I don't think it will ever die. And by dead I mean 0 people on bnet. Long after sc is no longer popular, you will still be able to log on and play with the other dozen people.

Even when sc2 comes out, i think sc will still be played a fair bit. Look at Wc3, it came out and there are still plenty o' people on bnet.

It be fun to log onto Battle.net and see only like 12 people on SC playing 2 games...And they'd all hang out in 1 channel...that be sweet...less the faggots on Battle.net w00t.gif

I believe that starcraft has lived a long life and still has more to go. When starcraft 2 comes out (supposidly) players will flock towards but it will be like warcraft 3. People will like starcraft better beacuse of everything we have started and have still going on. The only way i think starcraft can die is if the program becomes obsolete, blizzard goes out of businees (but i doubt that), or blizzard pulls the plug.

Dead? Have you checked out the progaming scene in Korea??

Will you check the progaming scene when Sc2 comes out?

Depends which scene Ill be looking for; if its for bw, then sure, itll probably die. But progaming in SC2 will probably explode like a cooked grenade with a hint of lime.

Im going with starcraft will die when SC2 comes out...even the map maker will go there im guessing because i bet the new editor will be much more advanced.

People are always going to be on battle.net, even in 2020 I bet 20000+ people will be on it.

Nah I don't think in 2020 people will even touch Starcraft.
Games don't last more than 15 years and thats a fact.

look at the games you played back when you were a kid in 94/95 those games can't be played anymore cause of the OPSystem.
My WinXP can't run Wc2.

Starcraft won't die. Don't be naive. Will it lose a lot of fans? Sure. Will it always have a decent sized fan base? Definitely. Any game which reaches the status of "classic" will live forever. Look at Doom. Doom still has a fervent community of followers, numbering in the thousands. And Doom is ancient. Same with Wolf3d. Look at Diablo. Despite it's age, and the superior sequel, there are still a good number of people still playing it. People will always enjoy the classics. Look at all the new, flashy, hitech thrillers released in theaters these days. Yet people still love to pop Scarface and the Exorcist into the VCR. Classics can't die. SC2 will DEFINITELY not kill SC.

Long live Starcraft! For Aiur!

Wc3 has an even better editor than SC and it has more posibilities 2.
Thing is wc3 editor is kinda hard to understand.
Took me only a week to understand Sc editor but wc3 editor i still don't figure out the triggers.

OK peeps before we get off topic/wind up trashing Warcraft 3 I would like to say that Starcraft will eventually fade out and die but it definitely wont be soon. As long as there are mapmakers as dedicated as us that really enjoy adding to Starcraft, it will never truly die...

Waits for gratuitous applause for such an uplifting and inspirational speech. happy.gif

Anyways...Starcraft has about 15+ years ahead of it....

No, SC has an infinite number of years ahead of it. The large fanbase will dwindle, but it will always have hardcore fans. Always. Did Mario 64 kill off the NES Mario games? No. Did Ocarina of Time kill of the old classic Zelda games? No. Classics can not die. Only lose a little popularity.

Times change...and when times change...So does the input in classic games...Whereas a game company Re-created a classic game and added a few graphics and stuff....The classic is always better...Look at Pac-man 3d and all those other paac-man games...then play the arcade one..which one do you have more fun with smile.gif

Exactly. Which is why SC will never die, despite sequels or whatever.
