I fail to see how a "be mature" and a "don't swear" rule contradict eachother.

Really? It's quite simple. Swearing is a sign of immaturity.

So if someone steps on your foot and you say a naughty word, would that be immature? blink.gif

Yes since it shouldnt hurt enough to have to use such a word. Though that is a good example of what would be a "Proper" area to say such a word, I'm refering to when people use it in common language.

That means they compliment each other, not contradict each other. If you're acting immature by swearing, then you're not mature. If you're swearing which seems immature, you're still not deemed mature.

Total compliment there, not contridiction.

To Cloud's major credit, he does say "some rules" not "all rules" as you suggest. That would mean he thinks those rules he randomly chose are childish.

ON THE OTHER HAND, since he did say he chose randomly, that would mean he assumes any rule he chooses can be argued as being childish. The two he just happened to pick seemed childish to him, therefor any two he could have picked would be just as childish in his eyes.

But it could merely be a coincedence, which I don't doubt.

Cloud, I actually don't think this is all your fault. You had good intentions. As I said I swore like crazy when I was 10 and later learned that there was no need to. So I totally understand your point.

Even though we're off-topic this has proved to become a pretty interesting discussion about the rules so I don't think its too bad.

He is right about what? I never said anything about Schmidley in this topic. Did you mean to post that in the Patch topic or something?

I know a lot more than most people at SEN about Schmidley as a map maker, so no need to tell me that. happy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Desperado on 2006-08-02 at 23:58:16
Yep, DevliN and Shmidley (myself) are great pals. We know everything about eachother. In fact, it is this tight, unbreakable bond we share that let's him spell my name wrong in --every-- --single-- --post--.

This topic kind of turned into a discussion of the leniency of the moderators. There is an issue there. The moderators all have very different opinions of what is alright and what isn't. It is amazing what you can get away with, and it's very amazing what you can't get away with. Someone who posts completely inaccurate information repeatedly despite being warned about it is unlikely to be punished; but someone who does post correct information with an egotistical tone is. It's not just that the moderators are humans, flawed in all their glory, but the specific moderators we do have are.. chosen out of a hat, in a sense. A lot of people are only mods because the administration is so desperate to get anyone to moderate, because it's too much of a job to handle alone. It's really amazing the people you find in charge. This all goes back to the Dilbert theory of management, that management is nature's way of getting the idiots out of the system. No person with the qualities to be a good moderator would want the job, so you're stuck with what's left. People who post a lot. People who donate a lot of money. People who are too ignorant to properly judge the actions of others.

The moderators will pretty much agree with the following three things:
1) No spamming.
2) No soliciting hacks,unprotection,etc.
3) No personal attacks on other members. You can insult everything they do, everything they say, but don't say a word about them as a person. That's the key to constructive criticism.

Examples: Red is bad, green is good.

You suck.
Everything you do is horrible. This is the worst example of map making I have ever seen, I really can't understand why you would waste your time doing this. It's completely unprofessional. Please don't make maps anymore.

Go freak yourself.
Go fornicate yourself in the anus until you bring yourself to orgasm via prostate stimulation.

OSMAP GOGOGO!!!! (Before 1.14)
OSMAP GOGOGO!!!! (After 1.14)

(This one is my favorite.. it's ironic and so true)
this is good. lol i just want minerals
this is good. lol

Anything else... the moderators, and especially the administration are very quirky about. They subvert their own system but not utilizing the warn system. Instead they deduct minerals and posts. They are undermining themselves. A good moderator would be capable of putting on that cold, unemotional mask of judgement every once in a while, but you don't have that here. You have a few mods who never use the warn system, and you have a few people who are cold, unemotional husks, barely human at all, who use the warn system any chance they can get.

Excuse me for interrupting and going back on topic.

I couldn't figure this out at first... but then I saw him with 100% and I knew exactly what this was about. What appears to have happened was that the moderator pushing him to 100% didn't know exactly what to do, so put him on an "indefinite" suspension until I got to take a look at it. Therefore, he shall return at the end of his suspension (a normal time frame now).

Last, please stop thinking suspension = ban. Not true.

QUOTE(Cloud @ Aug 2 2006, 09:28 PM)
Also if I get warned for that god help me I just proved my point.

I'd personally beat any moderator over the head if they warned you for that.

SEN doesn't step on your foot. The whole idea of the internet is that you have virtually unlimited time to plan out what you say, and can correct it without anyone knowing before it is said.

"Incite to flame"? That's extremely excessive and unecessary. That would definitely fit under flaming.

Has not changed. Supplying unprotection violates the rules, no excuses.

As for the censor debate... think about this. All censors and swearing restrictions are removed - what would happen?. We have here a website of thousands of users. The swearing would definitely get gratutious, unecessarily used, and way out of control. In the end it just isn't worth it. If this was my own personal community of 50 people, I'd say go ahead and swear like mad... because they would swear "responsibly". It simply wouldn't work in a website this large and this young.

The reason I mentioned that fact was that -bilal92- is still posting inaccurate information despite having recieved repeated verbal warnings not to post if he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Interesting you should say that. I was wondering just who all the Global Mods are, so I went and looked. I said to myself "Who the Hell is CaptainWill?!"

I exagerated. It's important to be a little more constructive than that.

That one shouldn't get by but it does, because insults that are unanimously humorous.. people manage to get away with those.

Since 1.14 everyone has been talking about how useful OSMAP is now so that you can fix the maps that are unplayable. If you'd like I could report them all.. but.. you know, it's a lot of people.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2006-08-03 at 01:15:45
Not my fault if you don't post in any forums that CaptainWill does.

Nowhere does it say that you can't support OSMAP or unprotection. That doesn't mean posting up OSMAP or a link to it is allowed. "OSMAP GOGOGO" would certainly be allowed. "[link to OSMAP]" would never be allowed.

Well then, Desperado. It would simply be smashing if I saw reported posts whenever this absense of moderation occurs. You don't expect the police to show up if you don't call them, do you?

Oh I called. I called everybody. It was as frustrating as it is possible to get. I think you have some pretty clear evidence of that. I shouldn't let myself get so wrapped up in this Internet drama, but as it says by my avatar, I have "nothing else better to do." My quest to teach people the facts was too much. I was corrupted by it. Just like a young, idealistic New York cop.. who in time, becomes a dirty cop. Some day I won't care any more. Some day I will stop trying to make the world a better place.. in whatever small way that happens to be. That won't be for a while though.

You know I never really talked to you about what happened that day. We should.

Well excuse me. I still know you as the one and only Salacious, but you decided to go with Shmidley after all that was said and done. My mistake. Wont happen again.

But the point still stands, name's spelling aside. Most people have no clue who Salacious(U) was anymore, so you'll end up having dumb posts like the one saying you know jack about SEN and map making.
