Guardians... for buildings at least, great to back up a group of hydras... great to take out a group of hydras.

Im gonna divide these into two classes: the Behemoths, and Everything Else.

Behemoths:
Well, theres actually only two capital ships, the BC and the Carrier. In terms of power, BCs and its yamato guns can pack a very good punch. But if you factor in micro, Carriers will come out the winner.

Everything Else:
Although too expensive to use in the long run, Scouts can be very powerful in numbers. Versatile with great Air-to-Air damage and fast mobility makes hit and runs very fun.

Remember, we're talking offensive-wise, so Devourers could be paired with most any air units, but most effective with Mutalisks for its mutiple hits.

I say bc is, in my opinion, the best air offensiv unit. It strong and has good attack, and with the yomato gun..

But i voted for devourer becasue i know no one voted for it and i was right! Devourer has one vote now. smile.gif

BC's I like they ain't even that good but the dude in the ship is cool smile.gif. Also JetBlast corsairs rip apart mutas, ovies, scourges, guardians. Pretty much any zerg air.

Yeah the guy in the Bc is cool.

Bc's are the strongest even though wraiths can cloak.

if you really think about it..wraith might b really good air unit it can cloak and its fast deals a lot of damage doesent cost much and a pack of 3-4 can take a bc or carrier out w/e even being damaged pokey.gif

Let's look at the facts...
Why are you even comparing heavy capital ships to light fighters?
Oh yeah, when it comes to air, zerg are creamed.
We won't even consider them due to their sucky fleets.

Good Protoss Anti-Air Units
-High Templar (Psi Storm owns large groups of anything) 4-8
-Dark Archon (Feedback, Mind Control)
-Groups of a dozen or so Archons against large air groups (Heavy Damage)
-Groups of dragoons against smaller groups (Medium Damage)

Main Protoss Fleet
-Carrier: Useful against defense, but weak against ships
-No attack upgrades to fully upgraded enemies = little damage
-Max damage against battlecruiser is 6 (Upped is only 3)
-Interceptors can be destroyed easily, rebuilding takes time
-Scout: Useful against all air units, except for scourge
-Fleets of scouts can overwhelm ground defenses
-Gets shot down like flies against mass battlecruisers
-Little bang for the buck (aka very costly)
-Corsair: D-Web only pro about this
-Arbiter: Cloak mass units
-Free Cloaking
-Recall isn't that useful in games
-Stasis is very useful to take down big parts of enemy forces

Tactics:
-Against Terran go all on out against a light group of battlecruisers
-Against larger groups (8+) use whatever available
-Stasis
-Mind Control
-Psi Storm
-Feedback
-Then Attack
-Then Attack, your ambush will effectively render their fleet at about 35-60%
efficiency
-Against Zerg Psi Storm, Take out Guardians with Scouts, Defend Carriers
-Corsairs can help defend against waves of scourge, which are too fast for
carriers to target effectively
-Main Pro is the Special Abilities

Good Terran Anti-Air Units
-Goliath (Huge Range, Very Generous Damage)
-Science Vessel (Take away Protoss Shields in a snap)
-Marines can screw endless waves of Mutas
-Medics can help blind guardians from a distance

Main Terran Fleet
-Battlecruiser: Effective against any and all opposition
-Watch for Psi Storm
-Use Yamato Cannon to kill heavier units quickly
-Large Groups can overwhelm any opposition
-Fires quickly with good damage
-Zerg simply cannot touch large groups
-Wraith: Effective against Carriers and Guardians
-Fast and damaging to enemy heavy air
-Weak against ground
-Valkyrie: In groups, effective against light enemy air
-Very weak against heavy air

Tactics:
-Against Zerg, unleash the full fury of your fleets of battlecruisers
-Against Protoss, use Sci Vessels to eliminate their shields
-Micromanage your fighters, but in general allow your bc's to go wild
-Target arbiters then carriers with your wraiths, then allow them to go against
scouts
-Goliaths are rather effective against carriers, not so much against scouts
-Terrans are the most versatile players airwise in the entire game. They can
have nicely balanced airforces, or they can just go with heavy battlecruisers
-Protoss and Zerg need a blend of everything to make their air forces work

These are some of the tactics I picked up, feel free to comment with your own!

what do you mean recall aint useful? you MUST be crazy.. without recall i would so be screwed in melee
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2004-08-10 at 11:45:37
silly money map player. recalls are rarely used in real melee games but their effects are devestating. pinch.gif

I don't see much use using recall. Here is where my LotR training kicked in: we use recalls more for warping heroes OUT of enemy encampments. Sorry, the theories do get mixed up from time to time. In melee, it's different. Somewhat. Recall an army into your enemy's base! Laugh as he scrambles troops, unsuccessfully of course : ) By the way Terran Air Units > Protoss Air Units, but Protoss Air Battles > Terran Air Battles (assuming toss is pro of course)

Thats not true, its very useful in Polaris Prime, I even won a few times by massing goons 3-3-3 upgrades and then send 2-3 arbiters to recall them all.

The best anti air unit has to be a fleet of valks.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2004-08-10 at 12:03:22
Wrong. Valks do what... 5+1(x3) damage? That is max damage of 8. Take in the fully upgraded battlecruiser armor of 6 and um... wow 2 damage!
And there's what... 500 hp to the battlecruiser? And battlecruisers do like 25+3(x3) damage, for 34 damage. That's a lot. I'd take 2 dozen battlecruisers to 20 dozen valkyries any freaking day of the week.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2004-08-10 at 12:27:37
24 battlecruisers can't beat 240 vaulks! huh.gif besides, corsairs own both so blah.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2004-08-10 at 14:29:15
24 battle cruisers can rape any amount of valkyries. Valks would get shot down before they got a chance to unload their full payloads. Here, I can make a map though, to see which wins. I'll post it in about 15 minutes.

-Fully upgrade Valkyries and Battlecruisers going against each other
-2 computer players, enemies
-Victory if bc's win : )
-Defeat if valkyries win : (

Darn! You were right... 1 bc can take on about 3.5 valkyries though... In huge groups of like 24 or more the valkyrie's splash like becomes super deadly... Meaning that in a group of 12 bc's, 24 splash = alot of dmg

Valkyries are damn fine anti-air!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2004-08-10 at 14:38:27
of course i'm right splash damage owns anything keke tongue.gif

The big fat slow firing Devourers, a mass of them will kill any air plue their spores slow down the attacks of other units! GO DEVOURERS biggrin.gif
