I believe I discovered what is the reason for the terrible lag I'm having on Battle.net since I lost my HD.
After dozens of hours trying to solve the lag and optimizing my computer and drivers, I noticed that whenever I run my starcraft the CPU usage goes up to 100% and stays there till I shut SC off. Even Morrowind, CS or other bigger games doesn't eat up more than 80% of them in average.
Anyway, now when I know what could be the problem, I need to find a way to fix it. Because SC really shouldn't eat it all like that, it's some kind of bug I think. Anyone knows where I should start?
For those who doesn't know what lag I'm talking about here is the quote.

I have been experiencing some weird lag in battle.net after I lost my hard drive. My net works as before everywhere except Starcraft. In offline modes SC runs normally, as well as in channels. But when I join a game or someone joins my game the nightmare begins. It lags like theres no tomorrow, fps is like 1 or 0.5. HorroR and few other testers suffered the same stuff when played with me.
Here is what I tried/did:
- Re-install Starcraft
- Latest SC patch
- Latest video card drivers
- Latest hardware drivers for everything
- Turned off firewall
- Deleted bncache file
- Scanned/cleaned for spyware and viruses
- Cleaned my SC folders
- I don't have a router.
- I don't have a dial-up
- Running no other programs except SC
- Cleaned wiondows services
- Cleaned startup
- Asked for support at Bizzard open-support forums
I once had the following bug:
There is a prgramm called Guitar Pro. I used the version 4, then the fiths version came out. As soon as it did, I installed it, and for reasons you don't want to know, I had to remove it. After that, I wanteed to install it again, and it didn't work. The reaon was that the old one left some kind of "trace" after itself, that interfiered with the new one.
Sorry, I don't fully understand what was it and I'm not very computer-wise educated, but that's what I was told.
Maybe you have something like this...
I don't get it, I have a new HD.
My CPU usage does exactly the same thing, so I wouldn't say that's much of a hint.
Are you connecting to battle.net through a proxy?
My CPU usage also jumps up to 100%. But I don't get any lag.
My CPU usage is usually around 40-50%...
My CPU Usage on Starcraft is usually 10% while running winamp, msn, and ventrilo...
the usage in CS though is 60% every time..
Have you tested your internet to see if you get lag or slowness anywhere else? Or is it just StarCraft?
Yea, but what the hell is causing the lag? This is like hell of the SC player.
Well, whatever internet you have set up.. disconnect it completely and shut your computer for at least a minute. Make sure all the wires are tight on the internet connection and other stuff, then reboot. You might also want to open up your computer and physically clean stuff out, dust and other nasty stuff builds up over the years.
But my connection is fine, I play Half-life and CS 100% lag-free and download segment files with 250Kbyte/s speed. I don't think it's my connection. I mean everything except Starcraft is working all right. I cleaned my PC from dust after my HD died, and I don't think it's too dusty after few months already. The only thing I can imagine is that it's SC's fault somehow. At first I though it's my old cd that is causing the lag, but them I got a brand new .iso(virtual cd) and it still lags. I have tried so many things, so many, that it's not funny anymore.
You could reformat your drive...
Other than that, i don't know what to say.
but, I already have a fresh drive. I installed SC in the first weeks and it lagged already.
You can't get your old hard drive in, can you?
Do you have like an ipod or anything you can run it off of (since it's another hard drive)? (That's what I d)
My old HD is signed "bad" and I actully lack the ports to plug it in lol. Have no iPod either. Do you think it's my new HD's fault that SC lags?
Crack open your computer case a recheck all the connections, even if they look good tighten them more.
I see no reason why a faulty connection would only affect Starcraft, and not any other games..
Let's give some legitimate advice or none at all =\

Your joking, aren't you?
I really want to play some Starcraft, I miss it so much.
Buy Starcraft 64
Single player doesn't even work?
Single player and battle.net when I'm alone works all right. But once there are at least 2 players, it lags like there is no tomorrow. Even on private servers(B.net emulations).
That really sounds like a firewall/router problem...
You sure you don't have Windows Firewall on?
I am now, but I turned it off, tested, and it still lagged, And I don't even have a router.
Hrmm...
