Yes, but does Blizzard really seem to care about 3rd party editors?  They've certainly never tried to press legal action against sites that carry these programs.  They have, however, pressed action against numerous sites that host "hacks", in an effort to shut them down.  So once again, my point stands.

Back in 1999 or 2000 they offically supported 3rd party editors. They even had ads on their site to Camelot Systems, which was the site where all the 3rd party map/mod making editors were hosted, but I don't think they offically support them anymore.

Thank you, StealthyDeath. Now all you pro-"hacks" people will have to find a new lame argument to support your cause.

Saying that hacks can "spice up a boring game" is kind of a bad arguement, beacause at the same time your "spicing down" someone elses game who still enjoys starcraft without hacks.

Also, hacking destroys the perfectly balanced game which blizzard strived so hard, and patched so much to achieve.

You got real Hackers, and then you got Script Kiddies, which are the ones we see on battle.net, using the programs that other people made. I ban the people with chat colors changed, or had their username colored or spaced or blanked out; any blantant signs of a hack prog.

And anti-hack hacks dont exist, and quite ironic nonetheless, to use a hack to counter a hack, since an anti-hack is still a hack.

Stance: Hate em; glad I have real people to play games with.

The difference is, I've never heard of Blizzard threatening legal action for hosting Third Party Editors.

You cant; first off, these hacks arent doing any damage in terms of hurting sales, damaging codes, sending malicious virii through bnet, etc. and second, there are a lot of sites that hosts these files; too many to bother with since itll just be a waste of time and money.

They have, though. A number of sites have had legal action threatened, and eventually been shut down for hosting D2 and SC hacks. Blizzard has thrown around it's legal power a few times to pressure ISPs into stopping these sites.

Alright, I didn't read many posts here, but...
I must say, using hacks that are meant to deteriorate gameplay like a torch melts butter can be good.
Like
Person: I'm bored
Person Friend: I'm bored too
Person: Hmm let's play a game where we can see each other!
Person Friend: Ya, that sounds good!

Nothing wrong with that, right?

But that's the only allowance I can make for such programs.

Oh...my....god ok listen:

Hacker-

And

Cracker-

Those 2 kind of people are different:

1-The Hacker: He hack, cheat.. nothing really mad (he don't ban, steal account, spam, steal map...) He generally cheating on games. Nothing really bad!

2-The Cracker: This man do all the bad thing! Creating viruses, hack account, Ban cd-key, drop people, Go through anti-virus, making trojan, spy, spam, steal, steal money, use your computer against you...

That is the difference between the 2 different world! Hacking is not "that" bad...

Hacking any way is wrong whats the point of even having the game.

this game is simple and fun, and whats the point of hacking, cause you dont get your skill built up to hold your own in multiplayer battle. Cause your always dependent on Cheats, and Hacks to win. nono.gif

So then you never get that fun thing out of Starcraft, I know I'm going through the missions again to see if I can beat it without cheats. biggrin.gif

Oh If anyone wants to try a map I submited to the downloads section it's called

(8) Backwater Station.scm in Melee/ Melee style. (I'm still waiting for a email from the guy). cool1.gif

Lag defender is NOT a good hack, the lag window appears for all the other players while the lag defender can still move his units and type in messages and bla.

I usually don't care when people cheat, in any game. And the thing about people who use cheats using them because they aren't good at a game, isn't entirely true, when I play unreal tournament sometimes I cheat. I play without cheats more than I play with them, though and I'm pretty good at it.

I dont know it depends on the hack I guess. Like that color hack and the name spoofing, I guess thats not bad. But now.. Its time for.. LOSER MATH 101!!!! YAY!! Class quiet.. Study this equation.

Map hacking = cheating
Cheating = bad

YAY!! TEST ON MONDAY!! BE READY!!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by StealthyDeath on 2004-08-11 at 06:06:30
If someone was name spoofing in the game it causes you to disconnect after the game, which = bad too.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Lo[S]eR on 2004-08-11 at 15:11:59
My friend spoofs and he gets dropped before the game ends so I never knew that.
