That post gave me déjà vu of something... again! ohmy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-08-04 at 08:34:42
...is that a clue or something to solve? tongue.gif

by the way, I noticed if you open up starcraft's registry folder it has a bunch of opcodes, including ones called "speed" and "UnitPortraits"...
It sounds like something that could be usefull for firegraft
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-08-07 at 12:18:57
Kinda.

As for those...they are the options that you can set in the menu...speed is the gamespeed, portraits is if you have animated, still, or none...and so on. Since you can change most of those on you own...I don't see much reason for FG to have them...

ADDITION:
Okay, Yeah. So, as official action, a new clue is put up. It's tied into the old clues, but should make it much easier to find. Solve if you wish...

Is 256 the answer?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-08-07 at 12:46:19
Did you check, or are you just guessing?

Actually, I don't care if you checked or not...that's the correct answer. Sending 340 mins....

For a bonus 50 mins, what did '0400.041.05313' mean?(No time limit...)
As for my next question...I'll be putting it up sometime later.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dumbducky on 2006-08-07 at 12:49:09
A well thought guess.

Question #3

Okay, Question 3 was inspired by another post somewhere...but it's a crash/glitch search. Attached is a modded mpq. There are several(over 20) different crashes in the files. The rules for this question:

1. Each person answering may post 3 crashes/glitches each day.
2. Each crash or glitch will earn different amount of minerals based on how difficult I feel it is(remember, I used DatEdit).
3. Reporting a change that was not a crash/glitch will reduce the total pool of minerals. Don't do this, because I'll take out more than you want.
4. There is no time limit.
5. I will keep a list in this post of the crashes and glitches found, and how many aren't found yet.
6. If you have talked to me about these, don't find the easy ones. There are some that no-one knows about, so try to find those.

Currently, I know of 24 different crashes/glitches.
1. Vulture sight range above 11. Solved by TERRANFIGHTER. 25 Minerals.
2. Raynor(Vulture) has Resource miner checked. Solved by Killer_Kow(MM). 75 Minerals.
3. Infested Kerrigan's Shadow had an improper Iscript animation. Solved by Killer_Kow(MM). 75 minerals.

Good luck.

Wouldn't it be more fun to create a mod that has crashes and bugs everywhere,
you could give the users a list of where the crashes are, so they have to find and fix as many as they can in the time limit.

I think that would be more fun and useful for modders, that way we can teach them to spot their own mistakes and fix them.
how would they win?
The users would be judged on how many crashes they fix, how fast they fix them, and how little is unchanged.

Was that it?

ADD: Are people allowed to tell other people to post for them, as they can't themselves? (I won't do it since I know a lot of them, but I mean hypothetically and in general tongue.gif)

ADD: Ohh only Dat edits. I thought you were doing iscript too?

DoA>Am I right assuming this clue involves hexadecimal?

DoA, it would help if you told is which units you modded at least, since there's 227 unit entries... crazy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Killer_Kow(MM) on 2006-08-08 at 10:01:43
And the fact that it crashes as soon as I start the game tongue.gif So I can't really tell all the units that crash.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-08-08 at 10:05:01
Hey, this is the very 'challenge' here, right? Sneaked into DATs, hidden behind hex, burrowed under pointers...that's what I call research! biggrin.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TERRAINFIGHTER on 2006-08-08 at 10:28:14
Found the first one, it's the vultures sight range...do we really have to wait a whole day before we post the next one? pinch.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-08-08 at 10:32:21

Yeah, KK, that was it. I knew it was somewhere, just didn't know where.

If you really need to start 'prodding' other people in the right direction(I know we talked about almost all of these), that's ok. Just don't give them too much help.tongue.gif Oh, and I realized that I had enough before I even got to the Iscript ones. Also, there's quite a few that could be fixed by Iscript edits.

BK, that clue isn't in hex, sorry. But, you are on the right track. Remember, it was for the flingy.dat question, and now that the answer is up...

TF - Oh, and take all the fun out of it? To balance things out, I'll randomly give out ID's. Basically, I edited normal units, and a couple of buildings, so most shouldn't be too hard to find. You will have to play campaign missions to find everything though.

I would also suggest changing the crashes as they are revealed. That way, you can try to find the harder ones. Also, try to avoid using random, you might not know what crashes that way.

ADDITION:

Very good. I'll add 25 minerals for that, since DatEdit warns against sight ranges over 11 if the hints are on. I'll change the rules to 3 per day too.

Report, edit, etc...Posted by Killer_Kow(MM) on 2006-08-08 at 11:14:28
Jim Raynor has "resource miner" checked, and it crashes.

Infested Kerrigan's Shadow's iscript ID is set to 20 in place of 275.

Hmmm, this isn't dead is it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-08-17 at 13:01:27
Hmm...I think it's a bit too hard a challenge right now, and people who can pick out those crashers are working on things for the Modding Contest. I personally would like to check them out, but I don't have SC where I am now (and where I will be for the next couple weeks), so I can't test, and I am NOT such a nerd to check raw DATs for crashers tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Lord_Agamemnon(MM) on 2006-08-17 at 13:11:11
Yeah. I would check, but I'm busy with my mod, y'know.

BK: Why not? Try it tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-08-17 at 13:43:59
In the end.....what do I have to loose?

But I bet one of the crashers is setting some unit's portrait to a specific value? It can't be set to most of the talking portraits, because the unit's talking portrait is calculated by adding some number to the portrait set in units.dat and if this value exceeds the amount of entries in portraits.dat....in the bets case it freezes. Am I correct in assuming this, DoA?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-08-17 at 14:28:36
What unit? - Yes this crash does exist.

ADDITION: All the remaining crashes are on main units. No heroes, powerups, other stuff, just normal units.

ADDITION: If anyone catches me on MSN, I'll try to help out, just cuz.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BroodKiller on 2006-08-17 at 14:50:26
Couldn't be any easier - it's the Marine.

Another one I think is setting the Marine's construction animation to Terran Construction(Large).
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-08-17 at 15:04:20
Yep...I'm in a hurry, but the portrait is right.

However, the construction animation does not cause a crash(yeah, that's right)

I'll update and set aside minerals later today.

Also, anyone can answer as many as they can find in one day. I just would like them found.
