like a...Protoss, and I'm sure that's not the effect you wanted. This mission was alot better. Two expos and alot of minerals to support dual races. Great. Some explaination as to how you got your hands on Carriers would be nice though.

Mission 4: Some more story errors. I thought the Conclave was destroyed by now. Unless news didn't get to the hero Zealot yet (Er...I keep forgetting his name). This mission was strange to finish. I had no clue where the entrance to the complex was, so I decided to quit the mission and start Mission 5.

Mission 5: Er...wasn't this a Protoss installation? What are Terrans doing here? And by the way, either disable Hallucination or enable it. I don't like seeing greyed out abilities in these sort of missions. And wow, that Terran Ghost who opened the door was hilarious. Amusing voice, to say the least. Hm...Goliaths in an installation are alright, but tanks and vultures are sort of...out of place. And one more thing. Move the location a bit, because the last beacon spawn isn't exactly perfectly in place. I was about to quit the game, assuming that it was a bug, until Colevan (is that his name? You get what I'm saying) moved closer to the wall.

Mission 6: Er...there's a bug here. The mission started and I won. Ha...ha. But yea, that's a big problem. I like how you used Twilight as a night version of desert. But...the terrain should be a bit more similar to the way it was back in mission 4. Not very consistent...

Mission 7: Oh man, I guess I missed alot by the error in Mission 6. A Dark Archon and a High Templar to summon this Avenger...hm...

Mission 8: Yes! An Archon that does 666 damage! That made everything much simpler, as I could easy rush and take most things out. Darn, that Terran guy was pretty cool too. Er...that's all I have to say about this mission.

Mission 9: The recollective monologues on both sides were pretty good. The ending was undoubtedly quite satisfying. I would have to say that the conclusion is the opus magnus of the campaign, as everything builds into it. Although the actual ending scenario is a bit anti-climatical, the monologues make up for that, and all is well again. The name Maurice seems familiar. Oh well, I'll find out in the sequel.

Originality: Hm...betrayal, misunderstanding, and friendship, all in nine missions. It included some cliche scenarios, but of course, what story doesn't include it? It's a good thing that you didn't force out the names, making them sound very unnatural, so there's another plus. The voice acting was alright, although sometimes, the voices get muddled a bit, and some things become unclear. However, the distinction between a Protoss and a Zerg unit was pretty good, and so you get brownie points on that. Of course, I'm nota sound technician, so I have no clue as to how that works. Also, some lines weren't very...convincing as to their current situation. Add some more emotion in it and exaggerate their lines.

Despite some imbalances in the campaign, let it be too easy or too difficult, the overall storyline is quite a fun one. Of course, campaigns are all for the storyline nowadays, and this is what it accomplishes. Although the large file size may discourage some, it's still worth your time for some storytelling and kicking ass in melee.

Rating Factors:
Story - 8/10
Terrain - 5/10
Missions - 6/10
Originality - 7/10

Other Factors:
Replay Value -3/10
Fun Factor - 5/10
Difficulty - 7/10

6.5 / 10.0 - Overall

And if you're thinking what sort of grading scale I'm using, 5/10 is average, rather than 7/10. Personally, I don't like the academic grading scale, because anywhere from 1-6 is so obsolete in such a case. So that means 6/10 is already above average to some extent.

Ohhh crap I just checked map 6 and fixed the bug.
If you would like to correct it, open it with StarEdit, go to triggers, scroll to the very last one, and change the Switch conditions for the two switches from clear to set.

If not, simply re-download mission 6, which I'm uploading as we speak.

Regarding the review. First, thanks a lot for playing till the end, and a lot more for typing a review. It feels nice to see that someone puts so much attention into something you create.

The story doesn't take place at the time of Campaign IV, but rather inbetween SCand Brodd War. Hence the Conclave is still alive and the Protoss are still in Aiur.

The reason for the dialogues is that, well, I'm from south America. I speak english as good as I can (studied and lived in London for a while) but when I try to imitate other accents, I'm not that good. The difference between DeVerran and Lomalaris (the Judicator, remember?) is clear.

Mission 2: Dear friend, if I'm not wrong, there are more mineral patches to the east of the main base for you to harvest. I calculated resources to last till the very end.

Mission 3: DeVerran's voice is my own, only that it sounds "virtual".

Mission 4: The entrance is south of the complex itself. You can see two opened hangars. Just bring the required guys there to win.

Mission 5: The Terran Lieutenant's voice is also mine, without changes, I only raised the frequency. Glad it sounded funny, it was my goal.

Maurice is the name of one of my friends. You will hear from him as I've already begun the second story.

Thanks, I hope even more people try the campaign.

Well, I only to mission 3 before I got bored, but the first two missions were actually quite fun; I just like melee much better. Compliments: nice voiceovers, so far the storyline is interesting.

Suggestions:
-mineral placement is atrocious
-terrain is bland

M1: I succeeded in acquiring an invincible dragoon simply by making it run away when the lings appeared, and it would help if the hero was a separate color

M2: spelling mistake in briefing (strength), and it is “estimated time of arrival” no “estimated arrival time” The mission is also impossible… without cheats (there were simply not enough resources) And the mission didn’t end. Was it because I destroyed the entire zerg base? biggrin.gif

Keep up the good work! This campaign is very close to being excellent; right now, it is a good campaign brooding with potential

Ok ok in mission 2 when the timer ends keep on waiting for five more minutes and you will eventually win.
Remember to dl the temporary mission 6 fix which is here.
Thanks for playing!

ADDITION:
Version 1.3 updated today. Changes are few, but critical:

Mission 1:
- Players can no longer acquire an invincible Dragoon

Mission 2:
- Doubled mineral quantity for player
- Zerg players now cannot use Defilers, Guardians, or weapon/armor upgrades
- Corrected some wrong text such as "strenght"

Mission 6:
- Mission now starts properly instead of instantly declaring player victory

After leaving this topic alone for such a long time, I think I'm just going to make a bu nch of suggestions for your second campaign I believed you mentioned you wanted to do.

I bet a second campaign by you will be better, actually. I suggest that you suggest a fastest game speed instead of normal in your next campaign, since most people would probably enjoy it more on fastest. I did normal for the first few and then was like.. screw it, I'm going fastest.

The biggest suggestion I have to make for your next campaign is to simply playtest the maps over and over when you create them, so they end up being really polished and balanced. The dark templar and the extra hero zealot were obvious examples of lack of playtesting, but it was also prevelent in the gameplay. Set a desired difficulty for yourself and stick to it, and you can regulate it by simply playing the maps more and making the changes as needed. One of the impressions I remember receiving was that you were more of a starcraft player making a campaign more than a starcraft mapmaker, simply because it wasn't as polished as it needed to be. This actually takes a little away from the gameplay and the story, because it's not as fun when you are encountering enemies far too easy or bugs are occuring. Well, good luck with your next map.

Very nice campain, im presently (yes my starcraft is opened tongue.gif) to mission 4, with terran only, and I found a bug :

You enabled the science facility but it require a starport to be build (rofl) so upgrad lv 2 & 3 cannot be reach

I loved the mission #2 (so fun uberwoot.gif ), at the end I was desesperate blushing.gif , <3 rescuer lol

EDIT : Still Mission 4, Toss side... Arbiter Tribunal has not been disabled (and we cant make it )

RE-EDIT : Still Mission 4, Toss side, only with the 2 dark templar of the beginning (and few upgrad), you can kill the 2 command center... easy :S (need to kill few turret)

you should put harder comp's AI

Really? I forgot to disable the Arbiter Tribunal? That's silly from me. Gotta check it out.

Mission two completed.
By the way, I need a voice for a new Protoss Character. Any one who would volunteer? I promise little harm in the production process.

You're doing a 2nd campaign ? or just modifying The Avenger ?

Mission 8 with the Avenger... I just went straight to the Overmind and killed sunkens around then the overmind... 4:05 first time, without seeing the .scx lol

Mission 6, sometimes there is the "unapplicable unit" dragoon (bottom warp gate)... you could just put a simple condition (bring at least # dragoon) to prevent this cause it is disagreeable to hear (at least it's not a madness happy.gif)
