Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> Games -> How Many Years Does Starcraft Have Left?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2004-07-30 at 13:06:59
I've been thinking Starcraft is a fairly old game.
Starcraft Vanilla was released back in '98 and brood War in '99.
The game has 6 years and is still going strong, but how strong is it.

I used to remember when there were about 150k users of SC logged on in B.net at one time.
Now you barely see 100k.
Is Starcraft starting to die out.
Diablo II didn't steal much SC players.
Warcraft II stole a little more than DiabloII but it's a loss.

Starcraft dosen't get much attention from blizzard any more...
With WoW coming soon theres bound to be some players going to WoW
Starcraft Ghost seems to be coming in about 2 years.

I think Starcraft has only a few years left, until it becomes like Diablo 1 where less than 600 players are logged on and Wc2 is even less.

Without SC2 coming out anytime soon and that Many of the Big Makers of Starcraft left Blizzard, I ask myself, It's not will Starcraft die out, It's more of When.

StarCraft wont' die out evar! as long as a site like this exists, we will always have players..and it would be nice if there were only 600 people on battlenet if you know what i mean HEHEHEHHEHE

But what will happened with SC when SC 2 will exits?

I belive that SC will still be strong when SC2 comes out, since you'll still only be able to make bound maps and things like that on regular SC, since I'm assuming Blizzard would have SC2 in 3D.

It isn't really starcraft anymore. Starcraft died about 2 years ago.

The map making is what makes starcraft alive and breathing. You'd get sick of the same maps if staredit weren't here wink.gif

I remember the first time i really played sc, the robust world, the cinematics, mmm good times, gooood times.

I think it'll last forever (Or a long while, whichever seems more resonable), because I don't think people who play WOW are going to like the "Keep Paying Us After You've Bought The Game" Engine (Monthly Charge) Starcraft Ghost will be awesome anyways, so I think more people will get into Starcraft/Starcraft2/Starcraft Ghost because of the new releases and they want to see what its like.

Very true Yoshi, I was thinking in something similar.

The true Starcraft was Ladder competition on B.net, that rarely happens now as the ladder is all hacked, winboted up.
We now don't see much blizzard made maps in meele, they all Money Maps, and that really isn't the way starcraft was meant to be by Blizz.

If Staredit weren't available, Starcraft would've died out a long time ago.

Past Starcraft, Intense Ladder competition times when blizz gave prizes and stuff.
I remember when people would legitly get to 4000 rating, In those times I had 1700 and was ranked like 30 once.

Present Starcraft is basicly a mod. The UMS has use of way more things than in the beggining. We got a new terrain(square), new units and You can get up to 256 players and we got sprites. You can stack, cloack/uncloack everything get infinite food.

Melee dosen't get played as much as it used to, you don't see as much games and I can't seem to find Pro games anymore, The past games I have played in the score bar thing after game I almost always have the most points in Units, Resources and Structures. At least on every money map I play. You got that many resorces I say use them to their full potential not put a few peons to get maximun army.

To me we aren't playing Starcraft Anymore we are playing StarMod that is compatible with b.net.

A meaningfull 250th post!

I think it'll last until SC 2 comes out....some people will keep playing StarCraft but I'm pretty sure a whole lot of people will be playign SC2

Everyone who plays Sc1 will switch to Sc2 when/if it comes out.
Just like in Diablo1 -> Diablo II

The only restriciton will be computer speed and stuff.

StarCraft will last forever. Too many people are addicted to map-making.

It's like putting wood into a fire smile.gif
The more new people come, the longer Sc burns on.
I really dont think "Forever" though, I hate to say it but we will reach a limit in staredit sad.gif .

I'd give it 2 years max, people will get bored of it, look at Shadow, a year or two ago he was all like "Sc will never die, last forever!!!" and now hes lost interest

acually, come to think about it, i said the same thing ...

Either it dies a slow unpainful death.

Or blizzard disconects the plug on a couple of k's of users.

I'm not sure WILL starcraft die out or not, but if it dies out, it has to be much later. Starcraft contains much literature to be examined and more are yet to be found.
