Oh that, I think that even I know more that they do. I added the list of things I have already tried but they just repeated the things listed there over and over.

Oh and also they told me to download outdated drivers for my video card and see if that works. I tried it, and of course it didn't work.

Thats all they said, after that nobody posted in it. Didn't sound like they want or know how to fix that. sad.gif

Yeah, a problem with them is that they copy/paste their responses when it sounds liek they have a problem, without really answering them personally... sad.gif

Good luck man, not really sure what you can do..

I just found a free port and pluged in my old HD. Although most of the info is lost, the SC folder is still there. But it lags even from the old HD. So it's not my new HD's fault for sure. Still no SC for me, but at least got my old maps back, I can't play them with anyone though. cry.gif

I have a P4 630 @ 3.0 GHz, 2x512 mb of DDR533 memory, and it says StarCraft consumes 45% of the CPU and 4 mb of the memory.

Man, I'm really desperate. Because I have no idea what next to do, I have tried everything that came in my mind and nothing helped. I don't even know whats causing this lag. Help please.

Well, I don't know how you clean spyware and viruses, but I'd give this a run if you haven't.

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Also, try using HijackThis! to see if any other programs and such might be interfering.

What OS are you running? Do you use any gateway-switching program? Did you try connecting using other protocols SC allows? (UDP,TCP/IP,direct cable etc?)

I used to have the same problem, there's 2 things you should do if you want to fix it

1. deleate the bncache file in your starcraft folder, it slows down all connections on b.net if it gets too big.
2. get some more RAM (Random Access Memory) for your computer, it's what makes programs run faster.

WinXP, I tested PvPgn gateways and they lagged too, but they use a loader. I use lan all the time to test maps, but I can't connect to B.net via them, you know.

1 - Din't help as my SC folder is fresh.
2 - My RAM(256) is fine, as SC worked all right with it before.

When you re-installed SC did it leave behind any files from the original installation?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-07-17 at 12:19:06
No, I lost my HD with all my files. I installed a fresh starcraft.

I mean when/if you reinstalled after finding out it lagged.

no wonder you have problems, starcraft requires about 320 killibytes of ram tongue.gif

I still don't know why you didn't lag on the old hard drive, maybe it was quicker than the new one making up for the RAM

Yea, I left the maps folder, because I didn't want to DL and unprotect my own maps hosted here again(lazy ass). But didn't start to lag, it lags from the moment I fist time entered B.net since the new HD.

Eh? Where's that at? I dont' really ahve the box anymore : / I have 1 BW cd though biggrin.gif.

I don't think that SC requires 320Mb of RAM lol, that manu years ago they didn't even have such a big RAMs for sale lol.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Demon on 2006-07-17 at 12:40:12
Eh i'm looking at the system requirments on the back of my BW cd and it says like 16 MB RAM, idk. Go ahead and recheck to make sure you have all the requirements just to make sure ;o.

C'mon, he can run HL2 just fine, so I think it is *reasonable* to admit that he meets the SC requirements too wink.gif
Where did you install SC?Program Files or a custom folder?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2006-07-18 at 10:13:01
Custom folder. I Have my HD divided in 2 parts:
C: system(20Gb) - windows, drivers, system stuff and some programs.
D: Data(90Gb) - Everything else like games, music, documents.

C part have only enought space so the OS can run without any trouble.

I had similar settings with my old HD, except it was total 20Gb large. C and D had both 10Gb and were both stuffed to like 90%. I thinks thats why the C part with OS died lol.

Your Classification:

Win XP
256 RAM
20+90=110 GB HardDrives

BroodWar Classifications:

Win 95 (or 98 i forgot)+
16/18+ RAM
About 1/2 Gigs

Comparison:

Everything is overrated

WTF is going on:

Shutdown your comp for at least 30 minutes
Turn on and go into BIOS Setup
Set Up CPU Speed to: NO OVERCLOCK, 80% CPU Usage Max
Save Exit.
And that should be it.

Results:

Should be you want! (if not ask someone older than 10 that knos electronics!)

Ok, thanks I'll try it put tommorow.

okay, i read the beginning of this, so im starting from what I read.
my cpu usage is always around 1 or 2%
but if a flood over 6000 proxies happens in a clan I'm in (usually pretty rare) even if I'm on client it starts freezing and gets very laggy (my whole comp) until I restart my comp, and its NOT the ram, I have 2 gb of it. maybe thats the problem.. dunno lol...

oh, and sc is a really old game, I don't know why so many of you are getting such high cpu usage...
1 more thing, "I believe I discovered what is the reason for the terrible lag I'm having on Battle.net since I lost my HD." your hd probably has something wrong with it... and maybe some kind of software (e.g. VB) u dont have.. but then again.. you can run all those other games.. so it's pretty weird. I know this 1 guy, some time ago he would spoof his name name and go into every game I go, then lag the game until we left... so I just switched accounts... Might b e what you need to do =)

Vi3t_Xб, I didn't even find suchy options in my BIOS. pinch.gif

HackOrDie, I just enter B.net with no other aplications running, click join and enter a game, it lags like there is no tomorrow. sad.gif

I edited my post btw, about some people who are just madly addicted with hacking
and clan dk (1 of the clans I chill in) is having a flood right now... they happen so often these days
