I still haven't looked at the campaign editor. To be blunt, it looks too hard. But I do play starcraft occasionally

Wow, was I the only one who didn't scure the help file for info? tongue.gif
I did look at it to learn the specifics of a few triggers(i.e. that it checks every 2 seconds), but that's about it.

I mean, it's simple. Almost all the triggers, with a couple of exceptions, are self-explanitory.
And the unit editor, too.

I got into making maps by when I was on Starcraft I always wanted to know what the Campain Editor does. When I foundout I started to play with the Controls as I played with them I tested them. Then I started to learn how to use the Trigers and everything. When I found out there was all kinds of map editors. I wanted to find a really nice one. When I joined the Wol[f] Clan. Leader_Wol[f] told what editor I needed then. Thats how I got the X-Tra editor. Took about a few weeks to know the new stuff now. Thats how I got into making maps. I wanted to make some nice USE MAP SETTINGS. and some MELEE games too. But now I only make USE MAP SETTINGS maps.

I probably started when I first realized that on the Sc menu screen it said Campaign Editor, so i started making non-trigger maps with lots of units. Then I found Locations, Triggers etc..., After that I found other editors and stuff.

I think it was a whiele back when my friend showed me how to change units health and stuff and put them in a map and play it like melee but in UMS. Then like at the very beginning of the game fly into his base with a censored.gif load of battlcruisers.

After taht I tried to learn it myself and found out about all the other stuff.

I started playing Starcraft by trying it out in an internet cafe. I played in single against 1 comp. I got the hang of it quickly. I was Zerg and the comp was Protoss. I was killed by 2 Zealots. If only i had spawned 2 Zerglings and morphed my Creep Colony into a Sunken. I fell in love with the game. I'm not hooked. I can go without playing for a long time. The longest I went without playing was 9 months. Anyway, I tried the editor after I bought the game in english. It was so easy to use. I made maps where you have to dig through to get to you opponent. The resources were all normal except the Mineral in the way of the paths to you enemies (they had 8 mins each). It sucked. I kept getting better. I heard about and downloaded Xtra Editor 2.5 and one of the first version of SCMdraft. SCMdraft was able to open protected maps but set all terrain to null. I updated to Xtra Editor to 2.6. I kept getting better until I became what I am now. Now I have 4 editors and have created many god and decent maps (most are 50% complete or less). Recently, I joined clan GOP.

Before Xtra I had to use Guedit and Zap Placer... Xtra was a Godsend.

I remember the old mapping days... I still didn't know most of the tricks...

Now it's not tricks or techniques... Mainly the problem is finding a good idea for a map.

To the non-mappers: Play a game you really like and open it up. Try fooling around with it and play online. The first few times I did it felt GREAT. Then once you get the hang of it... you can make your own maps! Maps is like an art you can share with many people. It's great because there's so much freedom as what you can do... So try it out, I guarantee it will change your life... it did to me.

I mainly got SC for the campaign editor. I have never seen something like it on any game that I have played, and I like the amount of creativity you can put into it.

After playing it for 2 years, my father and I just decided to make our own melee map. Then we started playing ums, became upsessed with defense games. We would always play them and give suggestions on how the game could be better or cheanged. One thing led to another and we started making defence maps.
