Terrans eat low quality rations.
They extract pure nutrients from the dirt, plant life, and water from the planets they visit, combine it with concentrated vespene liquids, apply extreme heat and minerals until they're solid blocks, finally applying highly addictive chemicals to the rations so that they get hooked to the rations regardless of taste.
